My grandfather had to leave all his money to Castro before he left. My grandmother did the same with jewlery and money. The truth about this is that both systems should work with each other.. One is not better than the other. To have a "self made man" just brings more greed, and one's forgetting the basics of life. MORALITY. On the other hand, you have good moral principles but very little room for evolution. One has to be inspired for change and the other has to fuel the idea by leading its people for a better future. Greed is what we see in democracy and drive is missing in Communism. Both need each other.
The difference is that capitalism has the room to grow and evolve in the past couple of years to add social programs to help those who feel its ill effects. If Communism begins to do so (ie. add market reforms, allow tourism, allow for private property) it delegitimizes the system,which is what is occuring now in places like China, Vietnam, and maybe even in Cuba.

Concentration camps has nothing to do with the Revolution. It's not even similar. The Revolution has its warts, and having a sworn enemy right above you that makes development difficult doesn't help. Pre-Revolution Cuba was great for a few, but for the general masses it wasn't. Pre, A third of Cubans were illiterate; today Cuba boasts a 99.8% rate, second highest in the world. I talk to Cubans living here in NY. They say life is hard and don't love Fidel but admire what the Revolution has done.

Can I tell you something, homes, I just got back from Cuba and everything I've ever been told about Cuba, especially that which comes from Miami, is a lie. Cubans can travel. Culture is heavily promoted. Most of all, although people may not have BMWs or flat screens, Cubanos have a lot of national pride, something that Americans don't understand. Cubans in Cuba, not the arrogant ones in Florida, have a lot of warmth and love for man. What does solidarity mean?

Politicians at the lower levels in Cuba aren't career politicians. After the 2000 debacle, I don't think the US can engage in the "our system is better" debate for a long time.
1)2) So, who owns Cuba? There is no doubt that now more than ever, Cuba has become the personal possession of the Castro clan. During the past few yrs family members of both Fidel & Raul Castro have come to occupy important positions in Cuba's government. This Castro clan represents in addition to the military, the security apparatus & the Communist Party, a significant force in Cuba's political & economic structures.
2) Imagine that after 50 yrs, the families of Fidel & Raul Castro are occupying important positions in the Cuban regime.
The logic seems to go something like this: Rewarding & Enriching the KGB-trained & heavily armed guardians of Cuba's Stalinist status-quo; first-hand experience under Cuba's Stalinist regime.
Oh, and for the record, the U.S. is currently Cuba's number one food supplier and 4th biggest trading partner, while Cuba trades with every nation on earth.
This is not true, homes. While I wouldn't call one-way dealing "trade," Cuba does prepay for some food from the US. But Cuba trading with other countries is limited. Wikipedia the Helms-Burton Act and the Torricelli Act. The US has been trying to choke out the Revolution and it can't!
Communism has violated the basic tenets of civilization. It teaches & seeks 2 objectives: unrelenting class warfare & complete eradication of all private ownership. Thus, every means possible are employed on its people, even the most violent. And, this even means one's own individualistic religion or free speech. Its destruction is ferocious in its cruelty, inhumane. It has laid waste to vast regions! A complete slaughter of its own people is what communism has brought around the world.
I know you're angry but your facts are severely skewed. First off, class warfare is the major tenet of CAPITALISM! Most Cubans own their homes. Now, capitalism has wreaked major havoc in the world. Look at the mess Latin America is in; Cuba is in better shape than most of those countries. US puppet governments were put in place in Central America and there's a huge disparity in wealth. Dude, look at the US. Go to Liberty City, then go to Coral Gables. How many blacks are in Coral Gables?
1) The people who live In Coral Gables-Miami are individuals who have worked hard for their money & deserve the best; they don't depend on the state & big governemnt for handouts.
2) Consequently, Liberty City is a place where people do not strive to reach their fullest potential. No they rely on big government to give them crumbs. Democrats push the welfare state; look at what liberal policy has done to the black family. The problem is that socialism robs individuals of their own identity, their own ambition, their own desires, and their own passions & it robs them of their dreams because it doesn't allow any of that. By the way, Detroit is a leftist-liberal run city!!
Are Detroit and the rust belt cities decaying because of liberalism or because of capitalism; the corporations that were there but left those cities for cheaper labor in Mexico and abroad? Why are all the people in Liberty City one color and Coral Gables a different color? Are blacks inherently lazier?
If by conservative government you mean belief in free markets, limited government & traditional morality & religion, then these are all things that the communists oppose or as "Liberal Fascists" do today. The Left does not allow for individual achievement. That's a problem! If you outpace somebody else, out-earn somebody else, you then have to be punished for that, the left punishes anyone for their productivity.
I don't have a problem with earning more if you produce more. As a matter of fact, I visited tobacco factories and book factories in Cuba, and if the workers produce more, they earn more as well. For argument's sake, if I own a book store and I make a lot of money off it, the community has supported me. Therefore, I owe it to reinvest in the community, not only concern myself with profit. You see what I mean?
Aren't the only books allowed in the "Tropical Gulag" are books on Che, communism & Socialism. How about the individual right of the Cuban citizen, wanting to read something intellectually stimulating without having to be punished or indoctrinated by the CDR? Ask yourself: How many books on capitalism can you sell or get in Cuba? You won't find any books on laissez-faire capitalism in Cuba, it's illegal. Talk about having free choose in the matter.
The Cuban government maintains a media monopoly on the island, ensuring that freedom of expression is virtually nonexistent. Although a small number of independent journalists manage to write articles for foreign websites or publish underground newsletters, the risks associated w/ these activities are considerable. Anyone caught surfing the Net, gets 5 yrs in Jail. Imagine this place, where there are only 3 State run TV channels for viewing & only 3 National government controlled news papers.
Can I ask you something, homes, are you of Cuban descent? I'm Puerto Rican but I felt so much pride being in Cuba and the fact that for 200 years Cuba refuses to be a US colony, and insists on its independence. You should be proud of that. That's what pisses the US off. I wish PR would be free from imperialism. Journalists are not killed in Cuba as in other places. Cubans have internet access. I don't know where you got that whopper from. Miami I presume. I email my Cuban friends often.

