Huge improvement on most of the vids we see on Youtube. Yeah, he could use some work on achieving longer phrases in one breath but that will all come with time. It's great that this is played with good intonation, nice secure tone and it's *music* not just notes. This piece has character, I'll take this over 100 pointless presentations of Flight of the Bumble Bee uploaded to make us all go "wow, so fast", this child has great potential.

Awww! I remember having one of those headpieces, because it was too long with a normal one so i couldn't reach anything past the 5th key (normally E).

definitely a classic jazz song (and i absolutely love the song you should check out the version by Stan Getz) however, played in this fashion it is hardly jazz. definitely cool to see young children picking up an instrument (i wish i had my sax at his age) but its not really jazz w/o improvisation or at least a little swing

for everyone who's asking why is the flute shaped like this, the answers is: its a flute built for early starters because they have little arms that are too short to reach to the end of a normal flute, not this flute, but bass flute are shaped similarly......and this little dude plays beautifully :) BRAAVOOOO

It's the type of flue, it has nothing to do with his age. It's called a Bass flute. Longer the instrument, the lower the sound, the curve makes it longer, thus lower.

@becafuentes Actually it's not a bass flute. Bass flutes look similar to that, but they have a lower sound and our longer. The reason his head joint is curved is because off his young age and short arms. Most children who start of early on the flute used a curved head joint :)

A flute consists of the head joint, the body and the foot joint. A mouthpiece is something that goes IN your mouth (as with a clarinet) or ON your mouth (as with a trumpet). With a flute, you do NOT put your mouth on anything. You rest the lip plate on your lower lip. Seriously. Curved mouthpiece?

For smaller kids (or for bigger flutes on regular sized people, some flutes have a bent head joint. It doesn't affect the tuning...just makes it easier to reach!
