Beastwars from 97 had Robots changing into organic animals, over sized insects and dinosaurs is what took a original horizon step from the 1980's Transformer series.
the thing you have to realize about these videos, i think, is that you cant assume that what he says just within the context of it represents all of his thoughts on the subject. i wasnt even born til the decade was almost over but damn it seems like it sucked and definitely brought us to the shit we have today. it seems like the only thing good about the 90's was video games and i guess the progress of technology overall. yeah there was good metal and movies but they were the exception not the r
Woah woah woah. The 90's gave us some bitchin Death albums, every good black metal album which wasn't Bathory or Celtic Frost, AND FUCKING THIEF. Now I'll agree completely, people are way too nostalgic about it, but it wasn't some kind of black hole from which nothing good was ever spawned.
I totally agree with you. Not a big fan of the 90s either. Especially not the music. I was 14 in 1998 and MTV and the radio in my country would not stop playing those awful fucking boybands.
For the sake of fairness not all entertainment in the 90s was bad and forgettable especially in music. But we should thank the british and european artists and bands for that like the cranberries, oasis, blur, the verve, radiohead, the corrs, REM, etc... And I also was born in the 80s and what you said was all true. I havent even remember anything from the 90s if not for the web. BTW. Anyone knew Wet wet wet and michael learns to rock? Thats the 90s for you
1990's spawned some of the best kids movies ever. 1990's had the best cartoons. 1990's made some the best video games. 1990's was probably America's greatest decade ever.
Also, "anime that's more about sobbing into your pillow instead of tearing into the bad guy's sternum." For one, let's take the codifier of that genre: "Neon Genesis Evangelion." Now I wanna say that show was 40% destroying monsters. Let's just be fair here. Plus, there's an important lesson to be learned from shows like that, especially the many dedicated to investigating mental illness, such as "NGE". The so-very-true existentialist premise that sometimes the enemy is you.
After Kurt Cobain died, the 90's went to shit, no thanks to Nickelback and Creed. Then Dave Grohl formed Foo Fighters. And it's been smooth sailing for me all the way.
Nice to know some people would consider Cowboy Bebop as good. Astro Boy original and the 80's version was good Japanese cartoons. Cowboy Bebop was a waste of cartoon network space.
Not to sound too much like John Madden, guys our age grew up in the 90s (I'm 24) so it would seem logical that a good portion of the internet (filled with our 20 something friends) is bound to look back on the 90s with fondly, even if that is a charitable fashion of viewing the decade as a whole (the late 90s SUCKED musically, save for bands like Karp and Tight Bros from Way Back When). On a slightly different note, you don't like Alice in Chains?
Touchy, touchy. =( The whole argument gets kindof pointless as most decades are more representative of the previous one in their early years. E.g. A lot of so called 90's bands started off in the 80's: COC, STP, Soundgarden. They just didn't "make it" til the 90's. But I mostly think of the Damned in their Damned, Damned, Damned era, original lineup, punk rock identity. Not their 80's Gothy guise. I suppose I was misled by your mentioning them as 80's bands who were not 1 hit wonders? Silly me.
@RetroGamingGuide: I don't think I have ever heard the names of the Damned and Phil Collins coupled together like that. Mind = Blown. Lemme try this: Hall and Oates and Suicidal Tendencies, Lionel Ritchie and the Circle Jerks. Whoa! Trippy. Aren't all of them (except ST) technically from the 70's though? I know the Damned are.
Then again, havent heard much from tears for fears either.
Let me clarify:There are groups in the 80s that were really good, and continued to make music and got a rep, then there are others who weren-t that good who made music and disappeared.
@RetroGamingGuide the mid to late 80s was a evolution in gaming, making games more complex.I happen to love zelda series, and have since 1987,which is when it came out.
Tina turner started much earlier, but thunder dome was one of the things of the 80s that is recognized, along with michael jackson and prince.
Tom petty was also doing a lot in the 80-s,but he started in the late 70s.
Queen started in the early 70s,became popular in the mid 70s and died in 1991.
I am a huge fan of rem,and have been since the 80s.
I even liked duran duran to some point, but not all of duran duran-s music was equally good.
What about rick astley? rick astley is a piece of fucking shit for 80s music.
Also:don-t forget that some great games also came out in the 90s,like:a link to the past, ultima underworld, final fantasy 4 and 6,super metroid, super contra, resident evil 1 and 3,and more.
@RetroGamingGuide I never said all games are shit, read what i said again.
I said:not all games are equally brilliant, but there were a lot of brilliant games coming out in the 80-s.