My grandfather had to leave all his money to Castro before he left. My grandmother did the same with jewlery and money. It is the embargo and the enforcement of those U.S laws that prevent Cuba from receiving imports, including imports of U.S American tourists. We can't go there because we will get punished. The truth about this is that both systems should work with each other.. One is not better than the other. To have a "self made man" just brings more greed, and one's forgetting the basics of life. MORALITY. On the other hand, you have good moral principles but very little room for evolution. One has to be inspired for change and the other has to fuel the idea by leading its people for a better future. Greed is what we see in democracy and drive is missing in Communism. Both need each other.

The difference is that capitalism has the room to grow and evolve in the past couple of years to add social programs to help those who feel its ill effects. If Communism begins to do so (ie. add market reforms, allow tourism, allow for private property) it delegitimizes the system,which is what is occuring now in places like China, Vietnam, and maybe even in Cuba.

In contrary to your allagations, democratic regimes are no different. The trouble with humans is that we are still in our evolutionary process. No system is better then the other. Both have its faults. Both comitt crimes and unjustices.. I favor Socialism for various reasons, but I also see the good things about Democracy. Concentration camps has nothing to do with the Revolution. It's not even similar. The Revolution has its warts, and having a sworn enemy right above you that makes development difficult doesn't help. Pre-Revolution Cuba was great for a few, but for the general masses it wasn't. Pre, A third of Cubans were illiterate; today Cuba boasts a 99.8% rate, second highest in the world. I talk to Cubans living here in NY. They say life is hard and don't love Fidel but admire what the Revolution has done.

Try this, study the rest of Latin America, check out the Dominican Republic, go to Guatemala, and then go to Cuba. Then you'll actually appreciate what the Revolution has done. Can I tell you something, homes, I just got back from Cuba and everything I've ever been told about Cuba, especially that which comes from Miami, is a lie. Cubans can travel. Culture is heavily promoted. Most of all, although people may not have BMWs or flat screens, Cubanos have a lot of national pride, something that Americans don't understand. Cubans in Cuba, not the arrogant ones in Florida, have a lot of warmth and love for man. What does solidarity mean?

