Very beautiful hymn. I go back many years when we were at home in Sri-Lanka we used to attend benediction and it still touches my heart every time I hear this hymn. I thank my Lord for the gift of the Eucharist.
anyone know of this song," hail holy joseph hail, chaste spouse of grace prevail, pure as the lily flower, in eden's peaceful vail..." and its title????
Rev. Geoffrey Squire and Mr Mark James set the English version of O Salutaris Hostia to the tune 'Jerusalem' at St. Paul's, Landkey in Devon. It would be splended set to that tune with organ and trumpets at Solemn Benediction on some major festival..
@yehshivida It's sung by The Cathedral Singers, and is found on a CD called Catholic Latin Classics that is available through Amazon, among other places. I love many of their renditions, but my favorites are Veni Jesu Amor Mi, and and an Austrian Tantum Ergo from circa 1790. I think Amazon lets you hear brief snippets of each track.
@yehshivida Forgot to add that the Cathedral Singers are directed by Richard Proulx. There are several things by them on You Tube, including a delightful version of O Sanctissima.
What is the hymn tune for this song? I found the song in one of the hymnals I have, but where the tune is usually listed, it just says that it's long meter.
@ellenlinn7 If you could send me the sheet music via scan, that would be much appreciated. I attend a university with lots of music majors, and I would love to sing this at our Catholic center.
our sacred songs are SO BEAUTIFUL. it makes the mass so solemn. i think we should bring back the latin songs and bring back the practices to make the mass more solemn and respected.
It's wonderful to hear again a hymn in Latin, especially this Eucharistic hymn. I e-mailed it to Muslim friend of mine, a Persian from Iran. I hope he doesn't shoot me! LOL.

this is the hymn we use at Our Mother of Perpetual Help in Baclaran. This specific tune, which is familiar to the masses.

@watchful38 That's not funny. Mocking another religion is not what Christ would want us to do.
