When asked, I'd readily say Bioware is champion. Valve produces excellent games and fair enough service. They've both been around for roughly the same amount of time, come to think of it, as I was going to argue that Bioware feels like a granddaddy in comparison. Perhaps it was merely that as a child I felt an odd attraction to Baldur's Gate and thought if I played Half Life or Counter Strike I'd receive brain damage.
this would of been a tough one 2 choose.... Bioware one of the best RPG creator of all time or is it Valve the gods of FPS..... i think my brains about to blow X(
I am not even thinking about it. Ofcourse Valve cause the thing is that I even played any bioware games or I don't remember. But yea the match betwen thouse 2 will end before even strated.
I barely played any of Bioware's games now Valve sure has a lot of good ones with Garry's Mod, Half-Life, Counter-Strike, Team Fortress and Left 4 Dead.
@JackRed666 Half-life was awesome, and you also forgot to mention Portal, but left 4 dead, TF2, and counter-strike are, well, forgettable, don't you think?
@JackRed666 Yeah I like them to... but they don't demolish the roof. I mean in the end... L4D is a zombie game. How crushingly creative. Team Fortress is like Call of Duty with a better art style, diverse but balanced classes, and a kickass theme song (And no single player). For me, TF was a bit shallow.
@microsf121 Both companies have been making games since 2000ish. However, look at the games. Baldur's gate was an adventure RPG (which also was extremly influential), Neverwinter Nights was also extremly influential- I would argue that those two influenced WoW a lot. Valve, however, has made shooter... after shooter... after shooter... after shooter. Bioware almost always made something different every time, but the majority of the population just gets shooter after shooter.
Every single one of valves games has been innovative. While sometime in bioware's life, their games stopped being innovative. You said left 4 dead wasn't innovative because its just another zombie game. While the zombie part was true, not being innovative wasn't. The innovation lied in the level of cooperation you had to have with your teammates in order to survive, not it having zombies, making it a great friends game.
@microsf121 But Valve didn't make Counter-Strike, gooseman did, Team Fortress 2 is barely different from Team Fortress 1, which Valve also didn't make and was the actual source of the game influences you're talking about, though I will grant that Half-Life's scripted events made a difference. It needed at least one thing to not make it Doom with scientists.
Valve took those mods created by the community and made them into games. College students created a portal gun. Valve made portal. Gooseman created a half life mod. Valve made Counter Strike. Counter Strike influenced COD. Half Life influenced games like bioshock and doom.
Doom 3 Resurection of Evil had a gravity gun in it. A weapon introduced in guess what? Half Life. The gravity gun allowed you to use just about everything as a weapon. The telekinesis plasmid in bioshock also allowed you to use many objects in the enviroment as weapons. So yes, Half Life 2 did influence bioshock and doom.
The gravity gun weapon in Resurrection of Evil was used for developing Doom 3. At least that's what the developers say. I think I've read somewhere that when developing Doom 3, they used it to create damaged walls, etc. And Doom 3 was released a few months before Half-Life 2.
Also, the first two Doom games were released in the early 90's. So Half-Life couldn't have influenced those. But I wouldn't be surprised if they included the Grabber in ROE because of the popularity of HL2.
@RavagerDX doom was released in 2004 and hl2 too but hl2 was to be released in 2003,but beucase of a hacker they needed to find him witch tooked them a year
Excellent video. And I love valve/bioware. Half-life 2 is through the fucking roof.
But in the end, it's a hard faught battle, with blood all over the fucking place, but Bioware leaves, severely crippled.
Why?
Because Bioware has an absolute 100% success rate when making games. Portal and Half-Life (both of them) are really the only things that come to mind. Team Fortress had so much potential, but it was multi-only. Left 4 dead (both) were pretty forgetable.
Valves games are just innovative....theyre the 1st developer to emphasize a storyline for the FPS world( half-life) and on gameplay physics..(ragdolls, environmental reaction etc.) and also their 2 most innovative design of weapons merged with gameplay physics which are the GRAVITY GUN & PORTAL GUN in which many other games and game developers took their inspiration...so VALVE deserved to win....
valves awsome first because they take time and don't rush on making the game and the made STEAM if it wasn't for valve there would be no epic cool gamesfor the pc
@cutieprincess161 Except all the Blizzard games which "everyone" loves, all the id games, whose Quake engine Source is based off of, and the fact that Valve just buys up half of their IPs which begin as freeware mods and end as $30 downloads with higher poly models. There's no rushing involved because they let everyone else do the work. Let us also not forget that Bioware is one of the foremost RPG developers for PC, an arguably more epic genre than multiplayer shooters (which is Valve's shtick)
@TheStickFiguer Beg to differ from what? Half-Life and Portal both exemplify what I just said, and do not differ in any way. Half-Life is the only original (video game) IP that Valve has come up with. This is literal fact. Portal was a 2 hour long mod for Half-Life 2, whose gameplay and developers were adopted from Narbacular Drop. And yes, mods, however it doesn't matter much when all the good mods are bought up and sold as if they were retail games, does it? As I just said.
tf2 cs:s and Dod, three distinct multiplayer games. thats what i meant.
portal wasn't a mod, it was a game designed by college students that valve funded helped with and published. Portal 2, all valve. also portal is not played for its gameplay, (thats a huge lie, people love it) but its humor and story too. and another thing, portal was loosely based off of an idea./endragerant.
@themasteriswatching What you're saying is like comparing a romantic comedy with a full blown action movie. These are just examples, I don't care if you like one or the other, they are completely different in almost every respect except for the most petty similarities. And when you say that Valve adopts other engines and games and improves their graphics, is it really a problem that they stand on the shoulders of giants? I assure you those giants are standing on other giant's shoulders too.
@themasteriswatching There is no such thing as innovation, knowledge and technology are like building blocks, you must first lay down one block to be able to go higher. That is what you call unoriginal and bland, but I must remind you that man doesn't just come up with fantastic ideas out of the blue. Weather or not they deviate from the original as much as you would like is up to them, trying to prove what everyone knows is foolish. Before you spew something out, consider greatly what to say
Obviously, Valve is better than Bioware and will always be better.
They take their time to make games, which is the reason why they often delay games, because high-quality games takes time to make; and as a result, every game they make are all worth the wait. Plus, they had Steam.
Bioware games are awesome too. I mean, they developed one of the best RPG games ever.
@Rallinale Valve delays games because it's commercially convenient to only have one or two main releases per year. The development costs for things like Left 4 Dead, Portal, Team Fortress 2, etc. were much lower than things like Episode 3 (which was supposed to come out in 2008 but is now slated for 2011 at earliest). It's obviously not just a delay because they're "taking their time", it's their marketing strategy. Left 4 Dead 2 came out 1 year after the first and had AI problems. Explanation?
Valve: "What makes me a good game developer? If I were a bad game developer, you wouldn´t be sitting here playing the half-life series now would you?"
I think valve is a great developer of games. The only problem is that they haven't been making too many games latly and they need to work on that now. They need their half life episode 3 and portal 2 to actually come out and mabey some work on Team Fortress and other games. If they would get that done Valve would be undoubtedly the best developer of the year and of all time.
They can't really do much in the past year since they have been putting so much updates to the older games like tf2. I would vote for valve because they make the most superior games unlike any other.
Don't get me wrong Bioware is great but Valve's reputation is simply off the charts. They are the most respected game developer on the planet with massive support for their customers and community's. Their games are also of the highest quality.
@rigaudio That doesn't really work, considering how most game releases come out at the end of the year. So what has Valve done this year? They have released a great new UI beta for Steam and they've kept their games patched regularly.