I don't have a problem with earning more if you produce more. As a matter of fact, I visited tobacco factories and book factories in Cuba, and if the workers produce more, they earn more as well. For argument's sake, if I own a book store and I make a lot of money off it, the community has supported me. Therefore, I owe it to reinvest in the community, not only concern myself with profit. Can I ask you something, homes, are you of Cuban descent? I'm Puerto Rican but I felt so much pride being in Cuba and the fact that for 200 years Cuba refuses to be a US colony, and insists on its independence. You should be proud of that. That's what pisses the US off. I wish PR would be free from imperialism. Journalists are not killed in Cuba as in other places. Cubans have internet access. I don't know where you got that whopper from. Miami I presume. I email my Cuban friends often.

Capitalism needs racism and sexism; competition and division in general. I'm not an economics major or poli/sci. All I can tell you is what I saw: I saw blacks and whites in Cuba rally together under the Cuban flag, proud to be Cuban. You will not see that in the US, not even after 9/11.

Please, educate yourself: The Big Lie of the late 20th century was that Nazism was Rightist. It was in fact typical of the Leftism of its day. It was only to the Right of Stalin's Communism. The very word "Nazi" is a German abbreviation for "National Socialist" (Nationalsozialist) and the full name of Hitler's political party (translated) was "The National Socialist German Workers' Party"

You might want to recheck your facts. Socialists and any "left of center" political prisoners were in Nazi camps along with Catholics and religious clergy, and homosexuals and of course, Jews. Communists were considered undesirables and were persecuted as well.

2)It is virtually impossible for Cubans to travel abroad; it's illegal, unless you are so old that you are worthless to the socialist cause. Consequently, it took my grandmother 26 yrs for her to leave & see her son, my father!

I never knew what solidarity meant until I went to Cuba. While we export war, Cuba exports doctors and teachers. Why did the Cuban government respond faster to Hurricane Katrina than the US government? That is fucking solidarity for the people, homes.

My brother, everything I'm telling you can be verified. Just check your bible, homes. I'm telling what I've read. Early on in the Revolution, members of the Catholic church couldn't join the Communist party. That had more to do with a refusal to join the military. The government has since rectified that. Religion is strong there, brother.

First off, what is this mess? Look around Latin America or even middle America. I've spent a lot of time in Detroit, brother, and I tell you Havana is in better shape than Detroit. Cuba is in better shape than most Latin American countries than allowed themselves to be whores of the US. There's a lot of propaganda here, homes.

Lastly, my brother, I don't know the rules. I know my Cuban friends have traveled abroad, though there are restrictions. Now, Cuba has been in a state of war for 50 years. Look at the restrictions in place here in the past 8 years caused by a fragmented group. Imagine if Al Qaeda were the most powerful nation in the world and has actually tried to invade and overthrow the govt. Would we still have the same rights we do today? So there are restrictions, but please see the big picture.

Still more of the same: In Cuba, people can't decide where they wish to travel, work or live, how they want to spend their skimpy earnings, what they choose to read(yup, free education) or what ideas seem to them luminous or not smart. In Cuba, the government has decided everything. You are only a subject there, not an individual, because it's dangerous to dare to foresee a future different from the one predicted by the mandarins of the cult. As always, the future in Cuba looks grim & dark.

1) For 50 yrs it's been hell for the proletariat! Cuba is one of the worst violators of ALL human rights including in the area of labor. Workers constantly suffer the poorest working conditions, have no right to organize in labor unions, which are banned; workers live under constant surveillance, threats & intimidations of being "transferred" or sent to "rehabilitation" & "reeducation" camps if deemed to be "lazy," a capitalist, selfish, indulgent or doesn't express revolutionary enthusiasm.

I take pity in you, in helping the most repressive & longest lasting dictatorship in the Western Hemisphere. You talk much of free education in Cuba, yet as it ever occurred that Cuban's can't intellectualize thought in Castro's Cuba, read or find any books on Libertarian thought, economic-free markets, on human rights, or let alone read Alan Greenspan's autobiography, like dear commandante read & showed us on TV about a year or 2 ago!
