We're not all that selective. I do know there is usually a small group that doesn't make it in every year, but it largely depends on how many people are auditioning on each instrument vs. how many spots there are for that instrument.

Just make sure you know the piece you are going to play pretty well when you go to the audition. They're just looking to see if you know your way around your instrument, you don't have to be an expert. If I remember right, the sight reading piece I was given was a pretty typical marching band/pep band song, so if you can play that level of music you'll be just fine.

you're damn right... my dad is gonna march this day after tomorrow with the alumni band... how many schools have an alumni band big and dedicated enough to march the pre-game show by themselves? Iowa is the only one i know of. GO HAWKS!!!!!!

Not to rain on your parade but Ohio State's Alumni Band has been doing it since the late '60's....approaching 800 returning Bandsmen. BTW, thanks for knocking OFF Penn State...a great win for your Program.
