Not many people know the truth about why and how the war actually happened. It all sums up to greed, same as many other similar conflicts. Still today most of the veterans don't even know the truth because they were never told.Communism and Democracy had nothing to do with the Vietnamese Civil war. It was just painted that way.

It really did a good job setting the mood to be a descent into darkness in hope of light at the end of the journey. The psychadelic tones throughout set the events that happened on the boat and the river as surreal and detached from a rational world. Great stuff.

A bit dated now and out of print; however, if you can get your hands on a book called "Nam," buy it. It's a collection of individual stories about experiences in Nam. I read it a round 1982 for the first time. Some parts of it were so funny the back of my head was sore from laughing so hard. Other parts were so disturbing all I wanted to do was curl up and cry. Excellent book...Have read it several times since. Viet Nam...For many, it was, and still is, their own personal apocolypse.
