  • Unfortunate that i could never attend Ustadji's live concert. He is my no1. love in Vocal music. Thank you for the upload. I request if any one has any music live from Him, pl put it on the net for posterety

  • It is great to see classical music on YouTube for a change..and Ustad Amir Khan...What a legend

  • Hello, can anyone please tell me which chords will apply to Raaga Malkauns? Inspired by Ustaadji, I'm trying to make a tune based on the Raaga on my guitar, so I also need to decide the rhythm.

Also please confirm if the following notations as translated into to Western scales are correct:

Aaorh: C, Eb, F, Ab, Bb, Cb

Avronh: Cb, Bb, Ab, F, Eb, C

  • @ashubhalaa, Hi Raag Malkauns uses a pentatonic scale and so:

    Aaorh: C, Eb, F, Ab, Bb, C

    Avronh: C, Bb, Ab, F, Eb, C

  • @sanj2game : thanks for correcting... but what chords will apply to these notations?

  • @sanj2game

Hi , i cant agree more that music is universal language and do not discriminate on basis of religion , creed , caste but i cant understand that or more classical singers sings. can anyone brief me that ustad amir is singing and how can i understand it?

  • 1st time in my life I could see him life with his wonderful voice as I use to listen in Cassette and later on Cd now a days;Thank you for uploading this.

  • where's the rest of this vid?

  • he was a master, we lost him very early.

  • this is awesome

  • @mdroach9 16/4 would be most accurate. However the indian idea of tala is not analagous to time signature. Time signature implies a length fo bar than we can hear/apprehend as a "feeling" or "groove" (usually). Indian talas are longer and are therefore more of an organizational element or structural principle.

  • What time signature is this in?

  • @mdroach9 The laeh (beat) is teen taal, 16 beats, 4 cycles per beat Bols: dha dhin dhin dha,dha dhin dhin dha, ta tin tin na, dha dhin dhin dha,

Its not as simple as there is a bar of 4 cycles namely : Khali (ta tin tin na) on which less imphasis is given. Sub-continental classical music cannot be easily written in westren notation. I think it can be written as 4/16.

  • @mdroach9 I think its teen taal but I'm not sure

  • @mdroach9 clearly this is 4/4 time. A taal called tintaal which is actually a 16 beat cycle.

  • sahar angaizi-e-awaaz-e-ameer-e-indore shuneedni hai

  • do you have the entire thing?

  • such control and finesse! wow...

  • Khan sab Ustaad Amir khan is my most favorite in Classical, His so pure, full of love and peace. Its really a blessing him in live singing, I like his Raaga Marva very very much.

Thanks for sharing and giving us privilege to see him with all his legendary fellows.

    God bless you dear

  • Beautiful Classical Music - Thanks

  • fantastic! vocal + sarangi + tabala ... wow!

  • Superb singing

  • Aap bemishaal hain ustad saahab....

  • Ustad Amir Khan sahib, aap ki awaaz ka jawab nahin.

  • @gujer302

    KMA

  • @gujer302

Bloody fool,F***K U budy..if U cant understand the music then better go to heal....buzz off creature.

  • many here are comparing Amir Khan sahib with ustad BGAK. I think they had very distinct styles which makes it very hard to compare. Amir khan-sb definitely had a more austere puritan style while BGAK-sb had the more agressive style. I personally like AK-sb more, but i believe making any generalizations will be very poor idea. Apki apni fitrat pe depend karta hai, aap kisko jyada pasand karenge.

  • Also listen to Smt. Tulika Ghosh

  • No doubt Ustad is the best. Now a days nobody can sing like him.

Thanks for uploading this great comp.

  • amazing voice ...Ustad Amir Khan was a devine gift to us all...

  • SubhanAllah- A great singer and immortal Artist

  • He is great singer.but dont forget,Ustad SARHANG. from afghanistan,aMONG 5 Usatd he is one of them. with all respecht.

  • And I had the infinite good fortune of meeting Khansaheb Amir Khan in person after his concerts; he was the embodiment of dignity and humility

  • Of course he was an ustad of ustads. But it would be unfair compare Bade Ghulam Ali Khan to him. Does not do justice to their individual talents. Both started out as sarangi players! Both consciously gave it up for practically the same reason!

  • What an incredible live performance of the maestro. I wonder how you managed to get this video? Thanks very much for posting this video. Finally, I can see the person that I admire so much in real motion on the video. I think he was the real complete singer. He had the voice and the ability to make vilambit so powerfully unique. I believe he was superior to BAGK in many ways. Thanks again

  • Hello Brother. Who is BAGK???

