I have a mountain chalet in Romania and there are plenty of snakes like this, vipera berus. How can i make them go away? Its not that i'm afraid but i dont like them i can once accidentaly step on it and it will atack. there are a lot :) what should i do? thank you. nice vid
@preacurvios they wont harm u if u give them space !!! but try to stamp your feet if there in your way.and your very lucky wish i could join you there then you would not have to worry
This is the most awesome snake ever! I hunt them down (not literally, just want them on a picture I don't ever touch those guys) and take a picture of them. It's very bad they are heavily endangered here in the Netherlands, but I make a study out of them. Everytime I see them I get more and more impressed of them. Great vid mate! 10+!
I did get some photo's at great risk though, got a little bit to close with my camera. It struck at me with a near miss, but do you now how cool it is to get THAT shot when a berus strikes at you with an open mouth? it's a little bit blurry but I got it together with some more photo's:)
As soon I know how to, you'd be the first one! Do you share my oppinion when I say there's far too less on National Geographic, Animal planet and discovery channel on the berus? I'd really love to see a Steve Austins or Jeff Corwin video docomentury on it...
@SuperTrixter123 That was unnecessary, if your dog gets bit it's not likely to die. My dog(a pudel who died cuz of age) got bit by a vipera berus once and he survived all fine. As long as it's not some sort of sissy chihuahua your dog will be fine.
Fucking stupid to kill an innocent snake, it's like me killing all foxes just because my rabbit might be killed by one.
By my familys summer-cabin here in Sweden there's a few vipers/adders. i remember "the old one" as with called him all black what i can remember, he and maybe more lived under the outhouse, Imagen going there at night to take a shit :) No one has ever been bitten there so best to leave them alone. We never use the out house now days, not the house for that matter, (leaking roof etc etc.)
Remember a black one in the forest, and from what i can remember the zig-zag on his back was light yellow.
great video. real interesting on habitat when going North. I'm volunteering in research in these snakes where I live. Are you doing this for research too?
I'm surely coming to Norway in the oncoming years. Maybe that I can find some too. It strikes me that there is a major color difference and size difference in these Norwegian adders.
Here in Latvia we have three: Natrix natrix, which is the most common and can be easily found even near human dwellings, Vipera berus, which is more reclusive, but still quite common and Coronella austriaca, which is very rare and hardly anyone here has seen one in wild.
@givebackrankflv There are three species of snakes here in Norway as well. In fact, we the same three species as you have in Latvia. Buorm - Natrix natrix, hoggorm - Vipera berus and slettsnok - Coronella austriaca.

Great vid showing both sexes of adder. I must admit that I have seen more dead than alive by quite away. Some people see the word venomous in books and when they see one they automatically try to kill it even though Adder venom is really weak and poses no real problem to people.
If you change 1 persons view of this beautiful snake then well done, more than that is a real bonus.
Thank you! I'm glad you liked it! :) I acctually know that I have made quite a few people think twice about this "dangerous" snake ;) And that's great! Some of my video also got on to national Norwegian TV, along with an interview with me ;)

Flott video!
absolutely fantastic video!! i been looking for decent vid's about vipera berus for a long time, and now i found one. :) if only you could improve the visibility of the subtitles somehow..
Takk for flott video. Takk igjen. Mvh. Per Christian og John Gabriel :-)
I agree with you, and I did try different colours to try and make the subtitles stand out as much as possible. Windows Movie Maker, sadly, has no subtitle-function as far as I know..!? Thank you very much for your comment. I'm very glad you enjoyed it ;)
Initially, when I first approach them they try to escape (see 2:26 f.ex). These are realy shy snakes.
What I do is, I catch them and put them down in an open area. They curl up hissing, but they will calm down real quick if I act calm and do nothing to threaten them. When they start to calm down I can carefully and gradually, approach with my camera to get closeups. This is demonstrated from 2:14 to 2:52 when I pick up this male, put him on a rock. He calms down and we photograph him ;)
I live in Scotland and have seen only 2 of these this year, 4 years ago I went out looking for them and would see at least 4 or 5 a day, these animals need to be saved.
In the terrain where I filmed this video we haven't seen a single snake in five years! Suddenly this year we found many. Most of them adults, so obviously they must have been there all these years, only we could not find them ;)
Hope the number of snakes in your area picks up again! Thank you for your comment :)
I was very gentle, and I released her unharmed ;) I believe that the more people learn about theese animals, the less likely they are to kill them when they see them in the wild. People fear what they don't know. That's what I'm trying to do here ;)
Up here in the north, they are active during the day. Especially mornings and evenings. After the sun setts they are often found on top of, or under, rocks that have been heated by the sun during the day ;) They need the sun. On cloudy cool days they may ligh out in the open all day trying to catch as much sun as possible. If the temperature drops under 13*c they go under ground.
Can you dei of their poisone?

look for one at a small road that goes in to some woodland.

Takk for flott video. Takk igjen. Mvh. Per Christian og John Gabriel :-)

Nicely done video. The text in English could've been made to stand out better (yellow?). I thoroughly enjoyed it. :-)

I agree with you, and I did try different colours to try and make the subtitles stand out as much as possible. Windows Movie Maker, sadly, has no subtitle-function as far as I know..!? Thank you very much for your comment. I'm very glad you enjoyed it ;)

wow did u manage to get right up to them without them running? are they really like that?
Ryushinji 2 years ago
Initially, when I first approach them they try to escape (see 2:26 f.ex). These are realy shy snakes.
What I do is, I catch them and put them down in an open area. They curl up hissing, but they will calm down real quick if I act calm and do nothing to threaten them. When they start to calm down I can carefully and gradually, approach with my camera to get closeups. This is demonstrated from 2:14 to 2:52 when I pick up this male, put him on a rock. He calms down and we photograph him ;)

krirre 2 years ago

I live in Scotland and have seen only 2 of these this year, 4 years ago I went out looking for them and would see at least 4 or 5 a day, these animals need to be saved.
WiLLEHM 2 years ago
I agree!
In the terrain where I filmed this video we haven't seen a single snake in five years! Suddenly this year we found many. Most of them adults, so obviously they must have been there all these years, only we could not find them ;)
Hope the number of snakes in your area picks up again! Thank you for your comment :)

Hey nhnho!
I was very gentle, and I released her unharmed ;) I believe that the more people learn about theese animals, the less likely they are to kill them when they see them in the wild. People fear what they don't know. That's what I'm trying to do here ;)
Hope you enjoyed the rest of the video ;)

Up here in the north, they are active during the day. Especially mornings and evenings. After the sun setts they are often found on top of, or under, rocks that have been heated by the sun during the day ;) They need the sun. On cloudy cool days they may ligh out in the open all day trying to catch as much sun as possible. If the temperature drops under 13*c they go under ground.
