  • I would've just went home and shot myself if I waz the guy who got caught with a 20 metre lead in the last 200 metre. Jesus

  • ......DAYUM!

  • that was fucking unbelievable

  • Holy...

  • 45.5 seconds.

  • MOORE BEATS THE GREAT track star TURNER AND MORNINGSIDE. i;m still mad to this day. good job to all.

  • Who was the guy who got caught????

  • Im speechless

  • this is the first time i have ever seen a obea moore video. it literally gave me chills to watch the ending. I had to watch it several times over just to make sure it was some fake video. My fastest 400 is 48.1. I could have been 50 or 60 meters ahead of this guy and we would have still met at the finish line at the same time. Amazing! This is better than Darold Williamsons indoor 4x400m race were he came from behind to win.

  • that was just amazing

  • theres no way I just witnessed that. On the final stretch I was thinking this video was improperly labeled, obviously he wont be able to pass. Sorry for my not already knowing the result Im distance

  • @xxxDAPROBLEMxxx absolutely... this was a MONSTER performance... all the stars must have lines up right for Obea... look around 3:04 he must be around 20 meters behind! in a 200!!

  • @EscapeDummy so much potential

  • @EscapeDummy wow i forgat all abou this dude!!! i remembered him but forgot his name...i ran in the 1995 penn relays and he was there too....i wondered what happened to him then i found an article on track n field news from back in 1997 then i remembered his name....then i looked him up on wikipedia....thanks for uploading!!!i wish i was that fast in high school!

  • @bakcalif Nah forState Champ in Ohio in 96 and 97 but we had National meets, Mehawks, Penn and shit like that. i was just gettin started hardbody in 95 so i wasnt competing at the big events at that time i would just travel as a athlete to watch.......I dont think he was runnin when i was became State champ!!!

  • @BIXPBS1 Oh ok. Yeah all the national meets. Oh so ur saying ud go observe athletes at big meets and Obea wud be competing there. He still ran in 96 and 97 tho.

  • i used to kick it with this dude a certain track meets back then,,, im a 2 x state champ myself and to watch him run was unbelievable. him and bryshon nellum, walter dix and John Demps, Obie Moore and chirs nellums were a few dudes that were just too much for normal highschool kids... And i was far from fukn normal still saying that...

  • Obea moore is actaully trying to make a comeback, there is a video interviewing him about this and he is trying to win a major championship or break the world record.

  • holy shit!! i thought his team was done!

  • Damn, what a talent. It sucks that he wasn't able to continue running healthily after high school. Also, I'm glad that I was able to get this vid up, found it from a high school running site with a TON of more such (state meet across several DECADES!) videos, but I cant find it now... still looking haha

  • @EscapeDummy

    dyestat.com/ATHLETICS/TRACK/track.htm

  • @EscapeDummy

    dyestat.com/ATHLETICS/TRACK/track.htm

  • @milawsell it wasn't the main dyestat site... it was hosted on dyestat by a guy in CCS in California

  • not only did he make up 2.5sec, he did it in the last 200

  • I was at this meet and saw this race. How Obea caught the guy in the last 100 m looked about as impossible in real life as it does it this video.

  • Obea went to like 3 different colleges and was on the team, even though he never ran. He went to Life University, Wallace University and one more in Atlanta.

  • he was running too fast for his body...nagging injuries caugt up wit him like hamstrings and stuff...which led to lost motivation and drugs and all that..eventaully losing it

  • what the hell! kid is a freak!

  • he turned into a drug addict

  • where did u find out that information?

  • He did start smoking weed after high school...

  • Obea Moore was one of the moore gifted sprinters ever to run the 400 meters. Its really Sad he fell off and did not do anything with it after high school. Very Sad Story with Obea Moore

  • I consistently time Obea's anchor leg at 45.3-45.4 (which, amazingly enough, is still a little slower than his sophomore PR of 45.14). What have you guys timed him at?

BTW, how tall was Obea when he graduated high school?

  • also he ran the 400 that day and i believe he got 2nd in the 200. 20.8's. a legend that never happend.sad

  • Unbelievable talent. One of the best raw talents ever actually. It's very sad that he didn't fulfill his pull potential. Unluckiness and a few bad decisions cost him big. It's sad.

