wow never thought i would see so much negitivity on a timber frame project, where do all these morons come from! looks like green means you have to win the loto, and cut down all the trees to make these libs happy. a timber frame is one of the best and fastest ways to get a roof over your head, and time proven methods of centurys past. and even if sips are used, so what, ever hear of recycle! anyway great vid.
@advthinker You won't hear me arguing timber isn't green friendly. Highly renewable. Plant a seed or sapling, wait and done years later. As for the sips:
1) sips are made with fossil fuel "embodied energy" in the eps/poly middle. This can off gas.
2) Once the sip product is put into your home, you will have a home that is enviro friendly from that point forward.
3) Eco builders know that straw w/timber is a "true" enviro approach VS sips as a result of it's nature (no gas and can be local).
well you had the timber framing being green right (not super green mind you) but then you fucked it up with the SIP's. You can try to argue about the energy savings with SIP's but the fact that its made form non eco-friendly materials and out gas formaldehyde.
@TheDudeRulez09 You need to do a lot of homework, Dud. You don't know what you're talking about and it's ignorant knuckleheads like you that pass around bad info on top quality products acting like they know what they're talking about.. And clean your mouth.
@dgriffin94, I have been building for 25 years, knucklehead, there isn't a type of home I haven't built, including SIP's, don't try to pass your desire to make a paycheck as defense for this so called "quality product" , what sickens me is that you are still asleep at the wheel, building red but calling it green, hell green building isn't really very green just a little easier on the planet, so pleases you do some homework and learn the effects of your "quality product" on this planet.
@dgriffin94 His criticism is actually right. The concept of "embodied energy" in the EPS sips that comes from fossil fuel production is his reasoning. EPS can off-gas too. I do think SIPS have taught us something about building and are a step in the right direction. Strawboard sips filled with natural cellulose would be truly "greener". The home parts would be manually fabricated/clean energy sourced through solar, wind and sweat. This would be truly green. So go do some learning son.
those of you who complain about sips as non
eco freindly probably suport terorism by filling up your
air poluting car!! DUH

SIP panels alone are able to take the load of such a structure, am i right in thinking that your timber frame is purely an aesthetic?

A real shame to mingle these magnificent wood structures with polystyrene

Awesome, more of this type of construction should be done , save materiel, less trucks to the site, labor etc.- Green building at its best.
