True American original! Cropper and Duck made it a section to remember! They blew everybody out of the water at Monterey, '67, Hendrix included. Tight and funky as hail!
I learned a lot of Booker's song. Back n the day I'd buy his records, take them home & learn them all. I play by ear & I have a pretty good ear but even though some of his songs R relatively "easy" it still took me a while to get 'em down perfect. Note by note I learned a lot of his music. I can read & write cord charts but that's about it. I spent many many hrs. Sitting in front of my B3. Booker T. & Jimmy Smith are my favorites. U can go to YouTube & just type in herbiethebarber just li
Y'all know that Green Onions is the 85th most popular piece of music ever written! And Jones wrote it when he was 17. Kinda puts him up there with Bach and such doncha think?
The man who gave us one of many Hammond organ classics that will never die, Mr Jones. If you kind folks get some extra time , please check out my Green Onions tribute to the man. watch?v=Khs5T46YFGY
saw him for the first time at Rock the Garden yesterday...life changing...seriously, I'll never forget it. what'd I do to be his friend: pay him, clean his b3 whenever he wasn't playing, let him walk all over me, etc. well done booker t.!

Classic and a Human Class Act... Love the fact he stood outside himself, the beautiful and supremely talented human that he is, and paid a compliment to the NPR gang at the end. Bravo!
I was looking for Green Onions the other day and could not remember the name. Thanks again NPR for solving life's little mysteries. Mr. Jones is beautiful and amazing here. I love the stories almost as much as the music.
Green Onions is used in a Quentin Tarantino film, I'm sure, as well as the film "A Single Man" . . . and so many others, commercials, on Rolling Stone's Top 500 greatest songs of all time, etc. It's a classic :)
YEAH IT WAS USED IN SOME WENDY'S COMMERCIALS AND I THINK IN SOME MOVIES TOO , DEFINITELY HIS MOST RECOGNIZABLE TRACK.............. sorry for yelling wish i had that book of beatles pics behind booker
Not to be a dink - Booker T. does play the B-3 wonderfully - but he recorded "Green Onions" on an M-3...

Wonder if Justin Bieber or Kanye West could do that.
Mr. Jones actually got a paper route to be able to pay for lessons on the Hammond? Now that itself is a lesson to today's youngsters.