  • this is almost sad to see....had all the potential in the world...but look at all the kobe's that don't make it! In every sport, for every superstar there's 100 dude's that should have 'made it'.i can only imagine whats going on in obea mind...gottta be hard for him.....

  • Throw in a chronic hamstring strain, and his girlfriend dying while he was on his comeback which threw him into depression.

It's really sad. He was probably one of the most talented sprinters to ever grace this planet. Did you know he ran a 4:24 mile, too? Unbelievable.

  • Yeah...he was unbelievable. We were in the same class. Class of 97' So I saw him run frequently when we had big meets. He was a rare specimen> We have still yet to see a person of his talents.

  • Henry had the fastest flat speed, and also the best PR (slightly), BUT Obie had the strongest finishing kick.

All 3 of them could run the the provisional qualifiying time for the U.S. Olympic trials while still in high school, but Obie was also the most consistent as a high schooler.

    Just my opinion.

  • @Visionary0001

Henry also had a great finishing kick. He was more of the sprinter (100-200) but could aslo run the 400. William Reed from PA was super strong and had a finish just as good as Thomas and Moore. I would love to line all 3 up and race them at 400 meters. Reed may have had better flat speed the Moore and was equally as strong. Moore was more versataile as he ran a 1:49.16 800 meters. Up for debate.

  • yeah, US high school track stars are unlike football or basketball stars. seems like more often than not success at that level is NOT replicated in college, pro or Olympic levels. still, i remember seeing this dude at 96 Indoor nationals in Boston. He had school records from the 100 to the mile. still impressive feats in my book.

  • Obea was so talented it was unreal...we raced their 4X4 team and the way this guy ran was just pure power. speed and endurance. You dont see runners like him often...He had such talent and let it all waste away...this is one of the more sad stories in Sports....period.

  • what every happened to him?

  • Never got any faster, that's all. Happens alot

  • You dont know what you are talking about...he stopped running you idiot. He would have gotten a lot faster. Also if he would have ran the same times in college that he ran in high school he would have won the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP AS A FRESHMAN. How much do you know about track anyway....not much I see

  • U must be stupid! He ran at Jr Nationals the year after he graduated and tried to make numerous comebacks. U bumped your head if u believe he just gave up running after HS.

  • Far from studpid....and much more talented than you....I have won Mt. Sac, Stanford open to name a few...Obea did not go to college after high school. He was not even training to compete...he just went out there and ran. If you are so smart what did he do after high school?? Who did he even run for?? You cant tell me because he did not run for a club or team....he didnt wasnt even working out everyday. Name one world class sprinter who can afford to work hard and get faster smart guy

  • And another thing....running Jr. Nationals is the same damn season as your high school senior season...dumb ass its that same summer.....How fast can you run the 400 meters I went 46.8

  • You guys so do your research......He did not go to college and run. I was going to school in the L.A. area and I saw him out at clubs often. Obea ran a litlte on his own but after his senior season did not commit himself or train hard. If he would have ran the same high school times in college he would have been the fastest in the nation.....you guys should do your research.

  • Jr National is an under 20 therefore many college freshman are there. Obea went to Life University and competed at NAIA Nationals he also went to Clark. I ran 45.95 in the open. Even if u were faster than me that wouldn't make u right.

  • he did go to college but he was plagued by injuries and personal problems{girlfriend passed away} and drop out of school a couple of times!

  • wasted talent

    :-(

my coach so much stresses to get an education..I think a few of you know what i'm talking about..

    ahh well

  • yeah it's too bad things had to go that way for obea... SO much talent

  • Thats what a 44.8 split looks like.. My boy Obea was an exceptionaly gifted runner. That was only his sophmore year and my senior year. Go Mustangs!!!!!!

  • He reminds of this kid, Anthony Dao.

  • Ah yes 1995, my senior year. I use to have a mini crush on that guy although he was shorter than me. He was truly amazing.

  • That monkey got on his back

  • Wow! That's incredible...

Saw him run in AAU Nationals in Iowa back in 95. That little guy was so powerful--The best I ever seen.

