what great talens you have Ethiopia, among yr children...This is symphony for my years, soul, eyes...this is armonay -..this is Love expression & human being gift too. This is also God' gift to you Mr Habte Moges,,,Thank you , Thank you for sharing it-
Knowing there is a wealth of melody in the Ethiopian music tunes, i should ask moges that most you keep playing similar tunes range in number about 30 or so; I never seen /heard you guys playing tunes such as 80s Eferms songs,Tamirat Mollas, Merawi Yohnniss etc
Thank you very much for your support, and I'll keep it in mind with respect to work more and more on my music.I thank you too working hard and experimenting on ethiopian music.
Thank you very much for your comment.Yes,its my own arrangement with in the Ethiopian minor scale.I recorded the same music with the Walias band about 32 years ago with Girma Beyen arrangement.
I've been raised to dislike jazz for the last 13 years i've been living. They always said this music has no backbone. Screw them. This is the second ethio jazz routine i've listened to and it continues to amaze me.
YOU ALL GAVE ME THE CHANCE TO LOVE AND BE PROUD OF ETHIOPIAN MUSIC & FOR THAT I AM DEEPLY THANKFUL. PLEASE KNOW THAT YOU ARE PARTIALLY RESPONSIBLE TO MY ADDICTION OF INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC.
OMG!This is awsome! Great work. I am so proud to have musicians like these to represent Ethiopia. Dear Moges, I love your work. Please keep these videos coming. I really want to see your live event if u have any coming up. Please keep me posted.
Finding this link was tantamount to finding buried gold. Ato Moges is not only Ethiopia's premier tenorist, but also, her treasure. Your approach to Girma Beyene's composition opened a door to Ethio sax jazz and established a foundation upon which the genre could be built. There is no music as enjoyable to me as Sewenetwa, Kisseh new Wedaje, and my favorite, Anchin Messay Qonjo. Thank you for everything you've done for Ethiopian music. It's an honor to write this comment.
What are you talking about? The entire percussion arrangement is amazing, including the congas -- the bass tones and slaps were done perfectly. Plus this is no Latin groove -- it's ETHIOPIAN. Also, your underlying presumption deserves comment -- congas are originally African (from the Congo, and not, of Latin origin). This is brilliant music created by the Walias Band in 1977, in which Moges H. played both the saxophone and the flute; Keyboards, G. Beyene and Hailu Mergia; trumpet, Yohaness T.
In fact, I have now memorized the lick and played it on my clarinet, if you don't mind...haha) To your experience, what other keys work effectively with the respective Ethiopian modes (5 or so) for improv purposes?
And any other tips you can share, would be appreciated.
I specially like the improv part between 3:21 to 4:00, where you opened the chord to C#7 minor (I believe dorian to B), in the tenor sax (from Tizita C#minor) and quite cleverly came back to the main key.
What a great Music I really liked this Instrumental That was my favorites from Kebenas album. You are one of our hero Artist a legend Musician ever.(from Kebena (06)) LOL...any way Thanks Moge for posting This videos and please put some more if you have any of your works. Well done keep it up.
There should be a Ethio-Jazz festival once in a year in Ethiopia at "Meskel Adebabaye". There is so many talent in Ethiopia.
