@FireBomberBassist I'll admit I only watched it after finishing the superb Macross Frontier, so I was a little spoiled going in.

That said, I felt like M7 had some great ideas that would have been serviced better by a shorter run. The series' 50 episodes stretched the plot out too thin in many places, having to resort to throwaway plots and "villain of the week" episodes that served no purpose in the overall story. I actually found Dynamite 7 better than M7 for that reason.

@Canti654 That's how alot of shows were done at the time this was around, lots of episodes, villian of the week, check. It took a while to grow on me but when it did I enjoyed every episode, made me feel like I was back in the 90s. Dynamite was good too.

it might just be the particular sub you watched, becuas eon the 1 I watched it was definately Holy Lonely Night.

Its just because some subbers tend to think taht some words come out differently, or in some cases its a mistype becuas ethe version I watched had lots of errors in it.

I am referring to Nekki Basara of course. For he possesses the three things necessary for being completely awesome (in life or anime): Guts, A burning passion, and 3rd (and probably most importantly) A complete and total lack of concern for one's own survival!

you can watch macross 7 without watching the ones that came before it. The show gives a brief history lesson at the start of the first few episodes.

Not exactly, but I'd say SDF should be an essential watch for any anime fan really. It's great and has more emphasis on the mecha/fighting than pretty much any other major Macross series. There's also some character connections and reaccuring ones...

But there is a big time leap between them. You CAN watch 7 without seeing SDF, but I think you'd have a better experience watching 7 after SDF.

That or you could just watch the movie Do You Remember Love, which is an alternate version.