There were several guys who ran for LA Jets who were just unbelievable. Had the opportunity to spend a lot of time with the guys during USA Junior Nationals two years later. It's a shame they all fell off the map.

  • I seen Obea at the Junior olympics in San jose in 94 he was the best i ever seen in real life. Michael Johnson was like Jordan and Obea was going to be Kobe.

  • Great race. I still say the Penn Relays 2007 HSB 4*4 race was better and more exciting though. Obea Moore is indeed a legend.

  • This was a faster and more exciding race than the Penn State Relays 2007.

  • i agree, even Long Beach's prelim round was crazy

  • The reason I say that is because the excitement was restricted to that monster anchor leg by Moore. Watch the Penn relay HSB 4x4 '07 and you will be thrilled from start to finish...commentary was great too.

  • worddddd...i loved that race, the '08 version of the 4x4 wasnt too bad either

  • There is a whole generation of Southern California track athletes with an "I got smoked by Obea" story. For basketball players, it's an, "I got dunked on by Shea Cotton" story. Who knows what happened to those guys.

  • I was also at this meet. I kind of know how the person who was caught felt. Training with Obea on a daily basis wasn't an easy task, but I made both of us better. Love ya Obea & the rest of the LA Jets Boys Crew of the '90s. You all know who you are. Miss You Guys!

  • i had him @ 44.867

  • wow, first time watching this im like "no way he is catching that guy" i actually thought you had a mad a mistake and were talking about him going from 3rd to 2nd.. then i kept watching.

anyone have a GRANVILLE race video i would love to see him run

  • Exactly my thoughts! What an incredible last 150 meters!!!!

Please notice than in the first 150 meters the guy in current 3rd place was closing the gap with Obea, but later he disappeared... a pity than we couldn't see Obea growing and improving.

  • Unreal...best anchor i've ever seen in my whole life.

    Come back Obea!!

  • Like I said, I knew obea growing up. He ran for the LA jets as a kid. I seen him run the 100, 200, 400, 800 and even the mile. At 12 years old, I saw him run a 2:00 min 800 which was unbelieveable. When he was a freshman in high school, I saw him run a 4:25 mile in a league meet just to get conditioning in. I seen him run a sub 10.5 100m. this dude was one of a kind in high school track in field.

  • He had to run around 44 secs on that leg.

  • that was fuckin ridiculous he ran like a 21 sec last 200

  • i can't believe this is on here, thanks man. i was there and i've wanted to see this ever since. we were all like, "no, he couldn't possibly... wait.. oh shit!" in the 800 Granville went out too fast the first lap and died at the line. he got carted off the track!

  • I was searching for the results and found that O. More, M. Granville were a lock for the Olympics some time down the road and nothign ever happend. Sucks huh?

  • I ran against obea when he was a freshman and he set a national leading time in my race and wasn't even pushing it. He ran a 46 FLAT.

  • What is the story on Obea Moore. He was running world class times as just sophmore

  • hurt and quit in college

  • ive been lookin 4 a william obea moore vid for months. thanks for this.

  • Nice video. I'm glad this exists.

  • Obea was the best HS Track Sprinter Ever...he could run the 100m 200m 400m 800m with the best...

  • Not the 800m that is all Micheal Granville.

  • best walk down ever

  • holy moly...that was an insane comeback

  • hey does anyone have anymore obea moore videos... cuz he a beast to watch

  • WTF thats sick i saw bryshon run his 44.6 anchor last year and this completely blew that out the water..

  • Yeah Nellum at the state meet was pretty incredible

  • It would have been even greater is Nevin would not have dropped the stick for J. W. North.

  • Thank God this clip is on youtube. I was there when this happened and I can easily say this was in my top 2 greatest moments I have ever seen at a live sporting event. It's too bad the clip ends before the ENTIRE crowd starts chanting "Obea! Obea! Obea!"

  • You where there! That is crazy. How did Michael Granville lose the 800m? Because I've heard alot of stories!

  • I remember that!

  • I competed there at the JO's. That was in Lousiana. Obea was a legend he ran a 44.2 split and he was only 16. Amazing

  • They should make a movie about Obea's life.

  • absolutely amazing... too bad his career ended very quickly

  • ROFL

  • incredible

  • ok olololololol
