  • I personally prefer to smoke marijuanna with my Whisky particularly when I'm really trying to explore a malt

  • Life is too short for a Cheap small cigar LOL

  • Ralfy - I know this video is OLD - but what about the PIPE smokers - I smoke both PIPE and CIGARS - Martyn

  • I love the big cigar! Very nice! :D

But one thing! You say: "Two main ways - cigarettes and cigars"? Oh no-no-no-no, pal. There is indeed a third main way, which in my honest opinion would be as great as cigars, if not perhaps better: pipes! :) Pipes go well with any beverage. A nice sweet virginia tobacco or perhaps an english blend with smoky latakia to go along with your precious drops are sure winners. I bet there are many pipe smoking whisky lovers in Scotland who would swear by it! ;)

  • I smoked a cigar the size of the second largest one you held up, it was an LFD Double Ligero (which is by far one of the most powerful stogies in existence), and I had it with laphroaig 10 yr. I stopped smoking it when I had about 5 cm left and noticed my visual perspective stretch by about 40%.

By the way, a lot of people use tupperware in place of a humidor, and one of the best humidifiers I've ever seen is unscented crystal cat litter.

  • @ionz75

    cat litter ? . . . brilliant !

  • I find that it takes a rather strong cigar to keep up with my whiskey, but that's probably because I'm a peat head.

  • Wow so that makes 3 things we have in common! We enjoy whiskey, motorbikes & cigars! You should try the Partagas Serie D No# 4.. one of my absolute favourites!

  • Oh, dear sir. If you'd be so kind, I'd love if you listed/spelled out the cigars & liquors specifically mentioned in your vids. Ta!

  • @xxmightyonexx In the descriptions on youtube that is (although feel free to do it in vids if you'd like).

  • You are wonderful. New subscriber.

  • Why would anyone want to smoke a cigar that size?

    Hahahaha

  • at 2:00 beeen trying to find the cigar brand called Oooppss - can't find it ;-)

  • that was a really intresting video i liked this one do more like these !

  • @TheBattleChad

    sometime in the future !

  • Cuban cigars, fine whiskey; all your missing now is some orchastral music and a large paper back book that you hold in one hand while keeping your index finger and thumb firmly gripped around the cigar.

  • Ralfy, I'm an avid cigar smoker from the US, who has been to Cuba, I have been enjoying your whisky reviews immensely. the cigar review was entertaining and had me chuckling, keep up the great videos, you have another suscriber here. You've probably posted it somewhere else, do you have reviews on The Macallan 18yr? it's one of my favorites. Cheers!

  • @Mastercylinder32

no Mac 18 reviews planned for a while yet, but thanks for watching and enjoying !

  • nice salami cigar :))

  • A personal opinion about lighting the cigar: I've always done as you did in this video, but later on I found better to draw slowly instead of making puffs, and to help the leaves slowly getting the right temperature without provoking fire tongues. Actually I believe that lighting with puffs and flames can badly toast your cigar. Thank you for all the revies, tips and hints about whiskies! bye

  • Haha best cigar vid yet.. I'm new to cigars.. Not whisky... I was going to spend £ 100 on my first humidor.. But after seeing this think will just get the box and potato. Does it really work???

  • @zblog68

in the short term, yes !

  • @zblog68 I've never herd about using potato's, Id be worried about the smell and mould problems. they should be humidified with proper device using distilled water...

  • 05:36 wtf? :D

  • LMFAO at the giant cigar! You know i've seen this video a while back and that part still made me laugh out loud this time around. This tells me somthing lol. Ralfy you truely are a classic. Cheers!!! :-D

  • Also, rust the cigar over the flame or a Jetflame lighter, not in the flame. And don't suck on it while lightening it, you should rather blow trough it after it burns, to get the bad influences from the match or the gas out of the cigar.

    Enjoy guys!

  • As I have smoked a lot of cigars and pipes, as well as sheeshas, and know a lot of them, I would like to give some recommendation:

Ardbeg/Lagavulin - Bolivar N0.2: for the smokey evening or: La Libertad for the more lighter and mintier counter to the smokey whisky.

Glenfiddich Solera Reserve - Romeo Yulieta Cedro

Talisker 10 yo - Casa de Torres Torpedo, the Chilly Catch goes very well with the nuts and mints flavour of the cigar

An Cnoc 12 yo - Flor de Copan Monarcas...

