The question you are asking is the same question Buddha asked many centuries ago...the very same one which led him to his search. In order to understand why do people have such tragic fates, one has to look at things from a karmic perspective.

Buddhism teaches that all life is the result of karma - and even YOU are karma. You as the person you are today, is the result of many thousands or possibly millions of years of spiritual evolution - from mineral/plant to animal/human.

..that was the point I was trying to make. Ask yourself the question 'Why did this baby lose the life the moment it was almost born?'. According to Buddhist beliefs, (brutal as it may sound), it is the baby's past karma that led it to die in such horror. Had it been born hours earlier, perhaps it would have avoided such tragedy.

Oh I see that my sentence wasn't well written. I should have made it clear that I consider it not a good thing to describe what some people label as "God" in details... so I meant that I disagreed with the Christians words of using terms like goodness, "He" and "His" as characteristics that I don't feel are useful terms to use in rlation to talking about the character of the Universe. I really don';t like the word "God" anyway. It has so many notions and differnt clutural attachments.

The world does appear to have a lot of bad things in it. Some can see this as a sort of inevitable balance. Sometimes people who fight against what they see as "evil" for justice end up causing ill effects elsewhere (eg, US's 1920's prohibition against alcohol ending up strengthening the mob and organized crime).

Sometimes bad occusances are like the fertile soil for good things to grow from. I don't know how how to find 'him'(I don't believe in a 'God' as a personality/ character /entity.

I find using words like 'Him' to descibe the ultimate nature of the Universe (I feel it seems more comfortable to me to see this as an integrated non-thing of the Universe and not a separate diety entity that created, has an interest in and affects the Universe) to be entirely culturally based. Essentially the trend stems from older ideas of a male sky god and a female earth goddess and the female aspect is taken away by the cultural fashion of the society leaving just the male sky god.

Yes , I found his approach much more appealing. There was once even in Christianity an approach of describing what 'God' wasn't .

Peraonslly I don't like the word 'God' as I find it is too used and there are too many preconceived notions about it. But then again this could be said about any word in any language. This is why there are cocepts that see that using rational language symbols to 'define' the Ultimate are bound to fail.
