  • You greeks are crazy just look at your modern greek history in the last 160 years and will prove you that when foundation of the greek state macedonia and macedonian history was not implemented untill years later when the balcan countries saw opertunity to take some more land of the otoman ocupied macedonia

  • @huliganbt

Well the region of ancient Macedonia which

is in Greece, has been Greek ethnographic territory

since ancient times, that is land always inhabited by Greek peoples.

  • [Dr. Stephen Batchelor, 'The Ancient Greeks for Dummies']

"Macedonia was - and still is - a territory

of northern Greece, the ancient Macedonians were

of Greek origin and spoke a broader rougher

    dialect of Greek."

  • Macedonia had never been Greek as the modern Greeks trying intensly to claim.

In fact fact the Macedonians dispaised the ancient Greeks even though the City States was never called Greece or Greek. Today we wronly imply to the City States as Greece therefore dirtectly linking modern Greeks to the ancient City States. As we know modern Greeks have little if not at all ethnic connection with the City States.

  • @TheMsMkd

On the contrary, Modern Greeks have

a definitive ethnic connection with ancient

Greeks and Greek city states. Modern Greeks

are genetically the same people as Southern Italians

and Tuscans. Southern Italians are known descendants

of ancient Greeks since ancient Greeks heavily colonised

Southern Italy, known as 'Magna Grecia', therefore

modern Greeks are linked to ancient Greeks.

(References: Tian et al, Francalacci et al, Cavalli Sforza et al.)

  • Alexanda was a Macadonian whos father united Macadonia with greece as a foundation to the empire which Alexanda expanded. A lot like Britain; Macadonia is scotland, Greece is England, together united create a foundation fof the epic empire.

  • @d0dger91 Actually you can't draw the comparison with Scotland and England. Scots are Celts and English are Anglo-Saxons. Macedonians were ethnically a Greek tribe, that is, Macedonians were genetically the same as the other tribes of Southern Greece. A more suitable comparison between Macedonians and Athenians, for example could be between the Cornish and Welsh. Both Cornish and Welsh are Brythonic Celts both speaking the Brythonic Celtic language.
  • He didn't have dark hair FFS. He was said to be blonde, so he was certainly light haired.

  • dont fight over a queer

  • dont fight over a queer

  • No such thing as Greece before 1830 therefore no ancient Greece. If you were Macedonians and that name was so important to you, your country wouldn't be called Greece. Infect, it was 30 years ago that you changed your tune. If you did a old search on the names of towns in northern Greece you wouldn't know because you changed the names. Stupid Greeks. The whole world can see what your like. You can physically tell the difference between a Macedonian and a hell ass. It's a insult that you Greeks

  • @billytheluckyhorse Correct, the so-called 'macedonians' of FYROM are in fact the same people as Serbs and Bulgarians and are therefore Slavs who speak Bulgarian. There is thus a difference between FYRM's and Greeks. FYRM,s are Slavs who settled in the Balkans in the 8th century AD. and have NO CONNECTION with the ancient Macedonians who were a Greek tribe speaking the Greek language, worshipping Greek gods, withe Greek names of the months and Greek personal names.
  • Macedonians and Macedonia had never been Greek it is a fact that cannot be disputed, whether the Greeks like or not. The matter that part of Macedonia is in Greece today is because in 1913 they have illegally annexed it, since then they expelled, tortured, assimilated the Macedonians. For over one hundred years the Greeks have been working very hard to Hellenising the Macedonian land.

  • @mptvska

Yes, but theSlav people of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia

(FYROM), are the same people as Serbs and Bulgarians.

They are a medeival people of the 8th century AD. They have

no connection with the ancient Greek tribe of Macedonians

of the time of the Greek warrior King Alexander the Great

who were a Greek race, speaking the Greek language,

worshipping Greek gods, with Greek names of the months

and Greek names, who lived in the northern Greek kingdom

    of Macedonia.

  • [E. Badian Harvard University]

"We have now become accustomed to regarding

    the Macedonians as Northern Greeks."

Interestingly Badian said this before the discoveries at

    Vergina and Aini.

  • The ignorance of those who say Makedon was not Greek is unbelievable!

  • LEARN HISTORY.MACEDONIA IT WAS GREEK PART.

  • Besides which, this video clearly states the ancient Macedonians

were Greeks, as all Historians agree on.

