I love this game, could never beat it, but I always remember the commercial for Decent 3 at the beginning, still works on Vista and Win7 too. Although as a game, I like Star Trek Star Ship Creator Deluxe way more, own and still play that too. Best way I can have my own Voyager since it don't really exist.
Meh . . . I'd rather go to Hogwarts than this school . . . Starfleet Academy's campus looks like one of those freakin' for-profit colleges like Phoenix University or what-not . . .
@DaftSwank So you rather learn magic, then fly in a space ship shooting lasers (phasers), and meeting alien life? I wouldn't need to think twice, I'd go in space.
@KITT171 Yeah? What makes you so sure I couldn't fly into space, meet alien life, and boldy go where no one's gone before using magic? Also, Hogwarts would kick Starfleet Academy's ass in a Quidditch match, hands down . . .
for a windows 95 game it had really good graphics for the day, but then windows 95 changed everything, and made home pc's popular ..even more so then 3.1
I love Microsoft.. their new surface 2 looks awesome
@evilmonkeyinacloset So do you want those super cool effects of a phaser or warp engine warming up, or a Klingon battle cruiser exploding, or a Romuland Warbird decloaking or not?
God I used to love this game. I played it for hours on end. One time I had just completed a mission for the first time after playing it like 20 times in a row. But after the battle the warp nacelles were blown away. Didn't want to have to do it again, so I set out on impulse and just let it run, near 12 hours later I made it back to the station.
Interplay have made the finest Star Trek games to date i say, My favourite has to be Klingon Academy Wow what a game espically with all the filming they did it was like a Undiscovered Country prequel. Its a pitty Interplay aren't still around.

This is BS. There isn't anywhere near enough real estate in San Francisco for such a large open campus. I am sure in the 23rd century SF real estate prices will only be more expensive.
@RealisticEndings In the Star Trek future there seems to be more interest in war than anything else, so I really would hope our future does not turn out to be this. I would rather see exploration instead dumb space battles. So I don't think your vision is any more enlightened than mine.
@korwinblue You mean the Eugenics War. Yea, whatever happen to that. Maybe this is the Forgotten War that I hear about every so often. Personally I have hard time believing that Ricardo Montalban could ever start a war on his own.
Are you fucking kidding? Star Trek is all about exploration, that's the entire nature of the show..Starfleet can't exactly help it when hostile aliens attack.
@CynicalVision I don't know whether the Religious Right lunatics or trekkie fans are worse. They both live in an alternate universe and worship falsities. Star Trek sucks because it uses the concept of the MILITARY to "explore". That's not the future I want and really don't think we will ever see a future like this. It's BS.
@marcparella - actually Marc, most Trekkors live in the real world as do Christians. Star Trek is enjoyable sci-fi fantasy that incorporate everyday human issues in its story lines which is one of the primary reasons it's so popular.
I agree. Whenever you commit a crime and someone asks "Who did it?" The reply will always be "Donowho" and they'd assume you're saying "dunno who" and carry on. Hehe.
LOL..I just realized...what's with San Francisco? Starfleet Academy is in San Fran, and Atlantis SGA series end had Atlantis land in the San Fran harbor. hmmmmmm........interesting!
Protocols. There are several areas around Star fleet and Star fleet academy that are protected by shields to prevent enemy or terrorists from beaming in.
I remember this game when it came out...it was a blast....and it still looks good by todays standards. I want to go to the stars....whos with me?? ;-)
To pal8383, it should work just find if you run it in "Compatibility Mode". All you have to do it right click the SFA shortcut and click properties. Then, press the compatibility tab, and select to run in compatibiliy with Windows 95.
I still have the original discs and the expansion "checkhovs lost missions" sitting right in front of me ;-) If youd like a copy of the original discs id be happy to do them for you
It was a pretty good game. Bad news, I can no longer install the game. Don't know why though. When I get to the installation progress screen, it just freezes.
I loved this game, it was great for it's time. The only disadvantage was the lack of the view of outside the ship. Anyway the Interplay had few nice Trek games, too bad they don't exist anymore.
"Yes they had good games, especially their space combat sims, I naver saw a good space combat sim since their're gone ..."
starfleet & klingon academy were both great game (with latter being also better) but in terms of space-combat-sim i find "bridge commander" >> especially with the "kobayashi maru" mod which gives you an extra of ~60 ships ...
nonetheless this game was kickass, captured the movie era perfectly
I was the Director of SFA - just want to thank you for the good job you've done of transferring to video.
FYI, the reason the original movie sequences are so difficult to transfer electronically is that Interplay used their own encoding software - which also had the by-product of degrading the picture quality....
@martind1000 Great job on that game! It must be gratifying to know that over a decade later, the fruits of your labour are still being enjoyed and appreciated :)
Where did you get this??!! I love it; I heard awhile ago that there was a series but never again until this popped up.... I would like to be able to see the entire thing, thanks for posting it :)
I tried recording the mission with Jacob McNeil, using fraps, but unfortunatly, the video just turned out jumpy, the audio was fine, but the video wasn't. :(
very cool

I must admit, I Did love this game on the PC, heh
Although the expansion sucked, heh (Chekov's lost missions or something).
I also hated the fact you couldn't destroy the darn starbase at the beginning of each mission :P
Did anyone try the network play mode?
