Moriarty held his metal mask up, and in it Quatermain could see the reflection of the knife held by Moriarty's invisible lackey coming up to stab Sawyer. Quatermain then turned around and shot the invisible lackey, choosing to save Sawyer's life even though it meant turning his own back on the treacherous Moriarty.
(Look closely at 0:40. The dying lackey is naked for invisibility's sake, and here you can see the dusty soles of his feet come off the floor. Quatermain's shot was a fatal one.)
Isn't that what I said? Well, except that I just remembered that Moriarty's invisible lackey (provided with some of Skinner's stolen potion) was indeed holding Sawyer hostage (not immediately trying to kill him), and Quatermain freed Sawyer by shooting the lackey...but yeah. Invisible goon got shot, Sawyer got freed, Quatermain got stabbed, Moriarty got shot from all the way downtown and that was the end of the stand-off to save the world. ;-p
hey he's mine. dont make me go jeckyll and hyde on ur arse (well i already wnt jekyll and hyde on one friend's arse). *dips tom, and kisses* see? we make a great couple. and, oh, i also get dorian.
What, neither of you two ladies wants that handsome devil Professor James Moriarty? For shame! The guy has brains, charisma, money, a plan to conquer the world or something...everything a woman could ask for!
It's a shotgun slug. It doesn't have any pre-cut rifling or other modern features, but I imagine shotgun slugs would have been of simpler make back in the late 1800's. Wilhelm Brenneke marketed the first effective shotgun slug in 1898--and gunsmiths were developing slugs well before that--so the time would have been just about right for Quatermain to wander down to some British-run general store in South Africa and pick some of these bad boys up.
It's a shotgun, all right. What humbletim there didn't account for was that shotguns can be loaded with slugs as well as scattershot. Slugs concentrate all the shot's kinetic energy into one aerodynamic mass, making slugs far superior to buckshot or birdshot at delivering power and accuracy over longer range...not as much accuracy as rifles deliver, granted, but better accuracy than most folks would think.
And, as the slow-mo shows, Quatermain's shotgun was indeed loaded with a slug. ;-)
how does he survive a fall from that high?
jjparkhill 4 months ago
@jjparkhill If you watch him fall it looks like he has some kind of wing-rig on, like a hang glider.

After his landing, he put off something like a black wide spread garment.
it would help the soft-landing.

Indeed, it's no shotgun in this film. It has to be a double-barreled rifle.