  • @HaggisMacfee All history, and all serious historians will say that Makedonia was and is Greek.

  • @aietes

Funny thing is that 'TheMakGreat' has uploaded this documentary

in which it clearly infers that the Macedonians were Greeks.

  • You idiot monkeydonians, Macedonia was a greek Kingdom and there is no serious scientist that does not recognize it. Can't you see how ridiculus you are? We are Greeks because we speak the language ancient Greeks(Athenians, Spartans, Macedonians etc) spoke. How can you claim ancient Macedonian origin when you speak a slavic language, while it is well known that Macedonians spoke Greek? CAN'T YOU SEE IT????

  • @UsernameAnyAvailable All anthropologists state that the people of 'The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia' [FYROM] are a Slav people related to Bulgarians. Their haplogroups are Serbian I2a2, and the latest DNA evidence on FYROM states that FYROM's population are the same people as Serbs and Bulgarians. Also they speak west Bulgarian, that is Bulgarian with Serb words added. In other words the inhabitants of FYROM have NO CONNECTION with the ancient Greek tribe of Macedonians.
  • @HaggisMacfee

I wonder how monkeydonians can beleive such a great lie. You do not need to be a genious, to understand that Gruefski's propaganda is ridiculus. It seems that monkeydonias are sooo pathetic

  • @UsernameAnyAvailable

There are some of course in FYROM who

are educated and realise that they have no connection

with the ancient Macedonians, and realise that they

are Slavs and ethnically the same as Serbs and Bulgarians,

......something that has recently been proved by geneticists.

Unfortunately the rest are the so-called 'Macedonomaniacs'

who are happy to live a lie in their little winter wonder land

of fairy tales where they believe they're related to Alexander the Great..

  • 1)they were speaking a Greek dialect

2)they saved Greece from the persians

    3) they were paticipating in the olympic games an event where only ethnic Greeks were allowed to participate

    4) the historical part of Macedonian lis ENTIRELY within the Greek borders today , Greece doesnt need to ''occupy'' anything ,and Macedonia was never urs..before the Greeks ottomans had it and ottomans HAD UR BANANOVINA country too!

5)Alexander CONQUERED AND ENSLAVED PAEONIA the land called FYROM today..

  • Macedonia is Greece and was Greece Macedonians was Greeks ican proof it easy everyone can proof it who knows history

  • Macedonia had never been Greek, however one part of historical Macedonia is occupied by Greece since 1913, they think this gives them the right to claim Macedonia belongs to them.

  • Comment removed

  • @TheMakGreat But the ancient Kingdom of Macedonia has always been Greek ethnographic territory since ancient times, that is, territory always inhabited by Greek tribes. In fact Borza and Hammond say that Macedonia in north-west Greece was from where the Greek speaking tribes originated from, a point made clear in the Encyclopaedia Britannica, which states that, "Not only is Macedonia the birthplace of the Greek race, but also of the twelve Greek gods."
  • @TheMakGreat Your comment is moronic, Historical ancient Macedonia is 100% in Greece. Your country called 'Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia' is mistakenly called Macedonia, it was never Macedonia it was called ancient Paeonia. The ancient Paeonians may or may not have been Greeks but were ultimately Hellenised. Paeonia was Macedonian 'Dependent' terrritory, that is it was conquered territory under Macedonian administration. The modern population of FYROM are Serbo-Bulgarians.
  • Greece province of Macedonia,

    Greek commander and ancient Macedonia

Hellenic Kingdom in the Age of Democracy

Only a slav goatherder will say that macedonia and Alexander are not Greek

  • In the footsteps of Alexander the Great is the French magazine «Figaro Hors-serie» which will dedicate 115 pages to the presentation of the historical and geographical journey of Alexander the Great and ancient Macedonia, in October.

The magazine supplement in the French magazine «Figaro», will be released on October 13, during the opening day of the great exhibition in honor of the Greek commander and ancient Macedonia, in the Louvre museum.

  • “Heracles to Alexander the Great” Exhibition at Oxford’s Ashmolean Museum

A major exhibition titled “Heracles to Alexander the Great: Treasures from the Royal Capital of Macedonia, a Hellenic Kingdom in the Age of Democracy” opens next week at Oxford University’s Ashmolean Museum of Art and Archaeology.

