I'd like to ban marriage, or at least legal marriage. I'm serious. Marriage is a religious sacrament. I love it....if we have to protect the sanctity of marriage we should ban divorce. A quick search revealed an estimated 4-6 million people in America are gay. If we take the low estimate, 4 mil, and say they are half women and half men, 2 mil each, now half of them get married to each other 1 million marriages. Now average 10,000 per wedding times 1 million equals 10 BILLION in revenue we are loosing! It makes sense financially to support gay marriage.

Well, Im not a hugely knowledgeable person when it comes to religion, but I have discussed it with somebody who is, and the idea that contraception is evil made sense when the population of the earth was much smaller, so we had the resources to support more people. Now, we are throwing off the balance of sustainability, and so contraception makes more sense. We need to move forward with the times. The world has changed, and so old rules no longer apply or make sense. Some do, some don't.
Divorce rates among conservative Christians are significantly higher (Evangelicals 62% MORE likely than the general population) than for other faith groups, and much higher than Atheists and Agnostics. Maybe because conservative, "family values" men and women have a high infidelity rate. Or their oppressive "women need to be submissive to men" teachings. Originally ballots and referenda were hailed for being progressive and giving the people an opportunity to keep their elected officials in check and responsive; now the referenda are tools of special interest groups, and even worse than our politicians. It's not necessarily true that banning divorce will cause people not to get married at all. People are gonna get married anyway. Maybe we'll see less marriages, but people are still gonna do it. If you get into some gang usually you're not supposed to get out, or you'll get killed. But people join those gangs anyway, right?

Well, Im not a hugely knowledgeable person when it comes to religion, but I have discussed it with somebody who is, and the idea that contraception is evil made sense when the population of the earth was much smaller, so we had the resources to support more people. Now, we are throwing off the balance of sustainability, and so contraception makes more sense. We need to move forward with the times. The world has changed, and so old rules no longer apply or make sense. Some do, some don't.

Divorce rates among conservative Christians are significantly higher (Evangelicals 62% MORE likely than the general population) than for other faith groups, and much higher than Atheists and Agnostics. Maybe because conservative, "family values" men and women have a high infidelity rate. Or their oppressive "women need to be submissive to men" teachings. Atheists are 10% LESS likely to get divorced because they believe men AND women are equally responsible for a healthy marriage.

Originally ballots and referenda were hailed for being progressive and giving the people an opportunity to keep their elected officials in check and responsive; now the referenda are tools of special interest groups, and even worse than our politicians. I am getting sick of all of our special elections, most of which I vote in to keep some insane law from passing, something snuck in by landlords or insurance companies or churches.
