I am not a vetran, but unfortunatly im a 13 year old girl and the funny part about this is I learned I have PTSD from happy tree friends. (I love flippy btw..) anyways my tramatization has been because of my mother and my past couple years old living.. im VERY easily startled and it seems that my nightmares are either always just black pictures or it's about gore,my gore, I also dream of being taken away from my dad by force to be locked ina box, and wow my mom tried to take me away from my home
why dont they send my son back to puerto rico and have him treated here and be near his family he all alone in georgia and nows no one he is not a criminal hes a good man ,father, son and husband he is a police officer in puerto rico why does the army treat him like a criminal and have him in jail giving him pills over medicating him he is not a criminal he is a patiente please send my son back home
my son a medic of the national guard of puerto rico served in iraq and in january 2 ,2011 he and two of his friends were sent on a mission and they were bombed and his two friends died my son has been in fort gorden georgia since march of 2011 in treatment and they are giving him more then 23 pills a day since last month november 7 the army comander put my son in a county jail and as of today is still there pending a court marshel is that the way to treat a soldier with ptsd i am very worried

@doraemon8061 PTSD is no joke! I have it too from several bad experiences and am afraid to sleep or leave my home. Don't slep in the dark and have chimes attached to all doors. In fact I stay up ALL NIGHT till daylinght comes... I just can't sleep. Have to be careful what I watch on here even or it triggers me:(
Listen not only soldiers receive PTSD..I was physically, sexually, and emotionally abused for a decade by my biological father.. so learn of it or shut the hell up hater. Frankly I think those who suffer with PTSD has a keen sense of what life really is all about.. and have no tolerance like the bullshit spewed from iditarod9 . Suppose you are going to say that childrens minds can take that kind of crap ??? Idiot.
I experience all these symptoms on a daily basis for almost a year now. I feel the high anxiety is starting to get worse is there some kind of medication for this?
@iditarod9 you need the most help i think. This is very real dispite what you think. Not everyone has the same story or sees things in ones life you should never see. I found a close friend who was also my bestfriends mother dead in her car due to her taking her own life frozen completely from sitting in there for 2 days in -37C. That is not normal. I don't think itis fair for you to place judgment on anyone mabe you should take a look at yourself , you were the one who researched PTSD, why ?

So what! Everybody suffers from this PTSD crap. It is part of everyday living and some people just can't seem to live without whining everyday of their lives.People who volunteer for the armed service have NO bitch coming what-so-ever. You knew when you joined you could be subjected to wars and battle. You also know that claiming PTSD can get you a free meal ticket for life. It is the easiest alleged syndrome to FAKE! Quit haunting the halls of the VA and get a job like I did after I got back.
@iditarod9 It's unfortunate you feel that way. Denying that PTSD is a problem helps no one. Every branch of the military, as well as the VA, acknowledges it is real and constitutes a major and growing problem for returning troops. While you were able to move on after your service but a certain proportion of veterans cannot.
@EmoryUniversity) This whole PTSD thing started during the Vietnam campaign because of the military drafting too many 60's style hippie type drug abusers and other social misfits who were incorrigibles to begin with and not fit for public employment. Drugs and alcohol are cheap and easy to acquire in the service and that suited these misfits to a tea. They came home and started hanging around the VA's claiming the service turned them into drug abusers and alcoholics. PTSD is a 90% B.S. ruse!

