i feel like a woman riding my 883.. but it was all i could afford for my first bike.. my buddies all have softail deuces and 1200 sportsters and they wont even let me ride with them when they go on rides.. im gonna sell that thing after i get better at riding.. cant take feeling like a woman anymore
You could try growing a dick, if your friends won't let your ride with them ... maybe they just plain dont like you... the 1200 looks like the 883, get some open pipes and noone will know :D
@FightTheSystem1492 sounds like you need some new friends ... There is no way its your bike that keeps them from wanting you there maybe its just your lack of skill or not to be a total dick they don't like you hahaha.. I have an Iron 883 and I ride with my fam and friends who have bigger harleys and my buddies who have crotch rockets
I think H-D made a mistake by not continuing production of this bike past 2008. As I understand, the 883R is still offered in other major markets around the world, but not here in the USA! That is a disgrace! There's NO reason why a bike manufacturer shouldn't offer entry-level bikes to most sized riders, not just short or bantam-sized. I say let H-D bring back the 883R to the American market and drop the 1200-Low!
Thanks for all the advice. I've had all my steel bits powder coated not to stop em rusting. Should last a while now. Don't know why HD don't do it properly in the first place tho.

Sportsters are utter shit. Mine has rusted so bad Ive gotta get it all repainted. The rear mudguard rusted, the chrome fell off the rear wheel, mirrors bubbled, the laquer on forks failed and the alloy corroded, the chainguard rusted, front rim rusted through etc. My Sportster is an 04 and is kept in a garage. The metal has only one coat of (shit) paint with no primer. It has no chance against UK weather. Come on HD pull your fucking socks up
Poor thing, the winters in Blighty rot a lot of bikes. Sportsters are very exposed, they last well in southern states in the US but it was simply silly to think they'd do well in the Britain.
Why not try a Bonneville? I had one in London for years, you have to keep up with the chrome but it cleaned up well, Handled very well was light-ish and had more power per weight than the 883.
maybe you accidentally bought a chinese fake counterfeit? But yeah, to keep it alive, it has to be cleaned and greased alot. To bad you have a bad experience with the bike. Cheers
just for some good info if you wash and wax it regularly keep it covered or under a shed i dont think youll have a problem but if you have problems with rust get a plastic jap bike. my 2 cents take it for what its worth to ya
IM GOING ON A TRIP FROM CARACAS VENEZUELA TO RIO DE JANEIRO BRAZIL ... i got to decide, 07harley 883 or 09KLR 650 for me its all about reliability.. does someone has an opinion?
KLR anyday, HDs are really for the most part inferior to modern jap or Euro bikes. The sportster is not made for much other than a good day blast from home and back.
They look cool and are strong but the KLR is made for what you are attempting.
Really?..come on, he looks like a fool. If a man is going bald on the top of his head, he shouldn't grow it long on the sides. He looks like that freaky guy from the "Rocky Horror Picture Show!"
Sure it is the longest produced make in the harley line, but that stops at 52 years. If it's very popular, why the hell would they want to discontinue it?
Correct, and it's value does NOT depreciate! Therefore, you can get what you paid for on it when or if you decide to trade it in. However, there are exceptions. Example: I found a sporty on craigslist in perfect condition for $2500!!!!
The nightster is two toned...you are thinking of the Iron 883. All blacked out excepet the exhaust. You can get one NEW for 7000 (they will tell you $7999 but they will sell it to you for $6999
We have a 1200 which has a little more zip, forward controls, and 54 mpg. I will say that the stock seat will arc you a sore ass. And I can concur with the suspension comment as it is not as smooth as my Heritage. But the Sporty is nimble, quick, and that beast can corner the lip of a beer bottle. If I were in the mountains, I would take the Sporty every time through the switchbacks.
the worse thing about my 08 sportster is the suspension which is a joke, front and rear ,harley davidson should recall them all back to fix the problem and the tank 12lt that's a bigger joke if you want to go for long trips,, great video clip
No Harley didn't make sportsters for girls. Harley made a K model first. Then added the name to sportster. Both models were to be pealing to the female rider but was never made exclusively for female gender. Now as far as being biest. You are very wrong. I ride with many girl bikers. I think they are cool. Besides I didn't mean it the way you took it. I meant if you thought sportsters are week they are not. And they will hurt you if ridden. carelessly. Quit being so sanctimonious. K?
I would agree. I have a Sportster and it's far from a girls bike. I see girls riding all makes of bikes, even Road Kings, does that make it a girls bike too?
Don't you know that harley purposely made the sportster girly ? besides what's wrong with girly ? why sell to the guys only when so many gals are into motorcycling also ? you are too bias.
anytime, i would choose the carburated engine over the fuel injection. by the way, i got one thign in mind that i wanna seek clarification. I read in some older megazines that said the Virago xv535 is a better mid size cruiser compared to the sporster. Is this true ? I know the 535 looks hot and smooth. but is it really a better bike with a better ride ?
yes, virago is a better bike; any other manufacturer is better than any of the harleys. harleys are over priced and don't justify their price with respect to value, performance, and reliability. the yamaha line is much better than hd.
I see now. Thank you for much for teh clarification. I totally agree with you. Harley is over priced. The funny thing is, they always use the old engine with new price tag. damn.
i had a Virago535, now i have a Sportster 883. The Yamaha has much better suspension and overall handling, it's also much lighter. The power ratio on both is basically the same, since the Sportsters more powerful engine is let down by the additional 50 kilograms in weight. I must however say that i prefer the Sportster, the overall build quality is "bulletproof" compared to the Yamaha. The Yamaha engine also requires carb synchro and valve adjustments, unlike the simpler Harley design :)
ok, virago has better suspension, handles better.I'd say that virago is faster too. maintenance is cheaper, drink less petrol. virago is bullet proof too actually. you hardly need to adjust the carburators or the valves. but i'm with you in term of simpler engine deisgn.
the carbs need synchronizatiion and valves need adjusting every 3800 miles on the yamaha, w/ fluid and filter changes. The parts are also very expensive on the Yamaha - go ask the price for a new stator ;) . My Virago used to get me around 5 L of fuel every 100km, my Harley is about the same. Hard riding the Harley u get 5,5/100km , and when touring u get 3,9/100km (tested). When the engine dies in a few years i'll just do a 1200 conversion and i'll basically have a new engine ;)check my youtub
hi 666, i totally agree with you. Yamaha parts are really quite expensive. that's part of the reason why HD top the sales in USA. I hope that yamaha will do soemthing about the spare parts pricing. Honda's parts are quite cheap though. I had a Honda shadow 600. but i don't facy water cooled engine that much. although the engine is very quiet. i still prefer air cooled engine. Just too bad yamaha doesn't sell just the engine. I love what people do on their harleys. just swap the engine.
If you want to work on your own bike a carb is more simple. The less electronic doodads the better. The only things you really need are fuel, air, and spark.
Cool video. Looks like some nice curves there. Oh, and the 883 is an awesome bike. It's really powerful, but the 1200 blows it out of the water (for not much more money).
sportsters are definitely for females unless its been bobbed out
