That forward thrust kick was cool looking, but you'd never pull that move off in a pro fight, too damn slow and recovery time was PAINFUL.

I agree. Ryu is Japanese, and they focus mainly on technique and power, not a big variety or fancy moves. Ryu has always stayed true to that and thats why Ryu's moves were usually stronger than Ken's and his hurricane knocked you down. So his side kick and shin shoryuken(both of which are "power" moves) is all he needs. Let's keep it civil!

Ryu doesnt need anything, hes EASY to use, he has ALOT of ways to combo ultra, and his normals are all above average. Or are u gonna tell me it dont piss u off that ryus jumping strong beats bisons jumping strong CLEAN and also combos into ultra. And lets not mention the fact that the short cuts help him ALOT, mashing dps is almost always a good idea and u can super cancel or fadc into ultra. THe only things he should get is a new ultra, and even then he will prob get 100 more ways to combo it.
I think he should have Metsu Hadouken for his super, the shinku tatsumaki for his ultra, and maybe give him a Denjin for his other ultra. Denjin was just too bad ass!
i have no problems actually fighting ryu but what i do have a problem with is chasing them down its wack when they sit on there spamming an then do shoryuken to back u up but the only thing they should change about ryu is how u can do the ultra right after his light shoryuken
As for Imporvements to Ryu, The Blade Kick would be cool, But that might make him a little overpowered. They probably won't add it.
The Shinkuu Tatsumaki is an EX, and it works that way, really. I think they should give him the Metsu Shoryuken that he had in SFA3 as his 2nd Ultra, and make it do good damage this time.
LOL, Udon SF comic. Nice. Ken is better at the Shoryuken than Ryu, but I don't think he mastered it. He added some fire and flashiness, but the masters of their style are Gouki and Gouken.
Ryu kills Bison with a Shoryuken in his A3 ending too, lol.
And the mastered form of the Shoryuken is the Shin Shoryuken. Shoryureppa and Shinryuken are powerful variations on the move.

I think Ryu is quite balanced the way things are now and probably doesn't need any real improvements , since he does well already especially in tournaments and tiers.
But since everyone is getting a second ultra I'd rather see the super hurricane kick than the shin-sho-ryu-ken.
About Ryu and Ken's dragon punches . Yeah Ken's are better if you get all the hits in ..... but Ryu's more about raw power / focused pure chi in a single hit ... than multiple hits with flames

To me the flames on kens dragon punch just represent his personality, all flashy, style but no substance.
Gouken's ultra used to be ryu's special on older games, and i'm pretty sure that shoryuken is better than kens.
Ken is much smoother and easier to use than ryu, but ryu is always compared as superior (hence the reason bison wanted ryu before ken in the animated movie).
Also lets not forget Akuma as a master. His shoryuken ripped a boat in half at the end of third strike :P

I can't prove it, but I was messing around spamming that and I noticed ken just felt slower and he was getting punished quite a bit more. ryu seemed to do the next dragon punch before he came down from the first. Ryu should not be nerfd for buffd in SSF4. The character balance right now is right for the game. Justin Wong said it him self after he won a tournament with Fei Long, it just takes hard work to beat high tier characters, so people need to stop bitching about he overpowered a character is. Ryu is fine how he is. There's no need for his kick from 3s cuz people would it coming from a mile away cuz of the slow start up.
It seems like they gave his moves from 3rd Strike to Gouken. Gouken's focus is like Ryu's HCF kick move & of course, the Shin-Shoryuken is what Ryu had in SFIII AND Capcom vs. SNK.
The combo when Ryu would HCF kick you, make you hit the wall & follow up with a Shoryuken was cool.
That whole sequence would be a good idea as a new ultra. I think I'd prefer THAT over the Shinku Hurricane or the Shin-Shoryuken...
They need to bring back fierce sweep kick into fire ball a good way to keep Bolrog, Zangief away as well as bring back the donkey kick, medium kick while holding forward. great for hoping over Guiles sonic boom and Blanka slide.
It I would be cool if they add another boss. Also re-do the animated cut scenes which were terrible, and do them like the manga, or even stick with that awesome splash art style they use in the for the intro.

i can agree with the 3rd strike kick , but tbh they need to make his next ultra not so easy to land, i mean total noobs can knock u off with a dragon punch mid air and knock u into an ultra, im not saying make it impossible but, make it more of a challenge.

