  • Got this on 8-track! Yea baby! (and that was in an Austin Powers accent) lol

  • Mel Taylor...RIP... was indeed a giant!!! been a big fan of his drumming ever since i can remember. his intro to this song..timeless! his stlye of playing...i'm still in awe.

  • This is the BEST version I have ever heard!!!

  • LYRICS:

    Tenetetent ten teten... Tenetetent ten...

    Tenetetent ten teten... Tenetetent ten...

    Ten tentententenenten. Ten tetenentenentetent ten.

    Tenetetent ten...

  • I could stare at the album cover for a long time

  • Several folks have a few crossed wires here. The Ventures terrific version was a huge hit but was not heard on the TV show! That version featured the greats of the L.A. studio session scene, including the late Tommy Tedesco. So, if this is the Ventures version above, Tommy Tedesco is not playing on it!

  • Hang on. This going to be a ride to remember. More please. Thanks

  • U.S. Notable Hits of 1969

  • these are the ventures

  • Absolutely beautiful post! There's only one VENTURES and only one MCGARRETT! Thanks for THIS!!!

  • I love this song!!!!! Now this was and is music!!!! :p

  • de tirar o folego the best .......

  • This sounded FANTASTIC on my pc with the three speakers blasting! I listened to it three times!

  • That's why I have the big office, Dan O.

  • What an album cover, tribute to the greatest TV and show theme music....ever.

  • poooooooota vida!! q coisa mais linda!

  • Both David Caruso and Jack Lord are awesome. Each a tough man in their era.

  • Absolutely the best!!!

  • repetitive but damn, I love that bass line (:

  • the original is way better than the remake!

  • Mel Taylor on drums, A underappreciated giant.

  • @consanna I agree totally. I've hard him when we has cut loose, and he is a monster. He also keep's a perfect beat an grooves like a motherfucker. He and Ringo share the title of underated drummer's.

  • ORIGINAL!!! Praise thee for flowering!!!

  • top shelf. great album cover too. so much more style than little modern CD wraps

  • the guys and gals who do the new theme are part of the original orchestra who played on the original show.

  • We play this song in middle school and it's real hard to play by the way i play the trumpet

  • The Ventures cannot be beat...that said the new one definitely does NOT suck dude.

The Hawaii 5-0 producers hired a super talented grop of people to re-create it.

Respect at a the highest level is doing the original justice.

    Uncle Dave

  • @natbienvenue310 Yet the Ventures song is not the original. The song was composed by Morton Stevens and performed by the CBS orchestra. The Ventures merely covered it....but did it well. Wikipedia has it wrong. Just giving credit where credit is due.

  • @TheKrammerhead

    Right !

  • Love the new Hawaii 50 show.........

  • @nompls42 Me TOO!!!!!!

  • The Ventures playing this song are amazing. The original 5.0 is the one and only. The new one sucks...and I haven't even seen it. But I'm still right. Ha!

  • @StevenCarinci Nothing compares with the original, that makes two of us.

  • ... the Ventures took a great theme song and added depth that couldn't be done for an intro to a TV show and what an excellent job they did... book me if I'm wrong.. My name is Danny Carroll..-:)

  • ... the Ventures to a great thems song and added depth that couldn't be done for an intro to a TV show and what an excellent job they did... book me if I'm wrong.. My name is Danny Carroll..-:)

  • that theme songs brings me a wonderful thrill every time I hear it....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (big smiles.)

  • I have Jack Lord's autograph! Such a gentleman. He let me use his coat to keep warm while he signed my book. Jack Lord is my hero and Icon!

  • Kam Fong as Chin Ho,and Meyer Lansky as Duke:The smooth hawaiian eye that so tuff that the do and glare couldn't faze, the one cat on the show,Steve DID NOT FUCK WITH!!!

  • Zulu as Kono!

  • Damn amazing theme - nothing comes close to this. God Bless Jack Lord

  • Is this the version that they used in the TV show? The Ventures are pretty much drowned out by the orchestra!

  • @Strawberry7Lynn Actually the version played during the TV credits was mainly done just by a horn section. The Ventures' version had the electric guitar playing in front of the horns.

  • HAWAII FIVE-0 BACK IN 1968-1980 IC BETTER THAN THE 2010 VERSION

  • OMG I didn't know there was an original?