Some are also legendary, like:Pong and galaga.
As for phil collins:I didn-t mean him as a one hit wonder,i mean that he wasnt always good.Phil collins made a lot of songs that were melodramatic and cliche.
Personally:I like queen and rem and even the old genesis, lead by peter gabriel better.
@RetroGamingGuide Bad games always existed, and probably always will.
The difference is:Today we possibly might have more of both good and bad, because more comes out.I haven-t played superman 64 or batman 1 and 2 on the nes,or the batman on snes.i know this much:Arkham asylum has really fluent fighting, and because of this, its fun as hell to beat up enemies.
80-s at moments could excuse itself at times for limited technology ,and being relatively new.
New new games of today have less excuse for having crappy controls, because we have so many different types of controls that are made to improve response and jumping.
Thats not to say some games can excuse games like kid icarus,a game that had not bad controls, but the difficulty was a bit too high.
@RetroGamingGuide You can also trust my word,i am possibly been playing longer than razorfist.I did a lot of gaming in the 80-s 90-s 2000s.
Difference is:I can account for games from 1985 and up.The games for the 80-s were still establishing themselves and their niche areas.By the time a lot of the young gamers who play online fps games, the genres have already more than established themselves.
The games from the 80-s with bad controls excused themselves due to being new.
@RetroGamingGuide just because its part of the 80-s,doesn-t mean its good.
Zelda 2 adventure of link was inferior compared to zelda 1 and a link to the past.
Also:there are the ljn games which are known for being crappy.
You got games like:The first x men game. Also:remember the first castlevania? controls were way better in the 90-s.Not saying it was bad for its time, but there were games that were easier to maneuver.Mario 1 didn-t kill you off even half as much times.
I get really sick of hearing people call some anime they saw when they were kids or that is obviously derivative the only good anime in existence. Usually, it's DBZ, Pokemon, Fist of the North Star, or Evangelion. It's as though they see that and Lucky Star, and assume every other anime is the same as Lucky Star. I'll give razorfist a little credit for at least naming one that probably took a little more thought to come up with, but Ronin Warriors is still nothing that stands out.
You should stop being nostalgic about the 80's. In fact nobody should feel nostalgia when it comes to any decade. I can understand being nostalgic about specific things, but rating decades, it's just stupid. It makes you sound like Game Overthinker who thinks that any game created post 1989 equals shit. Don't get eaten by your own nostalgia.
The only anime worth watching was created in 80s ? What about Cowboy Bebop ? Monster ? Samurai Champlo ? Anime does not equal only Bleach or Naruto. Sure most of anime is shit. Most games are shit. Most movies are shit too. It's easier to produce shit because it requires minimal to no effort. Also Batman TAS was victim of political correctness ? How ? It handled some serious subiects, when only controversial thing about He-Man was homoerotic subtext.
Hey man. I just discovered you through Asalieri, and found this particular video pretty hilarious, although I do disagree with it to some level (but that's the glory of opinion, right?) You mentioned that kid who's nostalgic for the late '90s, and I laughed my ass off. Even back when I was 11 years old in '97, I knew the late '90s blew hard.
However, I will say, having recently discovered shit from my past now that I never knew about before, that the early and mid- '90s had some great stuff imo
For every badass Judas Priest or Iron Maiden song that was played on the radio in the 80's, there were like 12 crappy Def Leppard, Poison, Extreme, or Europe bubble gum poppy abortions. The 80's people think of when they idealize the decade as the pinnacle of hard driving metal was not the mainstream, it was part of our counter culture. The mainstream was just as commercial, homogenized and artistically devoid as the 90's and the contemporary mainstream. It just had cooler hair and eyeliner.
Well when it comes to nostalgia I think many are nostalgic about their personal experiences rather then the actual decade itself, when I start to reminisce about my time in the 90s I get a little sad because I think of people that are no longer with me, games I use to play, friends I used to have and since I was younger it was a more simple life, no major responsibilities as an adult etc. Regardless; its stupid to stay stuck in the past, looking forward is the only option as far as im concerened
Growing up in the 90's and being sheltered through most of the Bullshit so I only got to see that good parts of it makes me want the 90's to come back. When I finally grew out of my shell I realized that we must move on and go into the new era with our heads held high and have hope that we will not be subjected to more suckage for the decade. Maybe this decade will be better.
Wish I could have seen Blade Runner in theaters, its funny because everything I feel that is worth remembering is from 1999. Sure they is a couple amazing movies from the 90's but its not like I got to see Fight Club, The Matrix, Cube, or Se7en when I was fucking 12.
