  • This is not learning Thai but learning how Thai pronounce foreign words.

  • @taubangkok yes it is, but these words are taken over by the Thai, its true they pronounce it diffrent, but that's because of the way they write.

  • Now I know why...some times ago we took the taxi in bkk, wants to go to Oriental Hotel. Its took few mniutes b4 the taxi driver knows where really we wants to go. After several times "Oriental Hotel or Hotel Oriental". Thanks God he got it at last and he says "misterrrr not Oriental Hotel. Its Orienten Hoten".

  • Are tones marked in writing when it comes to Thai? Because I know that other tonal languages such as Mandarin and Cantonese aren't marked.

  • Sometimes Yes, sometimes No. Some tones are inherent in the consonant, other times there may be one of 4 different tone markings. It's rather complicated and requires memorizing the class (High, Mid, or Low) of the consonants. Check the web for more detail on the tones if you're interested in mastering them.

  • Ok, thank you =D! I think I'll go take a look. Tones are just so hard for me @x@;;
