  • QUEER haha would've been more accurate i don't know why they never went with that o_O

  • did these guys blow each other backstage ?

  • what does dr. may say at 5:58? Throwing fresh light? Throwing first light?

  • noticed the live clips from expo92 - used to have this on tape, always shred-meister steve vai reduced to playing rhythm guitar for brian! hahaha ;-)

  • he is much better than jimi hendrix

  • @04jhayes idk about that one, Hendrix's rhythm, phrasing and musicianship (like improvising) are too much for Brian. you must not play music.

  • @daljin1991 I don't know if I'd say one is better than the other. Hendrix might have been better with improvisation, while May's creativity is unmatched (youtu.be/POsOP3TF-XY?t=1m53s). Both are certainly virtuosos of the guitar.

  • 3:23 why does Brian use tape on his strings near tremolo arm?

  • 4:14 yeah i sleep with this guit.... jhjhrgdthr

  • your not poor anymore, my friend

  • I find this very fascinating. Thanks for posting this.

  • Is there a toggle switch on his guitar ? (pickups)

  • @xRaZ0r38 There are six slider switches (not toggles, I doubt they made small toggle switches when the guitar was built) - for each pickup an on/off, and a phase-reverse switch which basically flips the output of the pickup 180 degrees. When you combine two or more pickups out of phase, the common frequencies are cancelled out - the upshot is a squealy sound full of harmonics. The BoRhap solo is middle and neck out of phase with the amp, or rather amps, full up and giving it the beans!

  • @Axpoet Okay , thank you ! :D

  • Such a humble, lovely man. And one of the most incredible guitar players ever.

  • now I love Brian May, but he did not come up with palm-muting, whatever he says.

  • gnamp. Now you are getting just a bit too picky. He didn't say he invented the palm-muting technique, he said it became his trademark. Simply how he plays. Great guitarist. One of the best.

  • His is. He's my very favourite

    /watch?v=HrIow7q8N-g

  • gnamp. He is one of the best. But still don't hear him say he invented palm-muting. I know many guitarists before him did palm-muting. I am a session guitarist and I use it from time to time.

  • Yeah, ok- I heard you. I didn't say he said he invented it, did I?

I suspect he didn't come up with it instinctively as he says he did- I maintain he will have got that elsewhere. Brian May himself says no one creates in a vacuum. And what's more, I'll submit that it isn't his trademark. When I think of Brian May, I don't think of palm-muting. When I think of palm-muting, I don't think of Brian May. It's a common device employed by guitarists from time to time. Nothing more.

  • gnamp. Relax. I think we are on the same page. I don't think of anyone when I think of palm-muting. We are splitting hairs. He just seems to be describing his techniques. Let's leave it at that. He is an innovative guitarist. I also don't know of anyone else who uses a coin like he does.

  • Agreed :). Did you know that if you buy the DigiTech Brian May effects pedal you get an English sixpence with it?

  • gnamp. Funny you bring that up. I use a Digitech Tube Effects Rack Mount Unit, but not a Brian May pedal style. Mines about 13 years old. Always thought that his strings must take a beating using a sixpence. Keep Yourself Alive

  • I dunno, I reckon it works both ways... it's such a common, instinctive technique that it's not really a stretch that Brian would've arrived at it himself. Hell, I did ... (that was more to do with trying to mimic the start of "I Feel Fine" though, and I was just a silly kid!)

    Cool video though, I reckon!

  • legend

  • Imagine for years the people who sat in front of that fireplace and had no idea they were sat next to parts of a guitar that would shape popular music!