You know what blows my mind RazorFist, you're on the internet and then after a while you realize that everyone around you is like 15 years younger. No wonder there are so many trolls on YouTube, Middle Schoolers are fuckin' assholes. Great Vlog!
@BaldSpaceMarine Hey, douchebag, middle schooler not less than a fucking year ago. Am I an asshole as well? Well, actually, yeah, but my point still stands.
@TheKidComment Whats up Home dog? Well, i personaly don't think you're an asshole at all, and judging from your videos, i actually belive that you're quite smart and funny. But having been to Middle School... both of us, i think we can both agree that there are some dicks that you have to deal with during those 3 years. Enjoy High School man, it only happens once. PS: Lol, calm down, i mean you no harm!
@BaldSpaceMarine Nah, I was just playin'. Although yes I was in middle school last year, I'm not going to lie, it's the epitome of douchebaggery. Shit, Union, (the school district where I go) is probably the worst in the country. I shit you not, some dumb slut actually got PREGNANT, sixth grade no less. She actually acted shocked too.
"Having unsafe sex can actually get you pregnant? NO, YOU DON'T SAY!"
@TheKidComment Yeah, middle school is tough. And High School, it can be even worse. Just try and remember that all these people, even your best friends, probably won't be a part of your life 2 weeks after you graduate. Most of them latch onto friendships and social connections just so they can make it through those 4 years, and then once its all over, most just don't need you anymore. PS: I had no idea! I need to start wearing rubbers!
@BaldSpaceMarine Shit, if I had a nickel every time I heard someone tell me, "You won't care about any of your school friends once you graduate" I'd, probably be only 15 cents richer but still.
Also, you skipped over Alice in Chains completely. There's nothing changing the fact that, metal or not, "Dirt" is both the best drug addiction album ever, and probably among the say, 50 albums everyone ought ot listen to regardless of musical interest.
@TheKevinWalker Man, they're whole discography should be required listening; personally I think Facelift was their best, not to mention the EPs Sap and Jar of Flies
Dude, cut a little slack for a guy turning 18 tommorow. My childhood in the 90's was defined by Green Day, Nirvana, and the all-mighty PS1. (I really don't give a shit if you don't like Green Day or Nirvana btw.) The 2000's?Democracy decided to take a vacation, the resulting "leader" pretty much allowed 9/11 to happen,my generations future was sold out by misguided imbeciles, and this nation began fighting to pointless wars.Thankfully the Class of 2012 seems to be rising above that, but still.Slack!
Disagreements and misunderstandings aside, A-fucking-men to this. I never realized before today that the reason I spent so much time happily alone playing video games and watching taped episodes of 80's programming at home before stumbling upon the joys of sex in high school were because I could never fully get into the vapid stagnation of the 90's. Sure I was always well aware of this, but I think this rant just kind of cemented this sentiment. And once again Razorfist I have you to thank.
@xRazorFistx The problem with saying that was the entire point of the VLOG is that, while you may have intended to make the point "Nostalgia's at its worst when you didn't actually live most of that decade, let me demonstrate through a with the 80s on top of the 90's face." It came off more like "Your Nostalgia's wrong, most of you're younger than17, and this is why the 80s were better."
Not that either of our views hold much weight beyond our own heads. Just saying it sounds hypocritical.
My favorite part of this video is when you said "What the fuck else was there to do?" I feel the exact same goddamned way. While all the kids at school were talking about shit like Power Rangers and cars, I was kickin' back playing Super Mario World, Megaman X, Zelda: Link to the Past... You get the picture.
I gotta say I think it's ironic that you say that Nickelback takes it's cues from 90's music when their songs are typically the type of shitty power ballads and butt rock that you would hear on the radio in the 80's. I love ya man, but that was kind of silly. For every time you heard Judas Priest you heard Winger or Warrant five times more.
Snes,ps1,sega games back then where better before brown and gloom came,music...meh never cared but what I really liked about the 90's were the cars Supras,Rx7,300zx,Firebird/Camaro and even the Crustangs looked good back then.
Iron Maiden's last album hit the charts at #4. Seems like what I like is pretty fashionable at the moment. Who's out of step with musical fashion, exactly?
@xRazorFistx Iron Maiden's last album was also shit. I'm among the most firgiving metal music listeners I know, and "El Dorado" destroyed my soul. And not in that good Candlemass climax kind of way either. Let's face it, Pantera's worst album could hold it's own against anything off that record. I hate Pantera, by the way.
