  • This does work. Have used one through 3 winters now. Much easier getting up in the morning. I often awake a few minutes before my alarm goes off!

  • No thanks, I prefer to smash my little alarm clock which cost 89 euro cheaper :) and I will spend only 3euro to buy new one :))

  • I'm not sure if my face was right at it I would wake up.

  • bullshit

  • you can buy them cheap at Telephones Online

  • me encanto!!!!!

  • well on a bright summer morning I don't even get up sooo.... afraid nothing's gonna work for me..

  • what if u sleep, facing the other way?

  • @skitsnack1 You'll see the moon

  • @skitsnack1 thats exactly what i was thinking haha

  • @skitsnack1 simple, you have to buy two, or maybe three...

  • @skitsnack1 Because light can't cross your body.

  • Bought it thuseday for 120 euro.

  • @Bule1976 I`m just wondering if it really works after 5 months of use. Seems to be a nice gadget.

  • @Wopeltinger In the first few months it worked like a charm and i'm sure it will work that way again when the days get shorter. That's why i got it. I have a hard time waking up when it's still dark outside. During the summertime i usually already wake up before the "alarm" goes off.

So to really answer your question i would have to wait till the autumn/winter but my guess is that i'll be able to say "Yes, it works for me.

  • @Wopeltinger Btw, the one i got is the one where you can plugin a usb stick with sound files. This makes it possible to wake up with any kind of sound. Which is a good thing because after a while i got used to the sound of birds. Then switched the sound to something urban and that did the trick. In time i'll be able to switch it back again.

  • how much it costs?

  • am thinking of buying this =)

  • What if I am sleeping with my fucking back to the fucking light!

  • THIS IS NOTHING NEW .....LOL

  • I want that chick to wake me up instead

  • I guess you can say I would like to awaken her with my morning wood....

  • what if i never wake up?

  • 300 Lux. LOL. That's not even the sunlight you're getting on a VERY clouded day.

  • Bulb lasts 8 months and cannot be replaced.

  • ummm... cortisol is more widely known as the 'stress hormone'.

  • @pjasnos Yes, but not in the way you think of it. Cortisol is beeing used in stress. So you need more cortisol if under stress. If you wake up like this, you will get more cortisol which is good.

  • Buy a Lux light, and a timer, save money

  • This is a great idea, but why does it have to cost so much? For that price it better at least play music from my iPod! I read the bulbs burn out. : (

  • if you sleep with your head in the pillow, you're pretty fucked.

  • If you don't like waking up on dark winter mornings, check out WAKE UP THE TOWN.

Philips are attempting to wake up the northernmost town on the planet, high up in the Arctic Circle, where there's no sun for 4 months in winter. It's the ultimate test for the Wake-up Light.

See the film on YouTube on philipswakeupthetown channel.

  • @bloodydoorsoff

I just watched the trailer for 'Wake Up The Town'. Have Philips really taken the Wake-up Light to the North Pole? It looks like a really cool experiment.

  • I normally wake up face down into my pillow or with blanket pulled over my head so...

  • A perfect gift :)

  • This is how it works cos I bet this is some gimmick: all it doe is shine an annoying light in your eyes. Not really rocket science, but they try to make it look that way. This would work as well as someone forcing your eyes open and shining a flashlight in them.

  • @ubertomadachi nothing can wake me up :S, even this device just unplug it or remove the battery then go back again to my lovely sweet sleezzZZZZZZ

  • @WoundedSnake LOL

  • I bet buying a timer for your lights would be cheaper.

  • What if your one of those people who sleeps with their head under the cover like me,,?

  • i want to buy one ! but it's too expansive !!!!

I HAVE NO MONEY BECAUSE I'M UNEMPLOYED !!!

PLEASE GIVE ME ONE FOR FREE !!!

    PLEASE

  • @netix75 you dont need to wake up early if you're unemployed. i would sleep late

  • @19dec1981

    giga lol

    you're absolutely right !!!!

  • @netix75 if you don't have to get up for a job.. why would you need the damn thing.. xD

  • I want it so badly!!! but its too expensive! :( It not posible that only phillips has tought of that... I mean, sure there must be a cheaper simpler one of another brand...

  • So instead of throwing my alarm across the room in the morning, I'll be throwing a light across the room.

  • Ok.. so what if i was not facing the light????

