@PokemonExpert96 no, actually it is beautiful. He got to go where we allw ant to go eventually, at the right hand of Father. He just got there a little sooner than the rest of us.
my favorite Christian artist and my favorite video of him singing. Love Rich Mullins! Had a chance to tour with LifeSong Choir this summer in Ireland for 10 days. Thought of Rich and this song quite often. God is a mighty king!
religion is man's attempt to reach God and, as Marx said, really IS the "opiate of the people." but...when you're talking about FAITH and RELATIONSHIP with God through His One and Only Son, Jesus Christ, that's COMPLETELY DIFFERENT! that's not Man trying to reach God, that's God laying down His own life to reach Man. nobody knew that better than Rich and nobody could say it like he could. Glad you're home, friend, but we could use a few more like you down here! may we all learn what you knew.
Okay, I am currently in Ireland, and just a few days ago I went the these Cliffs (The Cliffs of Moher), it was breathless......
I saw the edge where Rich is standing, but they don't allow access to it, but at other places I was able to get to the edge. The song couldn't be closer to describing Ireland and Scotland.
I took my fiddle along with me and played the Jig part of this song, and yes I recorded it with my camera. When I get back to the states I'll try to post it here on you-tube. :)
@IrishRagamuffin If you do upload that footage, be sure to mark it as a response to this video. I and many others, I'm sure, would like to see those cliffs and any other places you would like to share. Sounds like you had a good time, and thanks for commenting and sharing!
@IrishRagamuffin Sorry for the delay; was busy offline. The response shows up, though, at least when I look up this video on the My Videos page. However, I'm not seeing it when I pull up the video to view it under normal conditions. Weird. I'll do a little digging when I get some free time and see what I can turn up.
I *did* see the video, though, and it was cool. Thanks for taking the time to upload it and correspond with me about it. Kudos to you.
@BenW783a When you scroll down farther down on the main page you can see it; maybe you-tube changed how they show up, it used to be up just below the video. Thank you again for the invitation to post it, even if it's quite rough around the edges. :)
I remember listening to this, along with other songs by Rich Mullins, when I was younger. I get chills every time I watch this music video. The lyrics are awesome, the music amazing, and the scenery gorgeous. Great idea showing it in your humanities class. Thanks for posting! :)
Impossible to watch this video without thinking about the importance of praising God for all that He has done that we take for granted. Makes our daily routines and concerns seem less and less as we look to the more important things.
Rich wasn't influenced by the music the most Christian artists seek. His message was all focused on the Almighty. He gave all he had to those in need, and only took what he needed to live.
To go into a secluded church, away from distractions, to write the Jesus records, tells me more of his legacy to bring heaven home than his accomplishments.
Very few Christian artists today were as humble as him and describing in his lyrics.
@n9wff You are right on point. I've met a few artists that are like Rich in a way. Lecrae is a christian rap artist who performs for little money and desires that people not see him, but see God through his music. However, rap isn't the best way to reach everyone, so I wish there were more people like these two in all aspects of christian music nowadays.
rich mullins loved the lord and i wish he could have made more music but God called him home which makes me happy cause he won his reward and is with jesus.
Mathew 10:32 Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven
If anyone is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels. Luke 9:26
As Christians we should not be afraid to speak the truth and praise his name.
And that's what was so great about Rich Mullins, AzureMonk... Mullins wrote, sang, & produced "Jesus Music" WITHOUT it sounding like "Jesus Music" -- Without it being "in-your-face," or "down-your-throat" or "do-this-or-you'll-go-to-hell" -- It was his honest insight into the way he felt things were, and how he felt they should be, while also understanding his own shortcomings.
Most all of Mullins' music is like this, in its simplicity, and its sound.......
If you liked this song, you really should check out the album it came off of: A Liturgy, A Legacy, & A Ragamuffin Band (1993). Most of the songs from that album have the same "feel" as the song "The Color Green." I think you'd like it, if you haven't heard the album already.
