@awesomehonda Ummm, the 650 motor is a Honda motor. Its from an XR650R dirt bike. From a fabricators POV, why do all the work to make a bigger motor fit if you're only going up another 50 cc? He's not the first or last to try this combo it just didn't pan out this time. I'm sure hell have better luck next round.
@robL98 That's it rob, why go up 50cc when you can go up 250cc. Ok so I blew it up once in 9 years, I think that's a pretty good effort considering I use to race it! I bought the bike new in 2001 & fitted the xr650r engine in 2002.
Totally agree with meatyz. I have a 416 with lots of nod work done to the engine and I have a stock 650l. The l is air cooled and has electric start. The 416 has never lasted me more than a season without some kind of catastrophic failure but the 650 has never given me any problems. How I would love to mount the l engine in the ex but I hate to part a good bike. Kudos madackow for the beast you have created. Good luck getting her back together.
I think that is why you leave the stock motor in it. It is cool to modify the stock motor but putting a bigger motor in is not smart like you said in one of your other vids it gets hot probobly why you blow the motor.
@TheAwesomehonda, I fixed the overheating problem I had & never cooked it. In my opinion fitting a bigger more powerful engine is a better idea because if it remains relatively stock it will always be more reliable than a hotted up smaller engine. e.g. 440 kitted 400ex's have a nice habit of pulling their barrel studs out & separating the engines.
@Madacko Very good point. I agree completely. a bigger stock motor is better all around; more reliable, more powerful, and if for some godforsaken reason you want more power, you're starting from a higher baseline output. Thumbs up for the engineering marvel you've created man.
@redman666ify Those "jumps" are just hills at the moment, I'm not sure about you but I sure as hell hate big flat ground landings coz they hurt! I've seen people eat the handlebars doing it. If you can work out how it blew I'd love to know coz it was a 20 hour old engine with a new rod & piston, but yes it did get ridden hard just not in that video.
That sucks so bad! I saw a quad in a local moto shop that cost $40,000 to build, it's fully custom, with an air cooled xr650 engine in it. It was imported from America it reminds me of this, do you have any vids showing the whole bike?
@rustyATV Hi mate, yeah I hope I can get it running again soon too. Haven't pulled it down to inspect the damage yet but hope I can salvage most of the internals. Priced the genuine parts I think I'll need at my local handa dealer, Barrel, crank & rod kit, piston, left & right engine cases, gasket kit & it totaled just over $5000 AU. For an extra $900 I can ride away on a registered second hand XR650R! I know I don't need genuine parts so I'm better off looking for a whole motor.
@Madacko Yeah, my first thought was "THAT'S going to be expensive!" The thumpers are hell to rebuild. I'm betting you'll also need to go through the oil pump. Can you scan eBay in the U.S.? Looks like there are a couple for less than they typical $1800US, that is, if they're willing to ship your way.
The conrod parted with the gudgeon pin then exited the crank case just behind the barrel which also split the barrel from top to bottom. Nice & expensive to fix.
Lets hope you got the 400 still laying around!

@meatzy123 Ok whatever rings your bell but why don't you use another honda motor like one out of a 450.

The reason why it is dead is cause i think it poped the crank seal

@TheHonda300ryder The conrod was feeling ill & needed some fresh air so it left the crank case.

I haven't pulled it down yet but I think it suffered from a blocked oil squirter which caused the gudgeon pin & rod to seize.
