These loons don't understand the basics of thermodynamics. They used a car in 1st gear reviing at 4K RPM, (figure out the speed at the ground), had too much weight, and just wasted the rubber.
Friction/heat is caused by force AND SPEED of the tire. A bike tire with the engine rev'd at 9K RPM and the rear wheel at an equivalent of 90mph will catch on Fire.
Waste of over 2 minutes. Either post the complete video or get off youtube. Good thing I already know you can make a tire fire as I have done it myself with bleach.
@deathrift it is possible though, i have seen it done. i was at a burnout competition where one feller was running a 69 boss 429 running on alcohol, nitrous injection, 40lbs of boost, and pretty well every major mod imaginable, pushing over 1700 ft-lbs of torque with about 18" tall tires. he threw smoke straight back about 30 feet and eventually caught the drivers side tire on fire.
on some cars with f1 carbon ceramic brakes the brake discs heat up so much that they glow so if you were to spin the tires and then jam the brakes on then start spinning them and in thoery the radient heat from the brake discs should set the tires on fire its cheating according to the myth but hey it might work
I've seen it happen with a HMMWV (military) while performing a RO/RO operation with equipment coming back from use overseas. Almost caused the crew to hit the button and douse the entire ship with foam. It's not how fast they spin it's how long they've been spinning. But I guess that would also depend on the quality of the tire, most would pop before they caught fire.

Tires can, in fact, catch fire. Rubber will burn at a certain temperature, and many times they have due to the friction of a burnout... This isn't some "super powerful car", it's a Trans Am, with only one wheel spinning with a posi-trac rear end, which means that tire is spinning slower than the other side. If they had a locker or a spool, they would remove that issue, but still don't have enough power to turn the tire fast enough to get that heat. Not only that, but racing slicks do it best.

@deathrift it is possible though, i have seen it done. i was at a burnout competition where one feller was running a 69 boss 429 running on alcohol, nitrous injection, 40lbs of boost, and pretty well every major mod imaginable, pushing over 1700 ft-lbs of torque with about 18" tall tires. he threw smoke straight back about 30 feet and eventually caught the drivers side tire on fire.

on some cars with f1 carbon ceramic brakes the brake discs heat up so much that they glow so if you were to spin the tires and then jam the brakes on then start spinning them and in thoery the radient heat from the brake discs should set the tires on fire its cheating according to the myth but hey it might work

I've seen it happen with a HMMWV (military) while performing a RO/RO operation with equipment coming back from use overseas. Almost caused the crew to hit the button and douse the entire ship with foam. It's not how fast they spin it's how long they've been spinning. But I guess that would also depend on the quality of the tire, most would pop before they caught fire.

from the vid i can see why the tire did not burn but on larger tires like on trucks (19.5 or larger) the rear will burn from just driving down the road if one of the duels are low.

I have seen multiple bikes catch tires on fire without being worn to the belts. It goes out when they stop spinning it though.

usualy happens when unburnt fuel leaves the car with the exhaust fumes and is ignited by the wire in the tire sparking on the ground as the tire is spinning :D

Tires can, in fact, catch fire. Rubber will burn at a certain temperature, and many times they have due to the friction of a burnout... This isn't some "super powerful car", it's a Trans Am, with only one wheel spinning with a posi-trac rear end, which means that tire is spinning slower than the other side. If they had a locker or a spool, they would remove that issue, but still don't have enough power to turn the tire fast enough to get that heat. Not only that, but racing slicks do it best.