:) I think what AM was getting at was the fact that RM's music doesn't sound like the cookie cutter "Jesus Music" we hear so much today, & that he was genuinely moved by it. ("... the passion in his voice, lyrics & music is wonderful.").
I think it takes a lot of guts to admit that, especially in an open forum like this.
I think he was very open, honest & truthful in his approach towards the situation, and I have to tip my hat to him for that.
Well, I often think that Jesus music isn't "relevant" to those who aren't Christian-and they're the ones that need to hear the message more than believers. I mean, U2 isn't typically classified as a "Christian" band, but have probably made a bigger impact on the world than any CCM artist and they are open about their faith. Mullins seems to have the same passion as the late, great, Mark Heard.
I haven't heard this song since I was little! I seriously don't think there's ever been born a more incredible and poetic song writer than Rich Mullins. Even the instruments in his songs leave me breathless, but his lyrics are what really get me... some of his songs that aren't even sad still make me cry because they're just so beautiful.
thanks for the clip. i've been listening to more of rm's songs lately. the lyrics are a blessing n even now a fresh take on worship. i 2nd the kudos to sony. too many "christian" artists follow suit w their labels blanket banning on yt. i'll be on itunes buying more of rm's catalog than of the current flavor o the month. chk out our playlists n b blessed.
Absolutely a beautiful song...very moving. I always used to dance around my living room to this song when my Dad played it. I love the scenery shots in this video of Ireland...and I can't believe that I get the chance to go there on a mission trip this summer! :) Rich was a fantastic artist!
Am currently reading An Arrow Pointing to Heaven. Before I had even read what you worte about the coat not being his, I just knew it wasn't. With his vow of poverty, I knew he wouldn't have a coat like that. What an inspiration!
Unless my memory fails, this video was directed by Steve Taylor, also of CCM fame. The overcoat belonged to Taylor as Mullins had forgotten to bring one. I think it was Taylor's idea to shoot "The Color Green" mostly in B&W.
This and "Creed" are my favorite videos of all time in any genre.
I have been listening to Rich Mullins music for decades is this is the first song I heard. I think its great you managed to stun a class of Atheists with it and I hope his legacy lives on for years to come...
However, this happens to be one of the craziest music videos I have ever seen, not necessarily bad, just very strange!
my favorite song about my favorite place by my favorite and the most brillant songsmith in all modern Christian music... I miss you Rich and I just wish there were more like you, but thanks for leaving us a legacy of music and words to ponder and struggle with!
I just now read the full info (I watch this video a LOT). How cool is it that you showed this to a class full of mostly non-believers?! Wow. I'm sure they were impressed/awed, I mean, how could you not be? Kudos.
Hey, thanks. I really wished they were video taping the class that day: Not only would you have gotten to see the reaction (or non-reaction as was mostly the case), but you would have also seen the biggest BS intro of all-time.
I'm not kidding; I may as well have literally pulled my introduction out of my ass, because I had absolutely no clue what I was supposed to do or say...
So I was just, as the popular saying, "myself," and gave a "quick-n-dirty explanation on why I liked it, and how this is what religious music and accompanying music videos were supposed to be like.
After class, my sister came up to me—in front of the entire class, as they were mostly still assembled and quiet—and said loudly, Thatll do, pig, after the movie Babe. It was her way of both congratulating me on my BS achievement and getting back at me for always saying the thatll do, pig quote to her in public.
I think I heard it on the Homeless Man DVD (You can find it floating around YT). I'll go back through my Mullins collection and see if I can find it again.
'Tis...I just saw his gravesite yesterday (Hollansburg, OH)... buried next to his baby brother, and his father John Mullins. His mother Neva Mullins is apparently still alive.
This, too, is my favorite Rich Mullins song/video!
It's more like 3:34-3:38, depending on the stream. If you can't spot it, reply to this message and I'll tell you (Don't want to spoil it for you just in case).
It's hard to spot, especially as crappy as YT's seek bar is most of the time, but in the shot we're talking about, Rich Mullins is standing in front of a building that says "Mullins."