I enjoyed the 90's alot, growing up with shows like Roccos Modern Life, Beavis and Butthead, South Park, WWF and WCW were truly a highlight for me, I spent many hours on my Sega Megadrive and Sony Playstation and it was a time when Kids social skills weren't retarded and we'd all happily go outside and play. Although I truly disliked the later end of the 90's, the music went downhill and we had the rise of Boybands and Pop Divas it wouldn't truly settle down until the Early-Mid 00's.
I'll take any music from the 90's over fucking dubstep any day... And now Nickelback is doing dubstep! It's like taking nails-on-a-chalkboard and mixing it with train-wreck-in-a-wind-tunnel. Dubstep needs to die in a pit of boiling acid.
The reason 90s mainstream music sucked is because thanks to deregulation most radio stations got gobbled up by a few companies and because of it they all played the same safe BS.
Like most thing today if you want the good stuff you had to go looking for it.
The only thing about the 90's that I like where the Video games. I never liked Nirvana do to the fact that all their songs where boring and unoriginal. The animated Batman series was great, I'll anyone that. Still I can't really remember much about the 90's outside of video games. Well except on other category. But I'll get into that some other time.
I definitely agree that the 90s (or pretty much any decade for that matter) isn't as good as everyone says, but I still think it's far better than 2000-2010. Culture-wise, most of what I can recollect was a massive lack of originality almost everywhere, and most everything else I used to enjoy became worse (in my eyes, at least). Especially Crunk music, holy fuck was that awful, and it's amazing it stayed popular for as long as it did.
Speaking as someone who grew up in the 90's, I agree for the most part. While the early 90's had some of the most over rated bands to have ever come into existence (nirvana anyone?). The early 90's had some damn good films, music and cartoons Like Candy Man, Falling Down, Clerks, Mask of the Phantasm, and Jacobs Ladder just to name a handful of good films from that era. As For the Music, Pantera started getting major airplay, Alice in Chains was the only grunge band that did not suck.
@TwilightBinder Not to mention the fact that Beavis and Butt-head also happened in the 90's. Things didn't go to shit until 95 or 96 with the rise of boy bands, creed and films like Scream and I know what you did last summer along with the death of headbangers ball.
My favourite cartoons came out in the 80's despite being too young to actually live (think) in the eighties, and as I grew up I had a lot of second hand vhs tapes from the uk and america so I got to see a lot of different stuff going as far back as the 60's as I was growing up and i'm grateful that I got to see so much different stuff without being too attached to a particular era. Nostalgia can be a wonderful feeling but of course some people will take it too far and shit on everything else.
The 80's sucked equally as hard as the 90's and 00's. The fact is, all these decades had horrendous moments, regardless of your political beliefs, love/ hatred of stereotypes or musical bias for/ against hair metal/ grunge/ new jack swing / numetal etc. Cherry picking the parts you like while wearing rose coloured nostalgia glasses does not change this.
@CowboyDev1 LOGH didn't come out--and probably never will come out--in America. That is unless you were living in Japan and spending hundreds of dollars/yen for those mail order VHS tapes, OR you somehow got old, worn out VHS fansubs of it.
I watched Ronin Warriors re-runs in the late 90's, best anime evar.
But yea, the 90's had some garbage. Almost everything media-wise went downhill. Problem w/ nostalgia goggles though is, people will only remember the good things, not the bad.
@McFhurer Yea, 80s where so much better I mean you had Reganomics, L.A gang wars, Mullets, shitty rock, shitty pop music, Shitty cartoons, shitty games, Cosby show, Ronald Regan didn't die,Too fucking happy.
Oh shit, you actually liked Ronin Warriors? Didn't expect that one, loved that anime. Honestly, I think 90% of nostalgia has to do just with the time of your youth. Generally things really were much "simpler" when you were young. You had no responsibilities, there was a lot about the world you weren't subjected to or understood, and you had a lot of time on your hands. So it really has nothing to do with the year itself, just your age in relation to that year.
I like the 90s more so than 2000 most of the bands i listen to now were either were formed or had there hey-day in the 90's. the 80's did have more talent at a point a lot of hair metal starts to sound the same. were as rob/white zombie, marilyn manson, nin alice in chains, rage aginst the machins are for me more memerable but i will agree grung for the most part sucked unless it was nervana then it was just OKAY.
