In my opinion, Hitler's greatest blunder was his own pride in wanting Stalingrad so bad, that even with a high risk of losing the war, he would continue to try and take it. Stalingrad and allied air raids were the the main causes of their defeat. If Hitler never invaded Russia and vice versa, Germany would definitely have had the man power and supplies to hold off Britain and America in the west.

Germans lost battle of Moscow and therefore were stopped in 1941 - 1942, in February 1943 the Soviets had decisive victory over Germany in the battle of Stalingrad. After that Germans started to loose. Finally in the summer 1943 they lost another 2 major battles battle of Kursk and Dniepr offensive. So Germany lost afterwards. The oil campagain began in 1944, Polesti operation was in august 1943, when the Soviets already won all crucial battles.

@BandOfBrothers25 The reason why the Red Army lost so many men is because their commanders didn't care about the number of lives lost. They just threw men into battle with little training and kept on attacking even when they knew their men would die. I remember reading about a particular occurence where the Russians had to grenade their dead out of the way to attack!
Soviets were using those tactics under pressure of collapse during the the first year.
Late in 1944-45 Germans would resolve to exactly the same tactics.
Germans were mobilizing 13-14 and sending them against Russian tanks on bicycles. It just happens that after Russians moved into Germany territory , Germany collapsed in 2 months. If Germany resisted at least for year , German losses will be greater then Russian losses.
When Axis armies(not just Germans) were on defensive 44-45 they had more causalities then Soviets. Causalities have nothing with offense/defense since the end of WW1. Definitely closer to the end of war Soviets outclassed Germans never mind the rest of axis satellites who were just moving targets.

Look up "Chief Culprit: Stalin's Grand Design to Start World War Two" The Red army could not cope with the strong and formidable German army. The Waffen SS was so badly outnumbered and was able to punch right through Russian defenses with almost apparent ease. Even as late as 1944, the Red Army was taking terrible losses, EVEN AT THE BATTLE OF BERLIN!
At the battle of Berlin Soviets lost less then Germans did.
In fact Soviets were stormed Berlin way more successfully then Germans did with Leningrad , Stalingrad ....
Germans had imitative due to surprise attack and Blietzcrieg. It took Soviets more then a year to realize how to deal with blitzkrieg, once the find a way they fought with Germans as equals.
I would say closer to the 1944 Soviets were superior to Germans in firepower, initiative, morale and training as well.

@yahooabuser The Wehrmacht never used "blitzkreig" I think you need to do your research. It was a propaganda term. Some opponents took more casualties to retreating Germans than to attacking units. They were experts at defensive warfare, they had an elastic setup that would have been impenetrable had the lines not been so thin. Look up men like Otto Skorzeny or Walter Model who's defensive type warfare would change the battle zone forever.
Blitzkrieg was used by journalists to describe Nazi German tactics during 38-42 , Germans called it differently By 1941 Germans had more experience then Soviets They just defeated multiple countries and brought that experience to the east
Soviets learned from Germans hard way (5 mils dead during 10 months) but by 1943 were able to introduce new original techniques and to outdo Germans. Since 1944 Germans (axis soldiers not included) were loosing more on daily base then soviets in the east

In my opinion, Hitler's greatest blunder was his own pride in wanting Stalingrad so bad, that even with a high risk of losing the war, he would continue to try and take it. Stalingrad and allied air raids were the the main causes of their defeat. If Hitler never invaded Russia and vice versa, Germany would definitely have had the man power and supplies to hold off Britain and America in the west.

On the Eastern front Axis armies lost about 6 mils including 4.3 mils who were members of the Third Reich military forces.
Soviets lost about 10.5 millions, (half during the first 9 months of war)
After mid 1942 losses were more or less 1:1.
After the end of the 1943 Soviets were loosing less then axis
Soviets did an excellent job starting 1943 better then Germans did

Without heaving their bombers Nazi soldiers were nothing special. Just asphalt soldiers in cool uniforms. Anti Nazi partisan freedom fighters were much braver then Nazi soldiers and much better fighters.

According to them, 800 000 people were executed. and around 8 million imprisoned during the whole Stalin's period (30 years). Just for comprasion in 1999 year in US there were 2.5 million prisoners, while under Stalin's period the number of prisoners in each year of his authority was never exceeding 2 millions.

Germans lost battle of Moscow and therefore were stopped in 1941 - 1942, in February 1943 the Soviets had decisive victory over Germany in the battle of Stalingrad. After that Germans started to loose. Finally in the summer 1943 they lost another 2 major battles battle of Kursk and Dniepr offensive. So Germany lost afterwards. The oil campagain began in 1944, Polesti operation was in august 1943, when the Soviets already won all crucial battles.