  • I'v always enjoyed the Arturo Fuente Hemmingway series cigars...they are not as expensive as the Opus X, and a better quality than the standard Fuente offerings...along with a dram or three of an Oban 14 yr...maybe a bit of a quality dark chocolate to snack on as you savor the premium hand rolled goodness with the fine Scottish liquid heaven..or even a nearly equally wonderful bourbon is....bliss that should not be missed

  • Try an Excalibur when you get the chance Ralfy!

  • @kalashnikovdevil

I will look out for this one !

  • 05:40 ROTFPMSL!

  • Thanks Ralfy

  • (Not making fun of your way of speaking) I love your accent

  • Have now also tried a Trinidad. This was way better than the Partagas.

Trinidad is now by far my favorite after tried different brands.

My supplier also gives me free sample of a brand called Chess from the Dominican republic.

    Also very good.

  • Ralfy, I would have a drink and a smoke with you anytime....

  • Hey Ralfy

Im a newbie to whisky and would like to get into cigars

I love watching your videos ... Have a merry Christmas and Happy New Year !

Keep up the great work !

  • Just had a cigar together with my whisky...... This was something else than the cigars I find on the supermarket :) Thats for sure, simply great.... Thanks again for the heads up....

  • Thanks again Ralfy for all the great information you share.....

Do you know a trustwordy online site where we can order cigars? The cigars theyve got in shops up here is so and so I think....

  • @TheDankezzz

... can't help with Norwegian Cigar suppliers, ... best to ask at Whisky Clubs or Forums.

    ... good luck.

  • @ralfystuff So what whisky or rum do you reccomend with a Cigar? Do you drink Cognac by the way? Maybe you could have a Cognac review also? Now that were closing in to newyears eve and the cognac and champagne starts flowing... :)

  • @TheDankezzz

I recommend coffee and cigars ! then add a glass of any Spirit/beer/wine that takes your mood and relax and enjoy a triple (hat trick) 'fix' of caffeine, alcohol and nicotine !

    ... that's really what it's about !

  • I have no problems getting my Cuban Bolivar Petit Coronas here in the US ;) Thank you switzerland!

  • Amazing Ralfy, thank you very much for all these good work.

  • ya, Partagas is my all time favorite cigar. what do you prefer in a cigar personally? for example, i like Partagas Black Label because i enjoy a very oily cigar thats not only sweet but has a decent amount of nuttyness to it.

    love your reviews, thanks. :)

  • I like to smoke my pipe with a good whisky, I absolutely love a glass of Yellow Submarine with a bowl of Highland Targe or GL Pease Key Largo (which uses Dominican cigar tobacco). On the other hand, I should try a cigar with some good Scotch.

  • Hi Ralfy,

you've probably been asked this, but what would you reccomend to a first time cigar smoker?

    Thanks

    btw love your stuff!

  • @bigheadchau

Nicaraguan Cigars can be good, CAO Toranos e.t.c. and generally cheaper than Cubans.

With the Cuban Cigars, I go for Partagas, El Ray Del Mundo and Trinidad.

    ... good luck.

  • @ralfystuff

Have buyed some Partagas.. Thanks to you Ralfy....

I found a great norwegian site and got the stuff after only two days. Great service :)

  • A good montecristo or a rommeo juliet is the best thing to have with a glass of whisky i feel sorry for the americans they can`t get a real good cigar thank god i live in canada

  • nice combination!

  • Hey Ralfy,

Do you personally use a wooden box with a potato or a humidor? I have been asking around and I've heard that the potato method works for generally short term storage but not for long term. So I was just wondering what you use personally?

    Regards

  • @amf7161

... a 'breathable' wood box allows for longer storage, especially with humidors so shockingly expensive, and generally too small.

  • @RachelFuryRocks

.... try any of the CAO Brand range !

  • @ralfystuff

Hey ralfy, I was having a few beers on the couch but for some reason I suddenly felt like watching your videos even though I don't drink much whisky.

I'd like to make a request for another cigar related video, maybe some more tips on matching them with drinks.

Basically I just thought I'd let you know, you're super entertaining so keep up the great videos.

    Thanks

  • @newtonmeters

... why, thank you, ... and I will be smoking the occasional Cigar whilst reviewing stuff shortly.

  • im new to smoking cigars and ive been using a punch to cut open the end of my cigar. is there a difference between using a punch and a regular cigar cutter?

  • @pinostyle281 .... just a little difference as regards the 'draw' of the cigar. But how you cut the tip is all down to experience and preference.

  • @ralfystuff thanks!

  • Lol at the big cigar!