@TheYummyMummy01) Some cases are real, but more cases are from phonies milking the system. What is the country too do, put everyone on disability relief that has difficulty coping? Life in general is traumatic and everyone cries at times, get over it and get a job and quit sucking the government teat. This country cannot keep supporting every whiner that steps up for a hand-out! I'm a vet and work for a living!
@iditarod9 wow your an idiot.....yes everyones mind works like yours....your so awesome and we are so lame...thanks...there is nothing wrong with you when you destroy your house, your covered in blood and have no idea why...let me guess the job you got when you got home was a dickhead police officer....awesome
@angrynhpatriot) Actually I'm in business for myself and wouldn't consider being a policeman because their are too many scum running the streets these days murdering them. I personally know some guys who are trying to get that good old 100% check for life and lead completely normal family lives. They brag about what B.S. stories they tell the VA doctors. Three of them never saw a minute of combat either. Most PTSD claimants were misfit flakes before they went into the service and now it's payday
@iditarod9 im sorry but the its the police that are crazy and go around shooting inocent people all the time....watch a couple hours of police brutality videos....maybe the police wont be so heroic inyour eyes...myself i see them as the scum of the earth
@angrynhpatriot ) I know you can't be serious, police do not shoot innocent people except for very rare occasions in mistaken identity or collateral fire. You obviously have a personal Axe too grind concerning the police and there are proper Chanel's to air those gripes of yours. If you have been wronged by the police, take it to a lawyer! BTW..if you are a white boy though, you can forget it!.... Police brutality is a black persons racket!
@iditarod9 a black persons racket...boy are you a fucking idiot...really..a 21 yr white women shot point blank in the eye with ruber bullet in boston..crime.going to red sox game..i could go on all day...you think they are wonderfull because you are either a wana be cop or have just never seen the reality...very soon people like you will either be the enemy of the people or with the people..liberty is rising..scum who pervert the constitution will be brought to justice..im not black im american
@iditarod9 You sad, sick, soul. There will always be someone faking something, no matter what. PTSD for those of us who truly have this dibilitating syndrome, is a nightmare from the moment we wake up to the moment we go to sleep every day all day. It takes a lot of help to get back into the working world. We work as hard as we can to re-join the world and people like you make us believe avoidance is the safest path.
@1J2T3C4 the sad thing is that once diagnosed with ptsd you are branded for life... i cant get life insurance of any kind,,, im on heavily sedatating meds,,, i have severe mood swings,,, and i cant get a decent job because every time they do a background check they find that i have severe social issues... i cant even get a decent volunteer job...i agree with you... it is a dibilitating illness and finding a job is hard enough without having ptsd to put on your application...
@1J2T3C4 ) I never contended that there isn't legitimate cases of PTSD and had a girl friend who claimed she had it and she was a pain in the ass! I talked to a few of her relatives and they all agreed she was always the type of person that wanted everything her own way or she would go into pouting fits. PTSD type behavior!
@iditarod9 You may not suffer from PTSD, but you obviously have some rage issues. Mental Health issues are no less real or damaging than physical injury. Perhaps you were fortunate enough to be reared in a nurturing home that afforded you the necessary integration of ego and identity which made you better equipped to process the trauma of War. If so, you are fortunate. ...I'm not sure what sort of job you have, but I'm assuming (and hoping) that it isn't in Social Svcs.
@derickwade ) Yes, I'm enraged when I see a wrong being committed and bogus PTSD claims is one of the wrongs being perpetrated against the taxpayers. PTSD occurs in civilian life also and it is not used as an excuse to get a free meal ticket for life from the government. Check the histories of these people who claim PSTD and you will find that 90% of them were drug and alcohol abusers or had mental instability before they signed up! Try that PSTD B.S. in the private sector and see what happens!
@iditarod9 Cease your rants about a topic you obviously have no real knowledge of. And please direct me 2 the report stating that 90 % were suffering from some mental illness or drug dependency before enlisting. If that is true (and let's be honest, you made that # up to defend your uneducated opinions) but if it were true than the Military must be incompetent to not screen for such things. ..Read a few books on the structure of trauma and on where our tax dollars r really spent
@derickwade ) During draft times in the Viet Nam era the military drafted all sorts of incorrigibles to send to Nam and as long as they were breathing they were fit enough.Thats the era when PTSD became the clicky thing to claim to get a check from the government for life instead of going to work after they got back. You don't like the truth and thats your problem! PTSD is a ruse for all but a small % who actually deserve help and their claims at the VA's is impeded by the phonies lined up.
@iditarod9 Wow. No wonder you were in the military; clearly you cannot use logic, nor reason to understand the depth and breadth of mental conditions. You are a fucking joke. It's a damn shame you didn't die over there, nobody would miss you.
@greysquare7 ) I can tell by your vitriol comment that you are one of those deadbeats I refer too that haunt the halls of a VA to get your freebie for life for doing nothing! My comments are accurate and only the dead beats like you get offended.
@iditarod9 No, see I've never had to be a soldier because I'm an intelligent person that can think for themselves, and thus, don't shoot brown people for a living. I actually have PTSD from surviving abuse. Your blatant disregard for an entire category of people, your generalizations lead me to conclude you must have made a fine soldier; just shoot 'em if they're Muslim, right? You're a joke, and so is your career choice. The war on terror is comedy at its finest.
@greysquare7 ) You wouldn't think it so funny if you had the guy standing next too you get his brains splattered on your face. BTW..I have many kills under my belt and looking to get more as soon as possible..! Something very exhilarating about watching a head come apart when struck with a large caliber bullet....
@iditarod9 See what I mean? You're a worthless sack of shit. You'll never be anything better than a soldier. What a damn shame. Ahh well; at least all them kooky 'Merica haters can use you as target practice. :D
@greysquare7 ) I don't want to be anything but a soldier because I love the lifestyle! I just wish some of my targets could be people like you who are traitors to this nation who sit on their yellow-dog complacent asses while real patriots go into harms way. You are a disgusting maggot and parasite for life!
@iditarod9 Lulz. Pathetic. You're a "real patriot"? You're a real brainwash victim. But that's okay, you like it! You thoroughly enjoy being made to feel that you're a useful, productive member of society; just killing brown people to defend 'Merica, right? You're fighting wars that the rich wouldn't send their children into, because you are a disposable piece of meat. Once you're dead, OH WELL! They'll have someone take your place. Your existence is absolutely meaningless. :)
@greysquare7) I've declared my choice of occupation, now lets discuss yours. What do you do for a livelihood? Please tell the truth if you can because you have already eliminated any possibility of being involved in an intelligent endeavor of any kind. Drug dealer perhaps, maybe a pimp, or a pickpocket, porn dealer or one of many scum that abounds in this world these days. If I die today, I'll go with smile on my face knowing I've sent many middle east rats to an early grave before me........!

