  • customknives . webs . com - i just started a website for the knives i sell

  • make peace in afganistan american, dutch, german and all the other soldiers!

  • Awesome! Did you hand sand down to a fine grit before polishing? What kind of compound did you use? Is the handle Micarta?

  • Thanks. Yes, I hand sand down to the fine grit, but I don't polish. If I need to get real shinny, I'll go up to 2000 grit sand paper. But I like satan finish, so I go up to about 220 grit. The handle is hand painted wood.

  • Cool. Did you use a disk grinder the whole time for your bevels or did you actually use a belt grinder at one point? BTW.. I love your strider knife on your website.

  • Your right. I use only a grinder on my bevels. That's just my way. Some of my bevels can't be done with a belt sander.

  • *watches you use the grinder with no glasses* * that's imitatable!*

    3 hours later.....

*at hospital getting shit picked out of my eyes*

  • Just did that for the cameras. I probably should because somebody will see me do that and immitate it, and that would be bad. Some kid... Chris

  • indeed.

  • caveman have you looked at his other knives? He doesnt just go for the american look, this knife he was making as a tribute to our soldiers. ArcherOut this knife is unbelievabe a definite 5/5, I look forward to purchasing your products in the future!

  • Thank you brother for the clarification to Caveman. I'm patriotic like no other, but I try not to go overboard with it. Chris

  • pretty kickass knife, I dont like the handle but thats what makes us different. You like america and I like the woods, so a more natural look works better for me

  • what wonders you work with an angle grinder. You did put heart into this knife and that is all we can ask for and that is the best we can recieve. I am curious what grinder do you use/recommend?

  • I use a Bosch 4 inch angle grinder, with 40 and 80 grit grinding wheels, and a 40 grit cut off wheels. Then 3 different grits of sandpaper which is 40, 80, 120 grit. Don't let anybody tell you that you can't do this with a grinder. I've got a whole shop in one hand. Just do it slow until you get use to it. Thanks for watching. Chris

  • wow thanks for the quick reply! I think i'll have to go out and pick one up as I have a few pieces of pre heat treated 1050 in my basement.

  • that is what i have been using:) made several bowies and a kukri just using a Grinder...

  • You the man, ED. There needs to be more people like you in the world! Chris

  • Occasionally I get asked about my knife making techniques, so here it goes: My web site explains the type of steel, normalizing, heat hardening, heat tempering, temperatures used, quenching, non-magnetizing, file testing for hardness, etc. All the important steps are taken to ensure it is a quality blade that will last. These steps are accepted methods that have been used for hundreds of years.

  • holy shit thats just awesome

  • Totally... just kidding. Thanks a lot. Chris

  • A custom knife was just made with an angle grinder in the video, all knife makers have their own methods which they like, belt grinders are often favoured, but angle grinders, bench grinders, will work and alot of people favour them, heck you can grind and profile a knife with just a hack saw and a file.

  • WOW, That knife is F#*king Awesome, 5/5 Chris, great video too, really cool.