  • @Tampa0123456789 yeah it is way better than the original in my opinian

  • Comment removed

  • Lol this song is so awsome

  • The wholer version is 3:23 seconds long, and can be found here. It's the one with almost a million views. This one is the shorter, better for TV opening credits, version.

  • I have to play this on my trumpet.

  • I used to love watching the show & it's was a blast to play this song in high school marching & pep band. (Has it really been 30 years?) Ahh the memories...

  • I bought this L.P brand new at the record shop in 1969. It's still in my collection in mint condition. I quickly dubbed it to 8-track then, so i could play it in the high school hot rod. Wore the 8-track out and then dubbed it to the then new cassette a coupla years later. Thats the ONLY reason that record look's brand new today. LOL This is a great classic song, thanks for posting:):):):) Hope they don't butcher the new theme song for the new 5-0 starting this fall!!!!

  • @welder541 Are you kiddin' me?! I remember ordering this from the old "Columbia Record Club" in '69!! You know, the one that said, "Get 12 Albums for 1 cent"!!!! I got a "free" AM Radio with it, too!!(lol)

  • @DJKhrome Good old Columbia Record Club. Now that's a name i have'nt heard or read in a month of Sundays. I remember those offers WELL!!! My brother and i, at that point in time had invested together in a NEW best you could buy for the common man 8-Track Recorder from the Shack. It worked great:):):) My, how things have changed. 12 L.P.'s for one penny. Who'd believe it today!!!! LOL and a transister to boot.

  • omg i used to have the LP with that jacket. I think it was the second one I owned. I remember all those songs. Hawaii Five-O is good but it wasn't the Ventures best

  • Cool tune! It takes me back to my childhood when I used to watch H 50. Aah, those were the carefree days of cop shows and bad gun stunts and big hair dos!

  • This is absolutely the best version of this theme. The others lack the subltety and nuances.

  • I know i will never afford to move or live there but if girls like that was there and i did have the money what more would A person need to inspire them to move WOW What A little sweetheart Gorgeous girl. And the best song to go with her.

  • New 5-0, I don't think so, but I'll watch and most likely hope to see a large black Lincoln with suicide doors run down the new actors and have a clone of Jack Lord get out and take over. The old 5 O used to be on a 4:00 AM on a small town UHF station here in Arizona. Some days it was the best show on for the whole day. This is the most kickin cover of this song ever. Narrow ties, land yachts by Ford, bad guys with guns and Jack Lord. Gotta love it! The Ventures rule 60s instrumental rock/pop!

  • Book him, Dan-o

  • I must say I enjoyed the theme song as much (if not more, sorry) than the episode itself. One the first TV show I saw in in color.

  • My dad had this album. I'm sure my brother took it and has it now. We wore this damn record out.

  • Sounds good!!

  • un vrai classic

  • This September (2010), there will be a new and updated evrsion of "Five-O" on CBS, and I suspect the producers of the new show will get a technorock band to record an updated version of this theme for the new series.

It might be great song, and could be a big hit, but probably won't be as good as this version.

  • @altfactor I doubt ANYTHING about the new version of the show will be as goo as this one.

  • @hippofat10 it won't. the audiences from the original's era and our's are totally different. What happened back then may not appeal to the people of our day and age and the writers know that. Therefore, they will destroy the original concept.

  • Hell yes this takes me back to my youth when I might be running through our home paying no attention to the TV set and hear this tune and stop dead in my tracks until the theme was over. Yes I liked the show too but the theme was stunning while seeing those Hawaiian scenes and those beautiful Hawaiian girls IN COLOR no less.

  • theres a lot of good songs on that album

  • I knew the studio guitarist that played on this song. His name was Tommy Tedesco. He is a awesome guitarist.

  • book em danno!

  • Show time!! Book 'em Danno! Great stuff!

  • Wicked drum riffs in this tune.

  • Wondfull!!

  • THE VENTURES ROCK!!

  • one of the rare shows that aired in three decades 1968 - 1980. very few able to do so. Gunsmoke 1955-75, Bonanza 1959- 1973, HAWAII 5-01968-80, 60 MINUTES WHICH HAS AIRED FROM 1968-PRESENT, Dallas 1978-1991, Knots Landing 1979-1993.

