when curtis passed away his funeral lasted 6hours there were so many people who came to see him i mean everybody he was like elvis rockers played tributes to him eric clapton had a tribute album out everbody played something and this song was the topper
@1955annemarie ~ It was still a transision thru the "white times" but I can assure you there were those of us, who were white, who loved Curtis Mayfield, Marvin Gaye, Major Lance, Jackie Wilson and a host of other black singers & groups. I appeared on one of the L.A. television dance shows (9th Street West with Sam Riddle) as I begun my senior year ~ Fall, 1964. Asked the H.S. girl of my dreams to go, Ms.Joan Eide. I played this genre of music all the way to Vietnam in 1969 and home again!
wow, glad to see the "white guy dance" hasn't evolved, much, the only one in the room not "listening to the beat" when tapping his feet...sooooo maybe not EVERBODY clap your hands.....>.<
@stoneyPOCKET Ha, ha!! I hear you on that one!! but it looks as if this was shot on the set of the hit show, "Hullaballoo," (sorry for the awful spelling!!), which aired circa 1966-1967, still a real "white time," but things were "Movin' On Up"!!
Good song but if you want to know ( and you don't) this is the good but not I'm So Proud or Gypsy Woman or Sad Sad Girl and Boy or I'm the One who Loves You or Minstrel and Queen. But everybody clap your hands give yourself a chance!
An interesting audience. The lanky guy on the right with the slick hair looks like he could pick up just about any girl, LOL. And that blond boy looks like maybe 14 years old at most.
I therefore conclude this probably wasn't a nightclub, rather a high school dance.
thats just the way those old music shows were, had to have go go girls lol, great music, you can tell how Jimi got so good when he was playing this R and B night after night
I was born in 1948 so the sixties were my teenage years. At that time I lived in the East end of London all the local dance halls, discos played Tamla. Alantic and other American black music. No Beatles or Stones etc. Dancing was very important to us then and you had to look good on the dance floor. Your mates and others could be ruthless if you were not. Those girls on the Impressions video would have died.
Man did I rock The Arlington Skatium in L.A. around 1964 when this one came on. Everyone in the place was vibing and knowing it was a GOOD time for music. Whatever dancing thats done on the vid doesn't really matter as we all knew how to get down then and now . LOL
"Now give yourself a chance."
Forever loving me some Impressions....(O)(G) Keedah
The poor Impressions! They have to watch those Whitey's spasmic writhing while performing their song. Probably wish that dancefloor wasn't segregated like it is.
Fantastic Song!! the ATROCIOUS dancing really doesn't do justice to this performance. i think i'd have cringed/laughed out if i were the Impressions watching from the stage.
I sure miss having a good time with this music from back in the day! Those were the days and this was the music...No music like this music ever.. The fabulous 60's and fantastic 70's..A time when everyone got along partied and had a REAL GOOD TIME! SIGHS!
So proud to have been born in the era.
And Yes! I have alot of SOUL! "Smile" Peace all!
Great music, memories, friends and the BEST of times!
Thank you BenKarbie for posting a phenomenal classic and memory!
@motownazn - both groups formed in the late 1950's - evolving with new names and new members. The Impressions achieved chart success earlier but the Temptations followed with hits just a couple of years later (especially starting in 1964).

@chiladin I've been a musician for 50 years, and watching from the bandstand has been a trip. Most white people have rhythm problems - watch the audience at a show and see how many white folks clap on "1&3". All good musicians have some Soul blood in their family tree, whether they know it or not...........
I saw these guys live at William and Mary in 1964. Even then I knew what I was seeing. A definitely once in a lifetime experience. Wish I could go back to that day somehow. I'd rather be there than here.
I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Mayfield while working at the greenbriar radio shack in atlanta. His son todd and i attended morehouse together. Mr. Mayfield was such a kool dude. and i didnt know at the time how great he really was. he is truly missed.
thats right we got good taste in muzik, hey mayne i luv that chopped mayfield.... did you do that yourself,i've listen to it 3 times.. i like to make beats as well. i used F.L. studios to make mine,, peace and keep it gangsta.
yeah, all of the beats that i posted were made by my hands. i use fl studio too. fl studio 8. do you have some beats posted on youtube? if so, id like to hear em.
Just discovered this band, man they are awesome, Chicago spawned some great bands.