  • Bade Ghulam Ali Khan

  • @bandodkar superior to bgak????? who're u to decide??? they both r incredible....i bet u've not listened to bgak or may be u're just saying it

  • I have been longing to see Amir Khan performing. He never fails to impress and move . Fantastic consistency; combination of the heart and the brain at work! Sbdul Karim Khan Sahib was a natural and unimitable soul; but Amir Khan Sahib shows that even mortals can rise to tremendous heights!

  • Amir khan is a sea of music his style of singing has so peacefull that even it aproach the soul whie singing tarana with the depth of khayal . He is living in our heart

  • Amazing. Note the accompaniment on sarangi. Maestros at work.

  • Comment removed

  • subah allah kaan saab allAh aap ko JANAT naseeb karay AAMEEN

  • we were talking about the space between us and...

  • Utterly Brilliant. Thanks for posting this gem!

  • probably recorded in or before 1968 in delhi television centre.

  • beautiful . especially with sarangi accompaniment AND the absence of the horrid cacophonium.

  • great video, I love raag malkauns!

  • thank you for putting this. its very precious collection for all the classical lovers.

  • WOW !!great !!! please keep posting such great videos! thanks!

  • Nice!!!

  • gr8 clasical music

  • Divine music - Thanks for posting this

  • people have absolutely no right to come to these forums and leave hateful remarks if they r not interested in such kind of music...for some people this music is sacred...music has no religion or caste or anything...people should understand that they might hurt others immensly

  • @sonalkalia indore gharana is one of the gharana;s with the most difficult gayiki....

  • kya bahte

  • Just great, wah wah wah... A big fun of Ustadji from Afghanistan

  • Can we have religion out of here please? This is art, this is a way to achieve peace of mind... Enjoy it people, this is one of the great renditions...

  • Just Beautiful !!!!!!!

    MIND BLOWING !!!!

  • why ,just because he is muslim.you racist mother fucker. you go get a life .if krish1224 is expressing his feeling who the fuck are you to tell him differnt

  • To RakshaV, plase tell me more about your belief regarding other people's Gods, because you have just condemmed a huge segment of the world's population, and accused them of no depth in their lives, and in doing so you contradict most moral codes by any standard. A belief that you are right above all else is, in my opinion, incredibly narrow minded and possibly the most shallow thing I have seen on youtube, and that is saying something.

  • RakshaV, if u fail to see Ustad Amir Khan as one of rhe greatest artists of India, then I am returning your own words to you.... it is time for u to evaluate your life, set priorities (whether to evolve into a human being or remain a bigot), and seek enlightenment. Otherwise u will know (one day, hopefully) how shallow your life is. I am with Krish1224.

  • @RakshaV He is my god too and I am a hindu brahmin. Who the hell are you to question my priorities. There is goddess Saraswati in him - he has attained what I can't even come close to.

  • @RakshaV

I think you ought to add another S in your username.. RakshaS would be a more appropriate description for a mentality like yours..

  • To me Amir Khan is God incarnate, i.e., if there is someone out there called God.

He is the best Hindustani vocalist there ever has been: listen to his Marwa, Darbari Kanada, Yaman, Lalit, Abhogi to name a few. His mellifluous voice, his ingenious voice control, his interpretation of each of the ragas that he sang, leaves you transfixed, wondering how is it possible for any human being to improvise like this!

As, I said before, Amir Khan is my God.

  • i am seeing haters like you in every online forum. the youtube indian classical music community was the only one till now unaffacted, where ppl from india pakistan afghanistan etc could come together, showing love and respect to each other. now that you have done the great job of spewing your vile hatred here, all i can tell u, is get a life, and allow ppl to listen to music in peace. SOB

  • @shankyxyz agreed

  • Amazing rendition of Raag Malkauns by none other than Ustadji himself.

  • I don't think Pt. Jasraj comes anywhere close to Ustad Amir Khan Saheb. Ustad ji was an exceptional voice.

  • Amir Khan was great, but your remark about Jasraj only shows your ignorance. Just different

  • @shishirpandey42 Don't compare, I have known Jasraj-ji, a little bit and he is a big fan of Ustad Amir Khan saheb. Our classical music gives everybody a chance to interpret ragas, each interpretation by a great singer is divine in it's own right. This is one of the main reasons why it has evolved into what it is. There is no competition - Also, Malkauns is such a vast raga that there is tremendous scope for improvisation in every presentation.

  • Learn ragas online FREE at sikhphilosophy dot net under thread heading "Kirtan with English sub-titles".

  • brilliance

    and no mike!

  • waaah..beautifuully done..thank u so much for sharing..