  • 60 Minutes is only a month away from airing in SIX decades:

    1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, 2010s!

  • yes I know. that is why I put "PRESENT"

  • "Book him Dan-o!"

  • the greatest of all time

  • that is their biggest selling album of all time hawaii 5.0

  • Flute (real or synthesized) starting at :40, followed by horns in the reprise are absolutely sublime.

  • Yes it's wonderful !!!! I love it!!!

  • This is my favorite TV show theme song of all time! Thanks for uploading!

  • wonderful!!!

  • OMG i was 5 and my father had all the venture records. got in trouble for looking at the hot girl on cover. Man im old

  • We had this record at home ,,,

  • My cell phone ringtone!!!

  • Best theme song ever. Best instrumental ever. One of the best songs in general. The opening sequence for Hawaii Five-O is up there, too.

  • @glutubular Absolutely! Better then Green Onions in my view.

  • my fave version too.

  • well of course he would be white haired..he's aged about 40 years.

  • Jack Lord passed away a few years ago.

He was very camera shy in his final years, I saw a pic of him and he was completely white haired!

  • man i miss the 60s. when i was in the 4 th grade , 5 o came out that year. i love this version. and what guest stars they had on. these shows today can not even come close to the 60s shows. i rest my case. if you agree with me -honk-.

  • I think Chin is still alive

  • Kam Fong (Chin Ho Kelly) died on October 18, 2002.

Jim MacArthur (Danny Williams) is still alive as of Sept. 22, 2009. He looks really old at age 71, though.

Al Harrington (Ben Kokua) is still alive.

  • Are those flutes in the beginning?

  • does anybody kn know if jack lord or any other star of five'0 is still alve?

  • See my response to allenrhess - Jim MacArthur and Al Harrington are still alive.

  • Ah YEAH, THIS is the best version!!!!!

  • it is,

  • @SecretAgentSlothman

    watch?v=2LnK8b_jk8w

    That one is better...

  • @SecretAgentSlothman My dad had this Ventures 8-Track when i was a kid. Freakin great!

  • @SecretAgentSlothman it IS the best version - but which one is it? It's not the Ventures - the drums are totally different than any version I'm finding at itunes or amazon - and I MUST HAVE THIS VERSION!!!! My inner 70's child thinks this is the one used on TV

  • @twodogsnl Nope they recorded this AFTER the show was already on the air. They did not do the show's theme.

  • @SecretAgentSlothman

Just went to another site with the Ventures Hawaii 50 and just passing on the the same comment here.

6 DUMB ASSES DIDN'T LIKE THIS, WHAT IS WRONG WITH THEM.

  • Great, always loved this show and the theme song. Reminds me of the 70's when I was a kid

  • There were a few different versions of this intro used during Hawaii 5-0, However this version is my favorite and sounds the best!!!

  • Mel Taylor need I say more.

  • Book 'em Dan O!!! This still kicks ass!!!

  • I lived in Hawaii

  • keeewl

  • (Y) I like this song reminds me of gymnastics... I wasn't even born when they made this song not eve 15 years later.... lol

  • PLUS, Jack Lord could kick David Caruso's butt ANYTIME!

  • Yes Caruso is a twit!

  • @Azishome That may be, but Alex O'Loughlin is a much hotter McGarrett than Jack Lord.

  • @NawsChicky Bunk, Chicky! Plus, his character has NO character. Jack Lord's McGarrett would have walked into the governor's office and said he burned the money up and stood there and taken the consequences.

  • @Azishome

    Amen, brotha!

  • @JimmyJamesIV Yeah!

  • still the best ever !!

  • Easily the best theme song ever.

  • Book 'em Danno.

Loved this song, loved the show. And I actually lived about 20 miles from Jack Lord's ranch on the Big Island. Mahalo.

  • WOW! This was my very first 45. I was 8 years old. I purchased it with money I received for my holy communion. It cost me 69 cents.

  • cost me 7 dollars on ebay

  • Thank you for posting this! This was the first album I ever got; when I was six I asked my dad to go buy it for me because I loved this song. Still do!

  • fantastic! thanks for uploading!

  • excelent quality!