I agree 100%. The 90s sucked. I consider myself a bit lucky, as it so happened the beginning of the 90s coincided with the fall of communism in my country so mid-to-late 80s and early 90s pop-culture was where it was at, so I kinda got the best of both worlds. But what was also true, was that were left in a terrible state. There was a shortage of food, a shortage of money and an all around crisis. They weren't simpler times and I'd much rather to go forward than go backwards...
i liked this vlog a lot, i really enjoy getting to know more about my favorite reviewer on the internet, well done. However, it did leave me curious as to how old you are RazorFist? I'm 20 and can remember quite a bit of the 1990's being born in 1991, which is another reason i liked this vlog so much.
I've found that Sublime is often the only ska band anyone knows about. If someone's into ska or at least knows a little bit about it, they don't give two shits about Sublime, but if all they listen to is shit on the radio, then Sublime is one of their favorite bands ever. Maybe it's the same reason why people still like Metallica.
@SixRhinoceros Exactly the truth. Metallica is the best band ever . . . unless you've ever heard any Megadeth. Sublime is the best Ska group ever . . . Until you send someone a download link to Arrogant Sons of Bitches "Three Cheers For Dissapointment".
Actually razorfist, as awesome as ronin warriors was, it didn't get an English American release until about the mid 90s or so. So while it was a kickass action anime in the 80s, that distinction really only applies to the Japanese kids who saw it during that decade.
However, I do think that some of this 90s nostalgia is misplaced, mainly due to the fact that there are really two sides of the 90s: The early to mid part ('90 to about '96) and the latter half ('97 to about '99/2000)
@OVRFND For instance, it was in the early part of the decade that we got Batman TAS, Rocko's Modern Life, and X-Men. We got awesome, ground-breaking Hollywood fare like The Crow and Jurassic Park, not to mention indie fare like Slackers and Clerks. And as much as you think grunge was terrible, it really was the last time rock music seemed inventive and vital to popular music. Rap music was also still at a point where people were either into it or scared shitless from it, something it cant be now
@OVRFND Not to mention metal music; glam finally died off, leaving metal bands to take the more lucrative thrash route (ala Metallica and Megadeth),create more underground, aggressive fare (such as Pantera), or the burgeoning industrial route (NIN, Ministry, KMFDM). It was really a time where popular culture was changing and progressing really quickly and in a lot of different directions and that was why it was so exciting, and now, nostalgic for people.
@OVRFND But the late 90s, well thats when it went down hill, at least from what I can tell. Musically, grunge died, leaving its closest alternative (no pun intended) "post grunge" to sweep all across rock radio, nevermind that it clearly sounded like it watered down whatever aggression and talent its forefathers had earlier in the decade. Rap music slowly eased into showing bling and bitches, thereby not really looking dangerous anymore.
@OVRFND And metal of course saw thrash giants like Metallica and Megadeth not knowing what the fuck to do with their music, since there no longer new bands, but weren't that old either. Oh! But the newer metal bands sure had a great idea! Take all the prepubescent anger, add a dash of rap, a pinch of industrial, and we have Nu Metal! Never mind that most of those bands seemed to rely on their youthful aggression that now as they get older, their lack of talent and maturity is much more apparent.
You know Razorfist that his isn't new, in the 1970s, people wanted the the 50s back, thats why shows like Happy Days exist, and the the 1990s people wanted the 70s to come back that is why The 70s show existed, its not new, it has existed for decades, its pointless to complian about it, hell its pointless to think about it since thoses decades are gone and we have our memories, but instead of looking back why not look forward?
i was born in 89. the nineties were bomb. There was great cartoons in the 90's like Animanics, pinky and the brain, rocko's modern life, freakazoid, not to mention Simpsons. Yeah the Simpsons are god awful now days but they were funny back during that time. There was some good music in the 90's like Nirvana and i love old Korn. Rage Against the Machine, and Tool is great. There is a bunch of great music and cartoons and tv shows from that decade. Last decade was just god awful
Some nostalgia fags do piss me off though. Can you believe there are some who claim that Spider-man the animated series from the 90s as lame as it is is better than Spectacular spider-man? Oh well, in the 90's we all did get the birth of the attitude era of "Rasslin" and there is no way in hell Vince McMahon will ever pull off the same stunt in today's world as when Stone Cold whipping out a gun at Brian Pillman at his house. Too much liberal pussies and soccer moms to let that same stunt happen
Thank you RF for putting these teens in their place. I knew that it only be a matter of time before the young'un's started waxing all poetic for a decade they can barely remember. And pretty soon, one day, people will be saying the same thing towards the first decade of this century. To think, one day, Britney Spears and the like will actually be reflected on as music with "good taste" ::shudders:: Oh, and as someone born in '84, as far as I'm concerned,
@TheNintendoJuggalo I think it's just natural for all people of all generations to reflect on "their time" as better. To be fair, while I enjoy the shit out of 80's action movies compared to today's action, I'm not sure there's a way to classify one as being better than the other. There are some modern action movies that I enjoy, but they're very few and far between. Even "The Expendables", the so-called "return to 80's action", looked & sounded way too "modernized" to me.