  • Exhibition on Ancient Macedonia at the Louvre

Featured events. Exhibition In the kingdom of Alexander the Great – Ancient Greece

Special events will be held in Paris to promote the northern Greece province of Macedonia, on the sidelines of the archaeological exhibition entitled Ancient Macedonia: In the Kingdom of Alexander the Great, to be hosted at the Louvre from Oct. 13 until Jan. 16, 2012.

  • The Macedonian language was different from the Hellenic

  • @TheMsMkd

The language spoken by the ancient Macedonians

was Proto-Greek which developed into the native

macedonian language of a hybrid Aeolic/Doric

Greek dialect of the north-western Greek language.

This was later modified by Philip to Attic Greek.

  • Both Herodotus and Thucydides describe the Macedonians as foreigners, a distinct people living outside the frontiers of the Greek city-states.

E Badian concluded that, whatever the ethnic origins and the identity of the Macedonians, they were generally perceived in their own time by Greeks and themselves not to be Greek.

Badian shows that, until quite late, the Macedonians as a people were excluded from the Panhellenic festivals in which only Greeks were permitted to participate.

  • @TheMakGreat You are an idiot, and very ignorent. You should know that the name Alexander, and Phillip are comprised of greek words. Your pathetic slavic language was non existent in the day of Alexander the Great.

  • @MakGreat but Herodotus says that 'the Dorians were descending Macedonians' i.e Greeks, and also states that Alexander I declares himself to be of Greek descent. Badian states "We have now become accustomed to regarding the Macedonians as NORTHERN GREEKS" Badian makes clear that the Hellenodikai were unwilling to accept Macedonians as Greeks because they were a MONARCHICAL rule. But Ultimately the Hellenodikai did accept the Macedonians as Greeks.
  • @MakGreat

In fact Hammond tells us that "In the early 5th

century the Royal House of Macedon, 'The Temenidai',

was recognised as Greek, by the presidents of

    the Olympic Games."

  • The ancient historians as well as the explorations prove that Macedonians and the ancient Greeks were quite different in their customs. The most visible of material culture are the third and fourth century tombs recovered.

  • @mptvska According to Historians, the ancient Macedonians were of Greek stock.. Ancient Macedonia was a Greek kingdom in northern Greece, populated by people speaking the Greek language, using Greek names, Greek months of the year, with Greek place names, Greek personal names and worshipping Greek gods. The latest archaeological evidence found in the ancient Macedonian tombs in northern Greece confirm the fact that the ancient Macedonians were Northern Greeks.
  • @HaggisMacfee no, it only shows an area of Northern Greece as we know it today. Do not forget Greece occupied that particular territory of Macedonia in 1913.

As far as "other" is concerned does not imply anything, other only means the Greeks themselves, the other City States. In every literature it clearly states that the ancient so called Greeks considered the Macedonians as primature, uncivilised and barbarians. They have never mentioned that they considered them of the same people.

  • @TheMakGreat Then your lacking in a simple understanding of the English language. In the segment: "In an area of northern Greece known as Macedonia or Macedon, King Philip II ruled a population that OTHER Greeks considered inferior." The use of the word 'other' here in English grammar clearly implies Macedonians were OTHER Greeks as well. Simple English Grammar. OTHER Greeks also considered the Spartans as uncivilised Barbarians, so what??
  • @TheMakGreat the fact my friend that they was teaching you the history the way that they want it does not mean that it was the truth.try to read some international history books from all over the world and you will see the light. And by the way visit once in your life the museum in Thessaloniki and try to read something from the ancient macedonian words that you can found on artifacts.THEN you will understand that you can not.Only this can be an evidence to you that you are NOT a MAKEDONAS.

  • Comment removed

  • Haggis, you can bark as much as you want it does not make Macedonians Greek.

  • @TheMakGreat

[Professor Donald Kagan, Yale university (USA)]

"We know the [ancient] Macedonians were

fundamentally Greeks, that is to say

they were Greek speakers, and ethnically

    they were Greeks."

  • @TheMakGreat How about when Alexander himself talked about uniting all Greeks ? He meant Macedonia in that. Oh, it was part of Greece all right.

The Romans looked on Macedonians as different, but still Greek.

  • TheMakGreat Sparta had a city state structure

and had both Kings and Queens.

In fact Sparta had two Kings with their

    respective Queens. One to rule

while the other was at war.

You don't know very much about history

    do you?

