  • Great video and great tribute for a great man and teacher

  • Why the need to visit his grave? In my opinion its bordering on the behaviour of the superstitious. For me it has parallels in visiting Mecca or the grave of a Christian saint. Carl Sagan was an amazing man and I credit him with pulling me out of the haze of religion, but I would argue that the time and money spent on visiting where his body is interned would be better spent on learning more about the cosmos or donating to a charity or organisation that Carl would approve of.

  • This is one of my personal goals in life - to visit this man's final resting place.

  • did carl sagan have kids?

  • @prankmakers95 He has one that I know of. Nick Sagan.

  • wow alot of people sure like to dance on the mans grave, iv seen coulntless videos like this.... What Would Sagan Do?

i wonder if he would stand on a mans grave.

  • What are you talking about?

  • harry potter is buried in Ithaca only in the book, right? The real harry potter is buried in Israel..?

  • I have an old photo of his gravesite before the stone was placed where a young child, I assume, had placed a radio telescope constructed by Legos. Now that was moving.

  • Did you take that photo yourself? Or find it online?

  • I did a newsletter where I wrote an obituary of Carl and a subscriber sent a couple of grave site shots not long after burial.

  • Was his name Dave B.?

  • Correct.

  • He really was and is still something.

  • I would think a man like Carl Sagan deserves a better grave stone. He should have a museum with a statue dedicated to him. Greatest man to ever live.. he personally inspired me. R.I.P

  • Agree, he should have had an awesome grave, hes the reason I got into astronomy, I now own 4 telescopes and too many books to count, including all carls books. Its sad that many people dont even know who he was.

  • He didn't strike me as the kind of guy who would want a huge monument. He was just a human albeit a thinking one.

  • why did you step on his grave??? man that is so uncool

  • I did feel uncomfortable about that. However, Carl would be the first one to point out that the dead are unaware and therefore probably take no offense.

  • billions of stars in billions of gallaxies is the recipy for my tranquility... many thanx Mr.Sagan

  • Dude, that was nice of u to go there. I want to go myself, can u tell me what the cemetery is called or what the address is?

  • i find it sad that he has not been honored in a more public way, one of the true enlightened human beings of our time

  • Last summer's issue of the Ithaca Times had, IIRC, a poll on which Ithacan the public would most like to see a statue of on the Ithaca Commons.

    Carl won.

  • We're working on convincing the USPS to issue a Carl Sagan Forever stamp.

  • Muchas gracias.

    HONOR A QUIEN HONOR MERECE.

  • Except he was Atheist.

  • Which was a good thing, u fuck.

  • Very moving. Thanks for posting. It allow those who can't personally go themselves, to "visit" the resting place of a great man.

  • Thanks for this, so strange to see his grave, I've driven from Niagara Falls to New York must have passed near Ithaca, if I get in range again, I'll definitely go. It's odd this desire us humans have to feel a physical presence of the dead, not sure I'll take a marble, possibly getting a bit mystic for me, but having said that, if a saw a dandelion seed nearby, I would just have to sit next to his grave and let it go in the breeze.

  • Not mystic, just sentimental. :-) You understand - as evidenced by your dandelion seed reference.

As a hardened skeptic, I see nothing wrong with being sentimental. Or hoping that we're wrong. Who among us, when hearing the end of the song "When Carl Sagan Died" does not start to cry at least a little?

  • Pale Blue Dot - Great music. Found you via Jeff Williams site. Heard a nice quote from Carl Sagan the other day. I yo want to make an apple pie "from scratch" you need to start by creating the universe.

  • Thanks for posting that video.

    Where is that place? city

I'll ask you to do me a favor. Could you please go to google earth and try to find satellite images of that place.

  • Lakeview Cemetery in Ithaca, NY. Which is off of Wyckoff Rd./Ave. I hope i'm getting the spelling right there. Google doesn't have detailed images of Ithaca (which is outrageous!). At some point i'll get GPS coords for Carls grave to help admirers find him.

  • yes harry poter is dead, i also shot a vid on direction to the grave site and unbenounced mine is just like yours. i think ill just let you be the guide as i my voice makes me sound gay

  • Thanks for posting SardonicusRexx. Carl's legacy lives on.

  • I hope to upload another Carl-related video within 24 hours. Be on the lookout our just subscribe.

  • If you remain alive in the hearts of those you leave behind, you never really die.

  • Thaks for sharing this video.

  • Good commentary. Good tour guiding. Still strange to think he's left us - but your video shows us all too clearly that he has.

  • Very well done!
