I wonder how three years has improved him.
This performance needs more control, and expression.
Huge improvement on most of the vids we see on Youtube. Yeah, he could use some work on achieving longer phrases in one breath but that will all come with time. It's great that this is played with good intonation, nice secure tone and it's *music* not just notes. This piece has character, I'll take this over 100 pointless presentations of Flight of the Bumble Bee uploaded to make us all go "wow, so fast", this child has great potential.
My dad was trying to play this song on the alto sax, apparently it didn't turn out so well.XD But seriously, the Asians are always best at something.A friend of mine plays the clarinet and it sounds awesome(he's Korean,so he's obviously awesome).I wish I was Asian.
Awww! I remember having one of those headpieces, because it was too long with a normal one so i couldn't reach anything past the 5th key (normally E).
But he'll find it difficult after because the flute's in a different position with and without :\
I hate to be racist, but a lot of the flute vids have been like 8 year old asains. I mean their amazing, but it seems a little odd that they pick up something like this so easily
@xNWxgAmEr I hate to be an a-hole, but learn to spell before you start stereotyping people. They don't just "pick it up" they probably practice more in a day than you have in your entire life. 0_o
i like his bass flute..... or whatever u guys wanna call it. to me i think the bass flute r suppose to be bigger, but idk it can be a tenor or a bass one of those. i play the flute so i kn o what they r
definitely a classic jazz song (and i absolutely love the song you should check out the version by Stan Getz) however, played in this fashion it is hardly jazz. definitely cool to see young children picking up an instrument (i wish i had my sax at his age) but its not really jazz w/o improvisation or at least a little swing
@BenjaminLOfficial multiple martial arts? there could be tae kwon do, karate, 醉马骝(drunken monkey) ju juitsu... you should be more specific, or other people might not believe you(cough cough) and a 14 in Berklee? possible, but you have to be freaking amazing, and extremely mature, which isn't likely, considering the fact that your arguing over something stupid on youtube. and telling someone that your life is better than theirs will ever be? wow, that's low. and your original comment was racist.
@iPenguin5684 Well it could be two things. One she's small so its a piece added so her mouth can reach the tone hole or Two its a bass flute.... which i doubt.
@iPenguin5684 its a curved headjoint children's flute. The mouthpeice is ment to be that way.It helps smaller or younger kids play the flute without straining their arms
@wfbone My comment really has nothing to do with the kid nor is his age even relevant. I was merely commenting on the label someone decided to give him. Simply playing a popular song doesn’t mean he’s playing jazz. To label him as a “jazz flute player” is not only incorrect, it’s misleading.
for everyone who's asking why is the flute shaped like this, the answers is: its a flute built for early starters because they have little arms that are too short to reach to the end of a normal flute, not this flute, but bass flute are shaped similarly......and this little dude plays beautifully :) BRAAVOOOO
It's the type of flue, it has nothing to do with his age. It's called a Bass flute. Longer the instrument, the lower the sound, the curve makes it longer, thus lower.
@PiDraegon Although you make an excellent point about flute types, I do not believe that that is a bass flute. I may be wrong but it does not look as big as it should be and the range in which he plays sounds like flute to me.
@becafuentes Actually it's not a bass flute. Bass flutes look similar to that, but they have a lower sound and our longer. The reason his head joint is curved is because off his young age and short arms. Most children who start of early on the flute used a curved head joint :)
@Topqueen33 its shaped like that for little kids who cant reach their arms that long, usually when you get older when you grow you'll use the regular mouthpiece
@Ezpopp It's connected to it and therefore they call it a mouthpiece? 1) The foot joint is connected to it. The foot joint is not called the mouthpiece. 2) Who are "they" that you mention? A flute consists of the head joint, the body and the foot joint. A mouthpiece is something that goes IN your mouth (as with a clarinet) or ON your mouth (as with a trumpet). With a flute, you do NOT put your mouth on anything. You rest the lip plate on your lower lip. Seriously. Curved mouthpiece?
@WiimusicGirl I'm also 12 and can play at the same level as hi,.but by the time HE reaches twelve,he'll probably be better than both of us. That's why there's the term "Practice,Practice,Practice!"
For smaller kids (or for bigger flutes on regular sized people, some flutes have a bent head joint. It doesn't affect the tuning...just makes it easier to reach!
kid got skillz on the technical side. breathing and phrasing takes more time and feeling and soul is the last ingredient that most technically correct players lack.
@Rockstarsinger59 dude its a flute..i play flute and piccolo, and that is a flute.. i have been playing for 7 years, and that is definatly a flute. piccolo is a mini flute, that is alot smaller and has a higher pitch than a flute.
@musicfreak556 ya umm for three years now and i hav been in honor band which is a concert of the best 6th grade band, string, and choir in my town ya thats all ive done really in music
@UniqueCandle no its just bent because he is young and cant fully reach the keys without a bent headjoint, it doesnt affect the quality or the sound of the flute.