  • [J R Hamilton (1972), 'Alexander the Great']

"That the [ancient] Macedonians were of

    Greek stock seems certain."

  • [N G L Hammond (1992), 'The Miracle that was Macedonia', p.206]

"As members of the Greek race, and

speakers of the Greek language, the

    ancient Macedonians shared the ability

initiate ideas and create political forms."

  • Macedonians fought for Macedonia and for the Macedonian Empire, not for some other tribe or nation.

  • [Encyclopaedia Britannica]

"Macedonia is not only considered the birth

place of the Greek race but also of the twelve Greek

    gods."

  • [David Hogarth ,'Philip and Alexander of Macedon']

"The King [of Macedon] was chief in the

first instance of a race of plain dwellers

who held themselves to be like him

    of Hellenic stock."

  • @TheMakGreat yes, spot on!

  • Exhibition on Ancient Macedonia at the Ashmolean Museum,

    Oxford University, UK, was entitled:

"FROM HERACLES TO ALEXANDER THE GREAT,

THE LEGEND OF MACEDON, AN HELLENIC KINGDOM

    IN THE AGE OF DEMOCRACY."

  • [ Richard Stoneman, 'Alexander the Great' p.14] "In favour of the Greek identity of the ancient Macedonians is what we know of their language, their place names, names of the months, and many of their peersonal names, especially Royal names, which are GREEK IN ROOTS AND FORM. This suggests that they did not merely use Greek as a lingua franca but spoke it as natives (though with a local accent.....")
  • [ Paul Cartledge, Professor of Greek,

    Cambridge University, 'The Greeks

    Crucible of Civilisation.']

"Alexander was not the FIRST GREEK to

recieve divine honours in his lifetime, but the

precedents were very few, and of course,

    inevitably inexact." (Ch.15, p.228)

" Macedon, had become the undisputed single

Great power of the Greek world."(Ch.13, pp.203-204)

  • [David Sacks (1995), 'A Dictionary of the

    ancient Greek world." Oxford University]

    "Historians refer to this enlarged

Greek society as the Hellenistic world.

At the start of his reign, the 20 year

old Alexander was the crowned king

of only Macedon - a crude Greek Kingdom

of mainland Greece. His mother, Olympias

came from the ruling clan of the north-western

    Greek region of Epirus."

  • @HaggisMacfee stop the lies. The documentary clearily says Macedonians fought for Macedonia for a Macedonian Empire

  • @TheMakGreat

    I'm just quoting Historians.

The Macedonian Empire was a Hellenic Empire.

    as Paul Cartledge says.

"Historians refer to this enlarged GREEK SOCIETY

    as the HELLENISTICWORLD."

(David Sacks, 'A Dictionary of the Ancient Greek world.")

  • [N G L Hammond]

"At the end of the bronze age,

a residue of Greek tribes stayed

behind in Southern Macedonia, one of

    these the 'Makedones' occupied Aegae

and expanded into the coastal plains

of lower Macedonia. In the early 5th

century, the Royal House of Macedon

    the 'Temenidae' was recognised as

Greek by the presidents of the Olympic Games."

  • [H.Bengston (1988) 'A History of Greece', p.415]

    "The majority of Historians have

    correctly argued for the Hellenic

    origins of [ancient] Macedonians,

and that they should be included

in the group of north-western Greek tribes."

  • [John V A Fine, 'The Ancient Greeks, a Critical History',

    Harvard University press,1983, pp.605-608]

    "Modern Scholars now almost

in the Pindus region migrated eastwards."

  • [National Geographic Magazine, 'The Search for Cleopatra ']

"Cleopatra VII was born in Egypt,

long line of GREEK KINGS AND QUEENS,

who had ruled Egypt for nearly 300 years,

the Ptolemies of Macedonia, are one of

    Histories most Flamboyant Dynasties........"

  • @HaggisMacfee you mean she was Macedonian. City States never had any king or Queens.

  • @TheMakGreat

Actually Sparta had Kings and Queens.and Sparta was

a City state. Macedonia was a Hellenic Kingdom

  • @TheMakGreat David H Levinson, 'Encyclopaedia Ancient Cultures' p. 239] "It should be noted that there is NO CONNECTION between the Macedonians of the time of Alexander the Great who were a Hellenic (Greek) tribe, and the so-called 'macedonians' of today of the 'Republic of macedonia' [FYROM] who are of Slavic origin and related to the Bulgarians."
