To sleep in a bed, the following criteria must be met: The sun must not be visible (or just barely) Stand to the side of the bed (XX  O, X being bed O being you)

A good idea but not a must is to have your bed in a well lit, enclosed area so mobs will not wake you.

There's a weird glitch with the beds that make it so when you place the bed you have to walk away from it a bit before you can go back and sleep. Hope this helps!

I tested out what you did with the bed. You can be anywhere with the bed when you sleep but you can't stand on it when you want to go in the bed. You must be on the ground when you right click. Then your person will sleep and wake up in the morning.