@iditarod9 What's your number, soldier? You don't deserve to be dignified with a name. When you die, you'll just be another body tossed into the same earth that you so self-righteously sent innocent people into. I love how the army allows people of such low caliber and weak moral fiber to hold semi-automatic weapons. But that's the trade-off, see; you get to play G.I. Joe at the expense of your worthless existence. Fantastic! Bet you feel like a real big boy. You're all grown up now!
@greysquare7 ) Hey fool', if you want to bitch at someone, bitch at the politicians, they are the ones who sent us over here to enjoy this hunt. In case you are unaware of it, you get the same dirt in your face everyone else does and as soon as you die, you are soon forgotten also, except if you are remembered it will be as a yellow-dog traitorous scumbag!
@iditarod9 I'm certainly NOT bitching, believe me! I enjoy the fact that the lowest caliber of people can't find proper employment, and thus, sign themselves up to be eradicated. Why would anyone ever bitch about the beautiful processes of natural selection being rushed to cleanse the world of the weak? Also, I'm interested in finding out why I might be remembered as being "yeller"--lulz. Patriotism, however misguided, is always good for a laugh to those more highly evolved.
@greysquare7 ) Highly evolved from a maggot isn't anything for you to be bragging about! You gutless swine sit on your complacent fat lazy asses while the real men do the fighting for the country. BTW...trash, what did you say your proper employment was?
@iditarod9 Soldier, I'm going to call you 12345, since you haven't given me your number. You see, 12345, I don't need to answer to those lower classed than I. Now be a good boy and run off and pretend that you have a real job and actually matter. I'm sorry, that was unfair; I guess "worm food" is considered a job title in some third world countries.
@greysquare7 ) This will have to be my last response to you because of your inane remarks that resemble the railings of a juvenile nit-wit who beats off too much.
@iditarod9 Wait, you said you had a response, 12345, I must have missed it? Please, go ahead; I love having conversations with the intellectually bereft. Such a blast!
@iditarod9 Well, aren't you just the superhuman lucky puppy then? Shows how much YOU know anyway, assuming PTSD is something only war veterans suffer from. Just because actors can 'do' PTSD in crappy war films doesn't mean EVERYONE'S faking it. And as for thinking having PTSD gets you "a free meal ticket for life" - DREAM ON, MATE. I seriously hope, for your sake, that you never suffer from mental illness in your life, because your comments prove you would NOT be strong enough to deal with it.
@Maerahn ) PTSD is legitimate in extreme cases of battle fatigue but way to many mental defectives and drug users and alcoholics have been allowed to enlist in the armed services and once they get out they haunt the halls of the VA's and claim PTSD for that free government check for life and the phonies know who they are! The tax payers are stuck with the bill supporting the deadbeats..!
@iditarod9 I used alcohol for 2 years after Iraq as medicine and I am going to the VA today for PTSD. I hope that you have a job and can help pay all my fellow service members disability. Get to the doctor soon.
@redtruckclock ) You are no different from any other person who abuses alcohol for various reasons and they all have an excuse for being a drunk. If it isn't this, it is that and alcohol abuse causes depression, so man up and get a job and quit whining. Just because you were in the service, it doesn't guarantee you a free ride for life. Go to work and occupy your mind!
@Maerahn ) PTSD is legitimate in extreme cases of battle fatigue but way to many mental defectives and drug users and alcoholics have been allowed to enlist in the armed services and once they get out they haunt the halls of the VA's and claim PTSD for problems they had before they ever enlisted and then they get in line for that free government check for life and the phonies know who they are! The tax payers are stuck with the bill supporting the deadbeats..!
@iditarod9 How the heck do drug users and alcoholics get into the armed forces? Wouldn't somebody notice something like that during the training process - or am I just being really naive there?