  • th world of indian music is at a loss that a person with so much of a divine voice had to give up his life in a freak road accident in calcutta. had that not happened amir khan would have certainly emerged as the preeminent icon of idian classical music.

  • hi adhthi, USTADJI is an icon. He did that 30 years ago.

  • @adhithi Ustad Amir Khan is a pre-eminent icon in Indian classical music. Look at how Khayal is being sung by today's artists in India, you will see a glimpse of Ustad Amir Khan's style in every artist no matter which gharana.

  • people endowed with reasonable hold on the factors that go into shaping voice culture would keep amir khan's voice at the pinnacle

  • one can appreciate voices of bade gulam ali khan , dv paluska , fiyaz khan, pt bhimsenjhosi and jasraj to qoute some stalwarts name but it can be arguably mentioned with conviction tat amir khan's voice is inimmtiable and it stands out.

  • the sonorous and deep voice of acharya amir khan is so precious and unique it will be almost impossible to hear similar fabulous voice .

  • MINDBLOWING!MASHALLAH!!!

  • if only we had musicians of this calibre alive today.

  • not even close to what?? ur a**?? get a life dood!

  • Not even close to Ustad Amir Khan, in case you have difficulty in following the conversation. If you have doubts, you should try and pose this question to renowned Ustads/Pandits and check out what they say.

Also, you need to stop calling names, if you want to have a meaningful conversation.

  • i don't know why i got negative comments....

Ustad Amir Khan sabh ji is my favorite hindustani classical singer ever........

however, we are fortunate to have performers at that calibre as well.....Ustad Rashid khan?!?!

  • I didn't give you a negative comment. Ustad Amir Khan was not just a virtuoso performer but a singer whose style has touched all hindustani classical performers. If you have a chance pose this question to say Pandit Jasraj or Pandit Bhimsen and listen what they have to say.

  • I understand that they will talk admiringly of him, but to say we have musicians that are "not even close", as you say, to him....is a hyperbole.

  • It is not a hyperbole but you don't have to take my word for it. There is a small interview on youtube where Malikarjun Mansoor talks about todays singers. Now if you feel that you know more about classical music than him then I have no argument.

  • actually ustad bade ghulam and usta ammir khan admired each other. who ever does the coparision of those 2 they need more knowlege on the subject, these

Giants of music had very differnt one gave you boque of flowers other gave you nostalgia. They both will intoxicate you but un different ways.

Thank you for the clip, i appreciate it.

  • Also, don't forget many other ustad who were magnificient. Ustad Abdul Karim Khan, Ustad Abdul Wahid Khan (whose style Ustad Amir Khan sings), Ustad Allah Diya Khan, Aftabe Mousiquie Ustadon ke Ustad Faiyaaz khan, Ustad Taanras khan and many others.

  • hey, all the ustads u have named were fabulous... but amir khan sahab was a combination of all the qualities which these ustads individually had... and also amir khan sahab did not learn music from anybody.. he had his own style which is called amir khani shaily or the indore gharana and it has influenced a whole generaton of vocalsts and insrumentlists

  • If you have heard all the ustads that I named then you wouldn't be making this comment. OK - tell me what is the difference between Ud Amir Khan's style & Ud Faiyaz Khan's style ?

  • As people, perhaps... but it is well known that BGAK criticized AK's gayaki, saying ati vilambit was just a way of occupying one's time, while AK responded saying that those who cannot sing ati vilambit, with the raga elaboration that it entails, would no doubt critize/dismiss it.

  • a matchless classical, thanks for posting.

  • I wish to get in touch with the kind soul who posted this. I would do anything to get a copy of this clip for my personal collection, for which I'd be eternally grateful. Cannot thank you enough for this.

  • If the standard used to put a certain person into an elite group, that of 'legend', is influence in the field and on future generations then Amir Khan is matchless. If the standard is talent and ability bade ghulam ail is matchless and in which case it is arguable that mike tyson or jack dempsey are the greatest in hitmewithmusic..'s list.

  • In the 20th century we had Einstien in science/mathematics, Ali in boxing, Wagner in western classical music and Ustad Amir khan in Indian Classical music. Legends we salute you not wagner he was a fascist.

  • rare collection keep sendind.

  • These rare contributions make Youtube valuable. Thanks for posting!

  • i can listen to it for the whole day and not get bored of it...thanks for uploading, good job.

  • Thanks a ton sir.

  • Divine music - Thanks for posting this gem.

  • excellent... no words... a maestro is a maestro one cannot rate a maestro... rather worship him and pray for his blessings!

  • Very well said, couldn't have said better.

  • Nice work done appreciate Your upload and what a singer he is!!!

  • Was this filmed in Calcutta? Real gem.
