Ryan Adams is like no other artist that was or ever will be. His soul is painted with the emotions of 1000 souls and a 1000 lives. His music saves me. Gold is a great album, however, knowing his "state of mind" during the making of it sort of changes how I feel about this one as compared to later ones. The writing is always there for him, but how authentic is the music when you are being confined by a record company or flying on substance? I'm not sure. Either way I'll take what he gives :)

i rarely listen to Gold anymore,too commercial and middle of the road..dont get me wrong ,there are some brilliant songs on it but its over produced and he sings too high in alot of the songs.i prefer LOVE IS HELL ,COLD ROSES and even ROCK N ROLL. have a nice day

just to discount an album cos its too commercial is strange to me. Without gold without new york RA would be a different person in the albums you mention. anyhow check out the sweedish sessions if you want something thats far from the middle of the road.