All I know is, I ended up in hospital for 11 months for PTSD and Dissociative Disorder (from something other than war trauma) and I tried like hell to get another job afterwards. Took me well over a year before any employer would even touch me with a ten-foot pole - and no 'meal tickets' came my way.
@Maerahn9) Dug users and alcoholics are known to HIDE their character flaws and can clean up their act before they go down too sign up and once in, it's same-o, same-o. Most legitimate cases of PTSD and other anti-social disorders can be traced back to the persons family life. Abused mentally and physically, some persons do suffer legitimate PTSD syndromes and the like. Women seem to have the disorder from years of spousal abuse also.... I only refer to the deadbeats who line up for a check!
Are you having stress due to a skin disorder? The American Institute of Advanced Medicine has treated thousands of patients. They can eradicate your skin problem for good. They have 25 years of experience ussing FDA approved medication with no known side effect and a 95% success rate.
Dont take their drugs anymore. Take this= Phosphatidyl Serine Matrix. And just to let you know, i KNOW the fluoride is making it worse, because i tested it on myself. Dont drink pop, dont drink caffiene. Only drink steam distilled water with hydrogen peroxide or clover honey. Food grade iodine will reduce your bodies radiation levels. There is alot i would love to tell you about my PTSD journey, but you would never believe me. But heed what i tell you. Their drugs are high in fluoride.
LMAO. I just dont know what to say about that, other than just rediculous. They just throw hyper vigilance in the end. Ofcourse you must realize looking at every object in the room is proof of your higher awareness. It awakens alot of magic actually, its just that a rare amount awaken to find they have access to ther subconscious mind. They try to make out like you are the one who is sick, yet it is because you were subjected to a reality that is nothing short of madness. THEY are asleep
i went though PTSD.i watched my dad trying to stab my mom with a knife..and me and my sister kept yelling him to stop. i remember getting abused alot. throwing tantrums as a kid. trying to run away..watch my dad beat up people. watch my sister get molested by some man...but today..i forgived my father last year. and my mother..after all that truama. i went through recovery with truama. but im still facing symptoms though.
@HelpForMyLife My son just returned from Kandahar, Afghanistan. He's been diagnosed with PTSD. He also had very traumatic first five years of life in a Romanian orphanage. I wish he could be helped quickly but feel very doubtful.
I hate everything about PTSD. Not once has my father ever told me, my sister, or my mother that he loves us. Because of terrible things that happened 40 years ago in Vietnam. I know he loves us but never says it, the anger is always present along with the past. I use to have to wake my father up with a broom because he would swing his fist. He tells us little bits of what happened and they are terrible.
Having stress is just an illusion, i've also been there. What pulled me out of the misery was just 'opening my eyes'. I learned the things that they don't show on TV. I now started changingproject(.)com which is a free video information archive. People should ask themself where the depression comes from, it's all about our mind and science already revealed that everything is connected to eachother and that we create reality by thinking, thoughts with powerful emotions become reality.Do research
I'm curious why PTSD is slapped on parents raising severely autstic children with pervasive behavioral issues like self abuse. I believe we are under extreme prolonged stress. Yes. I know I have nightmares about it. I am hypervigiliant in protecting my son. But then again, I have to be. Take a look at him. I'm so sick of the myopic views associated with certain diagnosis. How about the resilience factor? Isn't that discussed anymore?
i have a lot of the symptoms of this, but i cant remember any traumatic event ive had. this just started out of the blue, while i was on vacation. can anyone expain that? do i really have it or something else?
