I saw this movie in theaters as a kid back in 86 4 times and had the merchandise. It bugged me that it never came out on video for 7 years for i wanted it but good thing it did in 92 when i saw it in it's re-issue at 10 and got it for christmas that year.

Did you ever see it in theaters in both versions? i did, did you also see Song of the South re-issue, Sleeping Beauty re-issue, Aristocats 87 re-issue, Cinderella 87 re-issue, Bambi 88 re-issue, Fox and The Hound re-issue, Roger Rabbit, Oliver and Company, Rescuers 89 re-issue, Peter Pan 89 re-issue, Little Mermaid, Ducktales The Movie, Fantasia re-issue, Jungle Book re-issue, 101 Dalmations 91 re-issue etc.? i did.