Ryu doesn't really need anything upped he is fine, but maybe he can get his "Fake Fireball" back. I think he should get a real alt costume instead of a torn up costume.

ryu needs an attack to help him gain ground and move forward, just a normal. i like him the way he is except for that....cause i have a really hard time in G1 trying to rush down with him. ken's got the step kick and akuma's got the double roundhouse so ryu u needs something to me. maybe the kick from 3rd strike free was talking about.

Ryu did used to have a hop kick in Alpha and CvS2... it was something like F + MK and it looked like a single frame of the Tatsumaki

if everyone is getting a 2nd ultra in ss4 then ryu should get the super uppercut he has in mvc2. I think that would make him unstoppable tho. I'm waitin on you to make an how to improve bison video cause god knows he needs lots of improvment.

An improvement that ssf4 should have is that Gouken can have a shoryuken special move, just a regular one. He only has a shoryuken he does a super or a ultra.

I think Ryu is quite balanced the way things are now and probably doesn't need any real improvements , since he does well already especially in tournaments and tiers.
But since everyone is getting a second ultra I'd rather see the super hurricane kick than the shin-sho-ryu-ken.
About Ryu and Ken's dragon punches . Yeah Ken's are better if you get all the hits in ..... but Ryu's more about raw power / focused pure chi in a single hit ... than multiple hits with flames

To me the flames on kens dragon punch just represent his personality, all flashy, style but no substance.
Gouken's ultra used to be ryu's special on older games, and i'm pretty sure that shoryuken is better than kens.
Ken is much smoother and easier to use than ryu, but ryu is always compared as superior (hence the reason bison wanted ryu before ken in the animated movie).
Also lets not forget Akuma as a master. His shoryuken ripped a boat in half at the end of third strike :P

i really like the kick from 3rd strike that really rounded ryu out imo it was such a great move and gave him more options now with the ultra system the sky is the limit for that ex kick it could be so awesome, also i really liked the charge fireball with the stun from 3rd strike maby they could change his current ultra to that to make it different to his super, because right now they are basicly the same move one ends combo's and one is more of a juggle into move

ryu's light dragon punch has less downtime then kens. I can't prove it, but I was messing around spamming that and I noticed ken just felt slower and he was getting punished quite a bit more. ryu seemed to do the next dragon punch before he came down from the first. I beat a few people that way too rofl

Ken's Shoryuken is definately awsome.
Ryu's Hadouken is more like Goukens, while Ken's shoryuken is more like Akumas.
Thats supposed to be a reference to how Gouken and Akuma turned out to be different.

Ryu should not be nerfd for buffd in SSF4. The character balance right now is right for the game. Justin Wong said it him self after he won a tournament with Fei Long, it just takes hard work to beat high tier characters, so people need to stop bitching about he overpowered a character is. Ryu is fine how he is. There's no need for his kick from 3s cuz people would it coming from a mile away cuz of the slow start up.

It seems like they gave his moves from 3rd Strike to Gouken. Gouken's focus is like Ryu's HCF kick move & of course, the Shin-Shoryuken is what Ryu had in SFIII AND Capcom vs. SNK.
The combo when Ryu would HCF kick you, make you hit the wall & follow up with a Shoryuken was cool.
That whole sequence would be a good idea as a new ultra. I think I'd prefer THAT over the Shinku Hurricane or the Shin-Shoryuken...

They need to bring back fierce sweep kick into fire ball a good way to keep Bolrog, Zangief away as well as bring back the donkey kick, medium kick while holding forward. great for hoping over Guiles sonic boom and Blanka slide.

Yeah, I definately missed the side kick the most from Third Strike. And I think an Ultra Hurricane Kick would be good too. But as long as the side kick is included, I'll be happy.

I like ryu the way he is, i'd like the shoryuken for him though, like in third strike. Only person that needs adjustments is sagat, he's seriously unbalanced, especially on a laggy connection he can exploit online play like no other.

True about the Shoryuken, I am not even trying to argue about that. But about my main man, Ryu, all I need the kick you were talking about that he bounces you off the wall. A better Ultra, too. I don't really like all these fireball based supers and ultras.
One thing that would be nice is to give him that slanting Akuma kick when he jumps and then slants into you. That is a sweet kick.
