@GHOS7v i cant remember the details very well but i'll try.basically its the same as how harold explained it in 3: after getting splashed by that FEV gunk he became a ghoul n so on n so forth. however, if you look at harold in 2, in this very video even, you will notice the small sprout on his head, which he even then calls bob if you ask him about it. in 3 if you ask him how he got there he will tell you that "bob" kept on growing upon his head until harold couldnt move, then engulfed him.

@GHOS7v certain dialog will also make him mention being hit by a strange liquid a long time ago, although it was so long ago and bob has changed him so much that its mostly a blur(although considering the time span betwen 1 and 3 its amazing he can remember that much), further supporting the theory that he is the same ghoul we all know and love. that enough info 4 ya? lol

He was knocked unconscious just as he saw Richard Gray get knocked into a vat of the F.E.V. by a robotic arm. Harold managed to get out of there somehow...because when he awoke, he was in the desert, and already starting to mutate into a "ghoul".

If u paid attention to Harold(Bob) in fallout 3, u would know that he had the tree growing for several years on his head, he just settled down in oasis where it finally took root

Think about, how can Harold be in New Vegas, if he is a tree, stuck to the f***ing floor? Or you killed him in the Oasis quest, now assuming since New Vegas is 10 yrs into the future of Fallout3, but, it is possible in a DLC, you travel to the wasteland, and as a special treat, if you have the Broken Steel DLC in the Fallout 3 game, you get to meet the Lone Wanderer/ChosenOne/VaultDwelle­r. Oh and as a quest you can put all of Harold's organs together and free him from the tree.