@tylerdurden3891 Indeed. But, the 90's was where things started to go downhill, evolution and innovation ended then. Everything from games to music has gotten worse, not to mention the economy and government.
@TheNintendoJuggalo Eh, games changed from being difficult due to skill, to being difficult because of all the things you can do with all the added features, controls/button (I personally find new games much harder because I can't remember all the things the tutorials show me). As for music, as far as I'm concerned, 80's metal bands that were designed by the corporations were essentially the "boy bands" of the 80's. Same for R&B groups also concocted by the corps. It's all subjective.
to dispute your argument about anime, i would argue that the ghost in the shell movie came out in 1995, and that was a great blade runner-esque cop cyborg philosophyfest that could get pretty damn violent in some scenes
well said on most pionts razorfist i was born in 90 so i missed anything decent from the early part of the decade and what i remember does mainly suck.. 80s are definately where my heart lies and thats sad when i wasn't even there for them
@MrLoadingscreen No offense, but you're not really being nostalgic for the nineties; rather, you're being nostalgic for 90s anime that most people didn't start watching until the 2000s, which is when Bebop was released in America.
Not to mention the 90's had some of THE dirty worst comics books ever created. But then again, it also had some of the best (Sandman Mystery Theater, Starman, Preacher)
I was born in '86, and I can remember the 90's quite well. In retrospect, apart from the awesome video games we got in the 90s (X-Wing, TIE Fighter, Wing Commander, Thief, Deus Ex, Blood, Omikron, Wild 9, etc.), literally everything I enjoyed during the 90s was produced in the 80s. All of my favorite movies as a kid were 80s movies. All my favorite music was recorded in the 80s or earlier. The 90s were a chaotic mishmash of emasculated horseshit. But the movie The Way of The Gun is good.
as a 90s kid i enjoyed the decade admitly i was born in it so don't rember much of the early stuff. i really enjoyed the ska wave that happened though it the music was good (blur and oasis), although i find it funny how fashion as not changed at all.
music was alot better in the 90s than now all those xfactor and pop idol shows have completly taken over the charts here in the uk rest is just the mindless justin beiber pitbull crap that i hate so much.
I liked the 90's, and I must admit I do have plenty of nostalgia from them. But I also grew up in half the 80's too, idk which I'd prefer. Still I can't say I agree about 00 up, I would choose 80's and 90's over them.
does anyone remember the conan cartoon from the early 90's?,when i was a kid i loved that shit it was like 91-93 i was like 11 yrs old in 91...damn im old lol
This entire video equates to little more than a cock size measurement competition between nostalgia seized egos. Nostalgia,in general,is just a crude way of ignoring problems of both those days and the current ones and,as such,I give little more than a fuck to all that claim their times of primal infancy and such neotenic encapsulated structural development are better. Being fond of childhood and early adolescence is fine by me;fond of specific times? Stop being a moron.
@ArtVandalay1984 Not that I want to start a debate, but are you implying Rob Liefeld was a GOOD thing to happen for comics? Because I think most people would say otherwise...

But we should thank the british and european artists and bands for that like the cranberries, oasis, blur, the verve, radiohead, the corrs, REM, etc...

Silly me.
PatternistSlave 1 month ago
@RetroGamingGuide: I don't think I have ever heard the names of the Damned and Phil Collins coupled together like that. Mind = Blown. Lemme try this: Hall and Oates and Suicidal Tendencies, Lionel Ritchie and the Circle Jerks. Whoa! Trippy. Aren't all of them (except ST) technically from the 70's though? I know the Damned are.
PatternistSlave 1 month ago
@RetroGamingGuide Haven-t heard from huey luis in over 20 years.
Then again, havent heard much from tears for fears either.
Let me clarify:There are groups in the 80s that were really good, and continued to make music and got a rep, then there are others who weren-t that good who made music and disappeared.
piromaniac9999 1 month ago
@RetroGamingGuide And you are attacking me for retconnin you.
Castlevania 1 was in 1987.
There are plenty of bad games on the nes, just look them up.
That doesn-t mean there aren-t any good,it just means you take the good with the bad.
Also:I didn-t look up the date on the release of action 52.
