  • Like all chiptune trackers it's not hard to create music on once you grasp the concept but if you want to create music like Nullsleep does, good luck to you. There is a reason he writes the music for Nintendo. I would also like to say LSDJ and Nanoloop aren't the only 8-bit music creators; I've even seen 2 aduinos that are programmed to create chiptunes in random sequences within a NES and record what they write for mixing. There are many things out there for writing chiptune music.

  • One of my favorite artist of all time, no doubt.

  • I love the idea of chiptune street performances :D If i get good enough myself maybe it would be something to consider :P

  • 2:40 haha i love that kid! june 21...go skate day.

  • I want to learn how to turn my gameboy into an instrument.

  • @TheSlamHam As a beginner as myself, first you need an LSDJ or Nanoloop for your Gameboy that's how you start off with making chiptune. You can find them on the web or Ebay but I got my LSDJ from the official LSDJ website (which I prefer mostly LSDJ) There's also a LSDJ Wiki once you have your own.

  • Jack Patillo from Rooster Teeth at 1:00

  • HE IS NOT PLAYING ANYTHING THIS IS FAIL

  • @HisRoyalDudeliness lol...you fail with that comment, dipshit

  • I say this tongue in cheek, but it always makes me laugh when people try to look cool doing chiptunes I swear it can't be done. Great tune though.

  • @papasmurf2465

Bah, he's just rocking out like that little kid over there.

  • Kids are going crazy there :P

  • With only 8 bits, this guy has just outplayed what pop culture calls music today.

  • @ernie325 4

  • Comment removed

  • What is the last song?

  • 8-bit..... Why do you need any more?

(ps Am I the only one who finds his shirt fucking hiliarious?)

  • Does he actually DO anything on the GameBoys? I mean, I know he makes the music on them, but does he actually perform anything we hear live? Otherwise I find it a rather pointless show to put on, physically.

  • @SiGhast There is a live mode on the software, so I assume he does play part of it live, then switch to pre-recorded

  • @Dzumeister Ah. Thank you! Does this "live mode" work like a primitive instrument, i.e. you produce sounds by pressing buttons as opposed to putting down notes on a sheet (perform and not write)? I mean, obviously he never does everything we hear all at once, but I mean perhaps play a melody while a beat is going. Or do you rather alter the sound in real-time, like changing pitch and such?

  • @SiGhast The Live mode has a variety of applications. I haven't gotten around to experimenting with it, but you can choose to mute certain channels, change the tempo, change the key it's in, or even write new melodies.

  • @SiGhast Yeah, I use live mode mostly when I play. You can mute, que, and edit the music while it plays. It's not quite an actualy instrument, but after awhile it gets really fluid and it begins to feel like one.

  • What is the chiptunes in the beginning from? I heard it on Anamanaguchi's Dawn Metropolis site, is it theirs?

  • @Dzumeister

    nope

  • @Dzumeister Yes, it's their song.

  • Aah, the people that think we're playing Pokemon through a PA system.

    Nope. LSDJ / Nanoloop.

  • Gosh I remember the first time i heard this... Incredible.

  • Nice shirt!!! Nullsleep ftw!!! xD

  • power up !

  • well huh....just huh...thought I was crazy for dancing to chiptune the way I do, and then saw some of his audience

  • @DylanBStringer91 hate to call you a liar but i am

  • @exitsandman Use Your Head!!! There Are Only 2 Buttons On A Game Boy (A And B) He's Not Playing Music With The Freakin' Game Boy!!! He Is Playing The Game Boy Through A PA!!! Seriously Watch Closely!!! You See Him Dancing And Taking His Hands Off The Gameboy!!! If He Was Actually Playing Music With It, He Wouldn't Take His Hands Off Of It!!!

  • @DylanBStringer91 Hahahah man you're dumb as fuck. He's using a tracking program(e.g. LSDJ, Nanoloop, etc.) that's flashed onto his custom carts. But this guy isn't that good. If you want real chiptune, search up Lo Tek Resistance. Those guys fucking rock.

  • @DylanBStringer91 He created the sounds from scratch, using the gameboy as a synthesizer. He also composed the songs note by note, using something called a "tracker" (a type of sequencer). It is the same process as any other electronic music. What he does "live" is switch the patterns (musical phrases) on the fly, deciding what phrases to play next, in real time. He can also modify the sound in real time via a mixer (Equalizer, filter, cross fade between several gameboys, etc).

  • @DylanBStringer91 obviously you dont know anything about chiptune!

  • I think thats pretty awesome music , but id put a proper basedrum on it coz you can see ppl wanting to start to dance but that gameboy drum sound is just not enough for it

  • wow this song sucks...I've heard better chiptune...Now the music in the credits is awesome...

