@Wopeltinger In the first few months it worked like a charm and i'm sure it will work that way again when the days get shorter. That's why i got it. I have a hard time waking up when it's still dark outside. During the summertime i usually already wake up before the "alarm" goes off.
So to really answer your question i would have to wait till the autumn/winter but my guess is that i'll be able to say "Yes, it works for me.
@Wopeltinger Btw, the one i got is the one where you can plugin a usb stick with sound files. This makes it possible to wake up with any kind of sound. Which is a good thing because after a while i got used to the sound of birds. Then switched the sound to something urban and that did the trick. In time i'll be able to switch it back again.
@pjasnos Yes, but not in the way you think of it. Cortisol is beeing used in stress. So you need more cortisol if under stress. If you wake up like this, you will get more cortisol which is good.
If you don't like waking up on dark winter mornings, check out WAKE UP THE TOWN.
Philips are attempting to wake up the northernmost town on the planet, high up in the Arctic Circle, where there's no sun for 4 months in winter. It's the ultimate test for the Wake-up Light.
See the film on YouTube on philipswakeupthetown channel.
I just watched the trailer for 'Wake Up The Town'. Have Philips really taken the Wake-up Light to the North Pole? It looks like a really cool experiment.
This is how it works cos I bet this is some gimmick: all it doe is shine an annoying light in your eyes. Not really rocket science, but they try to make it look that way. This would work as well as someone forcing your eyes open and shining a flashlight in them.
I want it so badly!!! but its too expensive! :( It not posible that only phillips has tought of that... I mean, sure there must be a cheaper simpler one of another brand...
in my bedroom , i just have normal curtains.. so obviously , when the night turns in to morning , and the sun starts to rise , light starts to shine , trough the curtains...
' thats the effect the wake up light is creating also '
but i aint waking up from that , untill my alarm goes off , or something
so i say , NOPE it wont wake you without still been tired
The point of this is to make it appear that sunlight is there even if it's not. It creates a biochemical pattern for your body to follow. "to increase the production of cortisol, the energy hormone..." See?
Funny to hear cortisol being described as an energy hormone. Generally in psychology research it's described as a stress hormone, with morning grumpiness correlating with the highest levels of cortisol during the day. I'd prefer not to raise my cortisol levels.
I would need one...cuz here in sweden its fakking dark almost all day during wintertime...gets pitch black allready at like 3pm..to expensive for me though
It seems smart to wake up to light, but hey, what happens if you move during the night so instead of get the light in the face, you get it in your back...! :P
The light will wake you up for a particular percentage, but a sound will have to finish the job. The good point is that you are already x% awake when the birds start beeping, so you're smoothly brought to awakeness...

Fail, it says wakeup to light but they incorperated various natural sounds ie birds chirping or a waterfal to go off at the said wakeup time isn't that waking up to sound.
This does work. Have used one through 3 winters now. Much easier getting up in the morning. I often awake a few minutes before my alarm goes off!