@primesuspect71 At Emory the drug they are testing is d-cycloserine (DCS). DCS had previously been used in a similar way by the same doctor in the treatment of acrophobia (fear of heights). The PTSD treatment only takes place 5-6 times, I believe, and the DCS dose is only given those 5-6 times.
@CuteChick344 That's terrible. 14 is way too young for any of those things to be happening to you. But at least you know what the problem is and know you're not crazy or anything, it's a medical disorder. Best, best wishes.
@CuteChick344 I was diagnosed in my late 30s with PTSD, for sexual and physical abuse received as early as 8 yrs old at the hands of my father. I'm still trying to find the right combination of meds to help me live a "normal" life, but it will never be that way.
Those psychiatrists help nothing i know from experience, they only give u medication and therapy doesnt work. I heared that neurofeedback is very effective
@pyromaniaknl Actually new approaches to therapy are showing a lot of promise. Virtual reality therapy has been used, for example, in combination with anti-anxiety drugs, and in a relatively short time, PTSD sufferers are able to notice results. Go to Emory's web site and search on Barbara Rothbaum and you will be able to find more.
@EmoryUniversity I had alot of situations that caused my PTST or autism they where not quite sure. They don't want to be associated with a the experience they had which caused there PTST, like you've been in a war or something. Well that i don't have, i do have been stabbed 8 times in my back but i'm not scared to reexperience that situation.
I wonder if there's a therapy to cure this, i can't imagine that there's a non drugs/machinery therapy to cure this?
I'm 23 and i had alot mental problems over the 5-6 years, i was psychotic based on alcohol for a while but got over it mostly quit drinking. Now i experience extreme stress when i have to do surtain things, a friend of my slept here yesterday and in the middle of the night he lights up a sigarette and that sound of the ligher came through me like a slap in the face, also i never sleep good wake up in the middle of the night screaming shaking from fear.
An "expert in the treatment of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder". I have been treated by several of them over the past 35 years. Know what? I still have it.
i can't get over the fact that the original stressor is still there. they keep saying people in ptsd aren't living in the present but it's my opinion they are especially if theres fear of being sent back to iraq for multiple tours. it's usually not just one traumatic even either or single triggers. often it's a life of trauma with a mixture of factors relating and a fear/prevention to keep it from happening again.
Hi I would have liked to hear much more especially the types of therapy needed for variouse types of trauma including multiple unresolved trauma over decadess.
I have endured many shocking traumas in many types of situations incredibly the hypervigilence and startle reactions talked about have actually saved my life in the most incredible way's yet this too in part of my trauma so incredible the way I survived yet no one to share it with Health professionals just wont let me explain help''
@EmoryUniversity Hi thank you so much for responding I am sitting here crying I live in England my first trauma was as a 3 year old I'm52 now please find time to read my profile you will see my web site details on my site you can read some of my early traumas and of how I lost my son to a rare Genetic Disorder. (gauchers Disease). I met the Great Jim Watson. see my favorate list little Miss Hannah, to inspire you and others in to stem Cell Research Re Epigenetics Evolution see the link.
@EmoryUniversity hI I have long believed I have a Genetic Predisposition that influenced my P.T.S.D. The external Environment Influences talked about in the Epigenetics Evolution Video make sense to me you could research this regarding P.T.S.D. And in conjunction with Rare Genetic Disorders and the Trauma of losing a child it's (Global Genes for Jeans day) this 28th Febuary (odesofsurvival).
it happend after expousure to a terrifying event or ordeal in which grave physical harm, you have to learn how to cope with troubling memories. and talk to therapist or counsellor and more yoga, shiatsu, reflexology.
I have PTSD due to rape from my brother.
It has cost me marriage, my two sons, EVERYTHING.