  • i laughting when he show the biggest one and he start laughting hahais true you smoke that and you'll be drunk

  • hello ralfy.

what would you say is a good price level for a decent cigar, as long as it's possible to draw any conclusions from the price? i'm going to graduate from school within the next time and want to do myself a little pleasure by a decent cigar, but don't want to spend too much at the same time. what'd you say would be a decent cigar and about what price is it going to be?

i'm really learning many handy things from your reviews. keep them coming please :)

  • @Almlacher as your in Germany your options are good so pay around 15 euro for a decent smoke and go for a milder one that wont leave you sick !

Try for cuban El Ray Del Mundo, or CAO Maduro, but forget the mass produced crap like King Edwards.

Ask at the shop ! .... and buy at a good retailer who know what they are selling and how to 'condition' the Cigar for humidity prior to smoking.

    ... good luck.

  • @ralfystuff

thank you very much, ralfy :>

by the way, any recommendations of good single malts for a "starter"?

  • ... Glenmorangie 10

  • if you wanna get classy go for the cohiba i went to cuba last summer and i try one it was one of the best i got it free because a friend work in a tabaqueria you get it cheap in cuba ilegal

  • What is your favorite cigar? I love Partagas and Joya de Nicaragua.

  • CAO Maduro or El Ray Del Mondo's...

Partagas Extra Fine are good too.

  • @ralfystuff That extra fine must be the same as De Luxe here... Smooth smoke.

  • Gosh...exclaims with excited laughter ;-0...that is a massive monster of a cigar. Looks more like a stake for making a fence with??? Bet you'll smoke it one day...I dread to think what the outcome would be.

  • Wow! what ED was that La Gloria?

Im from the U.S but lets say.. I have my ways ;)

  • La Gloria Cubana (exclusivo reino unido)

    .. good luck !

  • ralfy, i've been bouncing around your videos and i've got to say... with all your videos (and primarily this one), you are like the father i never had... teaching me all little life lessons and simple things like ... placing the cigar on the ground so as not to cut off too much etc etc.. keep up the good work and best wishes for the new year :)

  • Hello Ralfy,

    Do you skin the potato?

  • ... NO

the skin provides the membrane for the water release out of the potato.

  • Thanks Ralfy, I'm off to find a potato. :)

  • typ kozak!

  • *pause*.........cohibas...hilarious.

Political commentary was a nice touch!

    Great video.

  • Perfect timing :) I've started smoking cigars about 2 months ago, and combined with a good whiskey, it is pure bliss.

    Great tip with the potato.

  • Ralf.

Great video. I'm a full time pipe man which I enjoy with my whiskey, but I've definately been known to light up a cigar!

    Great informative videos.

    Cheers!

    John

  • Thanks again Ralf, Ive been looking for alternatives for a humidor. Ive got some 40yr old king eddies that need restoring, ive been using the zip lock bag method for these. Im relatively new to cigars so any information on cigars is much appreciated. Thanks again.

  • I enjoy the mini Montechristos you can pick up for around £7 for 10. Small enough that you can finish one and yet it's still a Cuban.

  • Great review - just added your blog to my linklist...

  • great video ralfy. as always, pleasure to watch.

do u have a twitter account?

  • ..... I do have a twitter account , but it is unused at the moment as I don't think the morse code bursts of words make for comprehensive communication.

.... Lost in transition ... so to speak !

    I may re-activate later !!

... and thanks for your comments .

  • Cuban cigars are extremly avaliable illegally all around America, no one really cares selling them out to people.

  • The „Vasco da Gama Whisky Cigar

    is great!

The only cigar of the world that breathes

12 year-old Glenfarclas single malt during the storage

  • cubans are expensive, (that's monopolies for you!) and so I recommend starting with non-cubans like CAO 'storm' or San Damianas.

Forget the cheap generic factory Brands as they are generally bitter and 'flat'.

    A 5" (12cm) is a good size and realistically £8 or $13.

Similar Cubans will be twice the price ....

    but not twice as good.!!!

  • ... if you don't have a wooden box, just use a wooden drawer for storage, ensuring a good seal to retain humidity.

  • I don't smoke. I tryed 20 eur cigar 2 years ago and I did not like it much. From what I have seen in shop, cigars costs as much as bottle of single malt whisky - from 40 to 400 eur and more. I am going to choose rather bottle of single malt whisky than a good cigar :)

  • Hi Ralfy

Great video, I enjoy quality cigars & pipes/tobacco with a good whisky.

    Cheers

    Brian