As for 1 hit wonders:I made myself misunderstood, sorry.
I didn-t mean phil collins as a one hit wonder. He did have good songs, but he also had a lot of crap songs too.
piromaniac9999 1 month ago
@RetroGamingGuide the mid to late 80s was a evolution in gaming, making games more complex.I happen to love zelda series, and have since 1987,which is when it came out.
Tina turner started much earlier, but thunder dome was one of the things of the 80s that is recognized, along with michael jackson and prince.
Tom petty was also doing a lot in the 80-s,but he started in the late 70s.
Queen started in the early 70s,became popular in the mid 70s and died in 1991.
piromaniac9999 1 month ago
@RetroGamingGuide Another example of great music:Rem.
I am a huge fan of rem,and have been since the 80s.
I even liked duran duran to some point, but not all of duran duran-s music was equally good.
What about rick astley? rick astley is a piece of fucking shit for 80s music.
Also:don-t forget that some great games also came out in the 90s,like:a link to the past, ultima underworld, final fantasy 4 and 6,super metroid, super contra, resident evil 1 and 3,and more.
piromaniac9999 1 month ago
@RetroGamingGuide I never said all games are shit, read what i said again.
I said:not all games are equally brilliant, but there were a lot of brilliant games coming out in the 80-s.
Some are also legendary, like:Pong and galaga.
As for phil collins:I didn-t mean him as a one hit wonder,i mean that he wasnt always good.Phil collins made a lot of songs that were melodramatic and cliche.
Personally:I like queen and rem and even the old genesis, lead by peter gabriel better.
piromaniac9999 1 month ago
@RetroGamingGuide Bad games always existed, and probably always will.
The difference is:Today we possibly might have more of both good and bad, because more comes out.I haven-t played superman 64 or batman 1 and 2 on the nes,or the batman on snes.i know this much:Arkham asylum has really fluent fighting, and because of this, its fun as hell to beat up enemies.
piromaniac9999 1 month ago
@RetroGamingGuide To continuethe argument of before:
80-s at moments could excuse itself at times for limited technology ,and being relatively new.
New new games of today have less excuse for having crappy controls, because we have so many different types of controls that are made to improve response and jumping.
Thats not to say some games can excuse games like kid icarus,a game that had not bad controls, but the difficulty was a bit too high.
piromaniac9999 1 month ago
@RetroGamingGuide You can also trust my word,i am possibly been playing longer than razorfist.I did a lot of gaming in the 80-s 90-s 2000s.
Difference is:I can account for games from 1985 and up.The games for the 80-s were still establishing themselves and their niche areas.By the time a lot of the young gamers who play online fps games, the genres have already more than established themselves.
The games from the 80-s with bad controls excused themselves due to being new.
piromaniac9999 1 month ago
@RetroGamingGuide for music:There was some really great music in the 80-s,better than some of the 90-s music, but there was also some crap too.
I found that some of phil collins music during the 80-s was cliche as hell.
Also:You had groups that were 1 hit wonders.
piromaniac9999 1 month ago

PatternistSlave 1 month ago
Well when it comes to nostalgia I think many are nostalgic about their personal experiences rather then the actual decade itself, when I start to reminisce about my time in the 90s I get a little sad because I think of people that are no longer with me, games I use to play, friends I used to have and since I was younger it was a more simple life, no major responsibilities as an adult etc. Regardless; its stupid to stay stuck in the past, looking forward is the only option as far as im concerened

IMnotRALPH1 1 month ago

SixRhinoceros 1 month ago
@SixRhinoceros i wouldn't consider Sublime Ska. Ska is bands like Reel Big Fish and Catch 22
nick31189xx 1 month ago
@nick31189xx Sublime is like Baby's First Ska band. They're a watered down version of ska for people who've never heard of The Specials.
SixRhinoceros 1 month ago
@SixRhinoceros I like SKA and I could care less about sublime
jackerx5 1 month ago
@SixRhinoceros Exactly the truth. Metallica is the best band ever . . . unless you've ever heard any Megadeth. Sublime is the best Ska group ever . . . Until you send someone a download link to Arrogant Sons of Bitches "Three Cheers For Dissapointment".

Actually razorfist, as awesome as ronin warriors was, it didn't get an English American release until about the mid 90s or so. So while it was a kickass action anime in the 80s, that distinction really only applies to the Japanese kids who saw it during that decade.