@Vort3xz Wikipedia says that their was 5300 Soviet tanks compared to about 2300 German tanks, now, as for the Battle of Moscow, only 1/2 of all German vehicles were servicable due to weather conditions and logistical issues. A difference in 300 tanks, as compared to about a 1:5 ratio of field guns. Like I said, Germany was outproduced because of allied heavy bombardment.

In order to attack succesfully you should have the ratio 3:1 (attackers:defenders), considering that the Soviets were attackers in this battle, we can see that the tank ratio was 1.25:1, and they've won anyway. Yes my numbers are correct 3444 against 2758 German tanks, cos according to the russian sources 2000 of Soviet tanks were reserved and didn't take a part in the battle.

Yes all of the German snypers (total 40-50) were great.
Good that Germans could not train snipers on a large scale. Soviets had a sharpshooter in every platoon.
In Ukraine Nazi pigs were afraid of resistance fighters but they were really brave against civilians (women, children and elders)
When Soviets occupied Germany not a single soul tried to resist. Everyone became a snitch for the Commie regime and joined communist party in a year.

Just because Nazi killed millions and millions of eastern Slavs (Mostly women, children elders) did not mean they could not utilize some of them.
Romans constituted 60% of their army from the conquested locals. Nazi Germans needed slaves so they used parts of Poles, Ukrainians, Belarus and Russians, French to do their dirty work for them. Recruits from the destroyed and genocided nations are usually cheap.

The Soviet army was very prepared but the Germans caught them red handed, massing troops in Poland and lost many divisions. That's why there were no Russians defending the borders.

Defenders usually take less casualties because It's much easier to defend and the Germans did a great job, suffering less losses than the defending Russians, but they were attacked from all fronts and ultimately lost the war.

They just threw men into battle with little training and kept on attacking even when they knew their men would die. Late in 1944-45 Germans would resolve to exactly the same tactics.
Germans were mobilizing 13-14 and sending them against Russian tanks on bicycles. It just happens that after Russians moved into Germany territory , Germany collapsed in 2 months. If Germany resisted at least for year , German losses will be greater then Russian losses.

When Axis armies(not just Germans) were on defensive 44-45 they had more causalities then Soviets. Causalities have nothing with offense/defense since the end of WW1. Definitely closer to the end of war Soviets outclassed Germans never mind the rest of axis satellites who were just moving targets.

Amount of losses has nothing to do with offense defense. That old formula is not used since 1915.
On the eastern front Soviets lost 10.5 millions Germans and its millions lost 6.1 millions.
Soviets lost 5 mills during the first 12 months of the surprise attack. After that losses were more or less 1:1.
1941-42 Germans were superior in their tactics.
1942-43 They were more or less equal..
1943-44 Soviets became superior in their tactics to Germans (never mind the rest of axis armies)

Look up "Chief Culprit: Stalin's Grand Design to Start World War Two" The Red army could not cope with the strong and formidable German army. Even as late as 1944, the Red Army was taking terrible losses, EVEN AT THE BATTLE OF BERLIN!

Germans had imitative due to surprise attack and Blietzcrieg. It took Soviets more then a year to realize how to deal with blitzkrieg, once the find a way they fought with Germans as equals.
I would say closer to the 1944 Soviets were superior to Germans in firepower, initiative, morale and training as well.

They were experts at defensive warfare, they had an elastic setup that would have been impenetrable had the lines not been so thin. Look up men like Otto Skorzeny or Walter Model who's defensive type warfare would change the battle zone forever.

When Hitler attacked Poland who was ally with Brits and French, he attacked the whole alliance. Never mind that in 1939 Hitler was best friends with Stalin and in in 1941 he attacked Russians.

@yahooabuser He attacked the Soviet union for good reasons. We now know today form documents that Hitler knew the Soviets were going to attack him and it turns out he was right.

And actually Stalin had plans to attach Hitler in early 1943, look up "Chief culprit: Stalin's Grand Design t o Start World War Two." I suggest you stop with your allied tales, they are amusing though.

Oh man Suvorov (Rezun) I hope u don't take his bullshit seriously. Every major historian from both Russian an German sides just laughs at this guys publicatons. Though I have to admit I was reading many of his books a decade ago.
BTW the best security for Germany at that time was to form an alliance with all ts neighbors. Kind of like Nato (EU)
Then again Hitler a thug and a fief, who robbed and terrorized his neighbors, who who would trust that maniac.

The only people who collaborated with Nazi were from occupied countries. France, western Russia etc.
Most of Russian and Ukrainian were recruited in concentration camps for POW's (the alternative was death)
The moment Soviets moved into Germany, Germans started to collaborate. In the east German communist Volk militia had 50,000 after six months
At least Russians etc were fighting under Nazi occupation, Germans immediately submitted and declared themselves communists