PTSD is a 90% B.S. ruse!

@TheYummyMummy01) Some cases are real, but more cases are from phonies milking the system. What is the country too do, put everyone on disability relief that has difficulty coping? Life in general is traumatic and everyone cries at times, get over it and get a job and quit sucking the government teat. This country cannot keep supporting every whiner that steps up for a hand-out! I'm a vet and work for a living!

angrynhpatriot 7 months ago
@angrynhpatriot) Actually I'm in business for myself and wouldn't consider being a policeman because their are too many scum running the streets these days murdering them. I personally know some guys who are trying to get that good old 100% check for life and lead completely normal family lives. They brag about what B.S. stories they tell the VA doctors. Three of them never saw a minute of combat either. Most PTSD claimants were misfit flakes before they went into the service and now it's payday

So...FU** YOU !!!

PTSD type behavior!
iditarod9 6 months ago
@iditarod9 You may not suffer from PTSD, but you obviously have some rage issues. Mental Health issues are no less real or damaging than physical injury. Perhaps you were fortunate enough to be reared in a nurturing home that afforded you the necessary integration of ego and identity which made you better equipped to process the trauma of War. If so, you are fortunate. ...I'm not sure what sort of job you have, but I'm assuming (and hoping) that it isn't in Social Svcs.
derickwade 7 months ago

If that is true (and let's be honest, you made that # up to defend your uneducated opinions) but if it were true than the Military must be incompetent to not screen for such things. ..Read a few books on the structure of trauma and on where our tax dollars r really spent
derickwade 7 months ago
@derickwade ) During draft times in the Viet Nam era the military drafted all sorts of incorrigibles to send to Nam and as long as they were breathing they were fit enough.Thats the era when PTSD became the clicky thing to claim to get a check from the government for life instead of going to work after they got back. You don't like the truth and thats your problem! PTSD is a ruse for all but a small % who actually deserve help and their claims at the VA's is impeded by the phonies lined up.
iditarod9 7 months ago
@iditarod9 Wow. No wonder you were in the military; clearly you cannot use logic, nor reason to understand the depth and breadth of mental conditions. You are a fucking joke. It's a damn shame you didn't die over there, nobody would miss you.

Maerahn 5 months ago
@Maerahn9) Dug users and alcoholics are known to HIDE their character flaws and can clean up their act before they go down too sign up and once in, it's same-o, same-o. Most legitimate cases of PTSD and other anti-social disorders can be traced back to the persons family life. Abused mentally and physically, some persons do suffer legitimate PTSD syndromes and the like. Women seem to have the disorder from years of spousal abuse also.... I only refer to the deadbeats who line up for a check!

@primesuspect71 At Emory the drug they are testing is d-cycloserine (DCS). DCS had previously been used in a similar way by the same doctor in the treatment of acrophobia (fear of heights). The PTSD treatment only takes place 5-6 times, I believe, and the DCS dose is only given those 5-6 times.

i can't get over the fact that the original stressor is still there. they keep saying people in ptsd aren't living in the present but it's my opinion they are especially if theres fear of being sent back to iraq for multiple tours. it's usually not just one traumatic even either or single triggers. often it's a life of trauma with a mixture of factors relating and a fear/prevention to keep it from happening again.