  • way to expensive.

  • i doubt his effectivity ..

in my bedroom , i just have normal curtains.. so obviously , when the night turns in to morning , and the sun starts to rise , light starts to shine , trough the curtains...

' thats the effect the wake up light is creating also '

but i aint waking up from that , untill my alarm goes off , or something

so i say , NOPE it wont wake you without still been tired

  • Im gonna get it from someone who didnt needed it (free) yaaay excited to try out!

  • I have this lamp, it's awesome, especially for those with Seasonal Affective Disorder

  • deaf people have been using this system for ever since....

  • You know, Phiips invent technology. I really like their strategy.

We see now so many brands who only copies and massproduces.

You will see. after a couple months there will be another company with same light as here, with another name.

  • i'd like to wake her up.... with my morning wood

  • It is called "morning bread", stupid pig.

  • what the fuck is morning bread? i want to put something in her oven, but it's not bread.

  • @InfinityDose

    show your wood, baby

  • they need to make one, wich steams in your face!

    *monday morning*

Me: "damn again Monday morning -.-'

Object: *pisses in your face with hot water*

Me: "god damn it! I hate showers"

what Do I want to say? I HATE MONDAY MORNING!

  • me too :)

  • I have just ordered mine, though the new one. They are a bit expensive, £130.

  • I WANT IT OMG! where can i buy? i hope that's not too expansive.

  • What if you usually wake up at 1 pm with all your room already lighted by sunlight?

  • what happens if it's a cloudy day?

  • The point of this is to make it appear that sunlight is there even if it's not. It creates a biochemical pattern for your body to follow. "to increase the production of cortisol, the energy hormone..." See?

  • hahahaha nice thought

  • what happens if you are suffering from a hangover...

  • @subbd maybe future models will include a 'hangover light option' xD

  • What if you lie on the other side? Should you buy 2 wakeup lights and have them at each side of the bed? :)

  • u know, it's would be cool if u could plug in a 5.1 soundsystem in the clock. so u can hear naturesound around u that slowly getting in higher sound.

im sorry for my bad language ):

But it would be cool! :D

  • omg i want one

  • so it pretty does what the sun does..

  • sorry, I wasn't reading the other comments :">

  • but what happens if you are sleeping with your face on the other side?

  • that's right. when you are turned away from the sun it's completely dark :P

  • shoot the fucking liiiiiiiiiiights

  • This invention was allready introduced by Daymaker, Nevertheless, it does work very well (even you are turned with your face out of the light)

  • What happend if you don't "see" the light when you are sleeping?

    Va, digo, no se jaja.

  • The thing is overpriced. I could probably do the same with a couple hundred watts of halogen bulbs and some home automation stuff.

  • Funny to hear cortisol being described as an energy hormone. Generally in psychology research it's described as a stress hormone, with morning grumpiness correlating with the highest levels of cortisol during the day. I'd prefer not to raise my cortisol levels.

  • Que babaquice.

  • Pfff, i wake up alert with my Ugly Duckling - Left Behind ringtone!

    now thats alert...

  • if you tern the other side . do you get up?

  • I would need one...cuz here in sweden its fakking dark almost all day during wintertime...gets pitch black allready at like 3pm..to expensive for me though

  • Lol... This thing is what my AP bio teacher thought about... This is to you Mr. Valjakka.

  • mmmmmmk, i need one. now.

I live in a basement and have problems getting up in the morning.

buttttt - they should have added something to help you get to sleep as well - like fading light!

  • there is another supplier on ebay that sells a similar alarm clock with the fading light featuring simulating dawn...

  • it does have a dusk simulator as well

  • how much is it in GBP?

  • about £100

  • Its a great idea but a bit on the steep side price wise for us mere mortals.

  • thanks for your comment

  • It seems smart to wake up to light, but hey, what happens if you move during the night so instead of get the light in the face, you get it in your back...! :P

  • Buy two =D =p

  • it's a lamp it lights up the room, so it should still work

  • The light will wake you up for a particular percentage, but a sound will have to finish the job. The good point is that you are already x% awake when the birds start beeping, so you're smoothly brought to awakeness...

  • Bought it yesterday, way too expensive but I'm happy to pay it!! This device is so freakin' awesome!!!!!

  • I think I need a room full of 'em..