However, I do think that some of this 90s nostalgia is misplaced, mainly due to the fact that there are really two sides of the 90s: The early to mid part ('90 to about '96) and the latter half ('97 to about '99/2000)
OVRFND 1 month ago
@OVRFND For instance, it was in the early part of the decade that we got Batman TAS, Rocko's Modern Life, and X-Men. We got awesome, ground-breaking Hollywood fare like The Crow and Jurassic Park, not to mention indie fare like Slackers and Clerks. And as much as you think grunge was terrible, it really was the last time rock music seemed inventive and vital to popular music. Rap music was also still at a point where people were either into it or scared shitless from it, something it cant be now
OVRFND 1 month ago 3
@OVRFND Not to mention metal music; glam finally died off, leaving metal bands to take the more lucrative thrash route (ala Metallica and Megadeth),create more underground, aggressive fare (such as Pantera), or the burgeoning industrial route (NIN, Ministry, KMFDM). It was really a time where popular culture was changing and progressing really quickly and in a lot of different directions and that was why it was so exciting, and now, nostalgic for people.
OVRFND 1 month ago 3
@OVRFND But the late 90s, well thats when it went down hill, at least from what I can tell. Musically, grunge died, leaving its closest alternative (no pun intended) "post grunge" to sweep all across rock radio, nevermind that it clearly sounded like it watered down whatever aggression and talent its forefathers had earlier in the decade. Rap music slowly eased into showing bling and bitches, thereby not really looking dangerous anymore.
OVRFND 1 month ago

To think, one day, Britney Spears and the like will actually be reflected on as music with "good taste" ::shudders:: Oh, and as someone born in '84, as far as I'm concerned,
80's music > 90's music.
tylerdurden3891 1 month ago
@tylerdurden3891 Even worse, fags in the next few decades will reflect on the 10's as the autotune era like it was good. Fuck 'em.
TheNintendoJuggalo 1 month ago
@TheNintendoJuggalo I think it's just natural for all people of all generations to reflect on "their time" as better. To be fair, while I enjoy the shit out of 80's action movies compared to today's action, I'm not sure there's a way to classify one as being better than the other. There are some modern action movies that I enjoy, but they're very few and far between. Even "The Expendables", the so-called "return to 80's action", looked & sounded way too "modernized" to me.
tylerdurden3891 1 month ago
@tylerdurden3891 Indeed. But, the 90's was where things started to go downhill, evolution and innovation ended then. Everything from games to music has gotten worse, not to mention the economy and government.
I hated "The Expendables".
TheNintendoJuggalo 1 month ago
@TheNintendoJuggalo Eh, games changed from being difficult due to skill, to being difficult because of all the things you can do with all the added features, controls/button (I personally find new games much harder because I can't remember all the things the tutorials show me). As for music, as far as I'm concerned, 80's metal bands that were designed by the corporations were essentially the "boy bands" of the 80's. Same for R&B groups also concocted by the corps. It's all subjective.

the movie that completely destroyed the 90's for me was ghost in the shell. by far, the worst movie i've ever seen!

to dispute your argument about anime, i would argue that the ghost in the shell movie came out in 1995, and that was a great blade runner-esque cop cyborg philosophyfest that could get pretty damn violent in some scenes

Cowboy Bebop. 1998. So many good.
MrLoadingscreen 1 month ago
@MrLoadingscreen No offense, but you're not really being nostalgic for the nineties; rather, you're being nostalgic for 90s anime that most people didn't start watching until the 2000s, which is when Bebop was released in America.

@OVRFND Yeah, that's true. I'm just nitpicking I guess.

tyfighter0710 1 month ago
I was born in '86, and I can remember the 90's quite well. In retrospect, apart from the awesome video games we got in the 90s (X-Wing, TIE Fighter, Wing Commander, Thief, Deus Ex, Blood, Omikron, Wild 9, etc.), literally everything I enjoyed during the 90s was produced in the 80s. All of my favorite movies as a kid were 80s movies. All my favorite music was recorded in the 80s or earlier. The 90s were a chaotic mishmash of emasculated horseshit. But the movie The Way of The Gun is good.
MarKSlamS621 1 month ago in playlist The Rageaholic VLOG Series
Don't forget about the shit ton of christian evangelicalism that took place during the latter half of that decade.

as a 90s kid i enjoyed the decade admitly i was born in it so don't rember much of the early stuff. i really enjoyed the ska wave that happened though it the music was good (blur and oasis), although i find it funny how fashion as not changed at all.
music was alot better in the 90s than now all those xfactor and pop idol shows have completly taken over the charts here in the uk rest is just the mindless justin beiber pitbull crap that i hate so much.
