@TallicLizzy but that was only from mid 1996-1998, WCW was there since 1988 when it bought out Crockett's NWA(or Mid Atlantic) and it took nearly 10 years to beat WWF in the ratings. WCW was the poor man's WWF until Hogan turned heel. NWA now that's a diiferent story, NWA was the shit and always will be main staple of professional wrestling.

Hmm, they need to do way better research. Pro wrestling was selling out huge arenas for decades before Vince jr took over. It was on TV for decades before that. He streamlined the product, wiped out the competition, made the bussiness work for the few instead of the many, and took it to new commercial levels, sure. Actually Austin became a big name before Goldberg did. Goldberg was pretty much the only star that WCW created in the late nineties (and the Giant to a much lesser extent, but he got out of shape and fizzled out), and people lost interest in him after his streak ended. WCW also fucked over Sting by giving him a tainted win over Hogan at Starrcade '97 after over a year of buildup.

WCW had Rey, Jericho, Eddie, and Benoit but kept them all in the midcard instead of making them big stars.

Raw beat Nitro well over a hundred weeks in a row from late 1998 until March 2001 when WCW was sold. WWE clearly won, and it wasn't really due to WCW self-destructing. It was due to the fact that WCW was totally incapable of creating its own stars in the late-nineties. WCW beat WWE for a while the WWE was still rebuilding itself. Once guys like Austin and the Rock became mega stars in WWE, WCW had no answer. WCW couldn't win with old ex-WWE talent anymore.