  • fresh t-shirt ^^

  • Wonderful!

  • @DylanBStringer91 He's making music with gameboys. Thats not just interesting, thats fucking awesome.

  • Really overselling it...for a street performance, that was rather boring music to play.

  • hipsters! hipsters everywhere!

  • +5 stam +8 str letherrr belt :3

  • wow, this is amazing. wish i was there.

  • NICE :D

  • Don't you hate great music which is really spoilt by bad camera work?

  • Nullsleep <3

  • <3 nullsleep

  • Do you know how much talent it takes to make music with a fucking gameboy?

Let me tell you, it's not easy.

So don't go around criticizing music, when you most likely have no musical talent what so ever.

    Fuck off.

  • You make New York, Bravo!

  • At about 1:00 there is this guy in the background. (with a white shirt). He is really getting into this XD

  • Lol at the guy with a pony tail in blue... funny as hell .

  • Now, thats one cosy show there mate!

  • I really wanna go to a live show like this, but there's nothing in my county.

  • DIY it then.

if you want something to happen, make it happen

  • @colechiefcole nothing in your country? it says your from usa? and this says He's in NYC...you do know New york city is in america right? lol

  • i am so looking forward to Datapop 09!

  • is he actually playing something there or basically just dancing to his music?

  • hes playing something.

He just likes to show the music is alive

    ;) hes amazing tbh

  • AFAIK, it can't really be played.

  • kurwa :) dobre

  • What do they use to do this?

I know you use a gameboy and like nanoloop or whatever...

if i were to wanna do this what would i need/ where would i get it?

(don't care about the amplification stuff)

  • Check your message box!

  • I did

    check yours

  • A gameboy (preferably DMG)

the ROMs of LSDJ, Nanoloop or anything else you want,

a flash writer and rewritable cartrige(for as many gameboys you will use)

    and a creative mind

  • Man! this is amazing!!!!!!!!!!! :D great performance, hes in tune with his music, he feels it ;)

  • This dude could have been amazing for the old GBC commercials!

  • he gets so animated when he performs. i truly feel the same way when i listen to his music, some of those people were a wet towel but it didn't phase him. haha

  • Does someone know what the song at 4:22 is?

  • Dobre dobre:D

  • Nice music

  • LITTLE KID IN THE BACKGROUND GOIN' CRAZY!!!! hahahahahahahaha

  • Not really.

  • someone always have to dampen the mood.

  • I was replying to someone saying people only like Anamanaguchi because they use guitars.

  • oh right

    sorry mate

  • he's awesome. :]

  • this is like magic

  • Because this is a lot sicker.

  • No truth behind that easier. It's all in preference. For me, it's easier to sit in front of my DMG and make music. I sit in front of FL and just think "... What am I doing?" I don't like the way it's laid out, the sound is not nearly as pure/legit, (Soundwaves aren't as clean as on the original gameboy...) Plus it's easier to play live and make changes with LSDJ as well as easier to transport a gameboy than a laptop/computer setup.

  • coooooooool <333333333333

  • i bet he's just playing some game while the music goes. :)

  • yea, your completely wrong there bud. hes using a cartrige that he makes the music with. if you dont believe me look up the LSDJ

  • joke

  • haha i got the sarcasm there mate

    dont worry :)

  • YMCK too :)

  • lol; sabrepulse and anamanaguchi

  • truly? prove that you have more talent than this fruit douche.

  • nullsleep=not hardcore chiptuner

  • lmao the ppl look so retarded dancing, its awsome though

  • shame there is no recording of this, its my fave nullsleep track

  • There is, actually.

  • cheers:)

  • Don't listen to those haters, you are made of win.

  • iz dat sum 4chan speak?

  • Never been on 4chan in my life.

    Don't offend me like that.

    I speak how I plz.

  • i loveee nullsleep <3

  • This man is so epic.

  • This I think is my fave chiptune ever, but I don't think he ever released it. Shame, cos I think it is his best piece of work next to the depeche mode mix.

  • w00t* best kind of music ever made CHIPTUNES forever!!!!!!!!!

  • haha check the kid on 2.43

he wishes he was born 9 years ago haha

    he loves it

  • its cool n all, differnent, but i personally dont like it

  • spannerchops- I'm quite sure that he's using two synced LSDJ carts for this song. Some of the sounds those Game Boys are making during this song are, as far as I know, attainable only with LSDJ.

Hmm...I'm really just making assumptions. But, my assumptions are informed and thought out. :D

  • I am pretty sure it's LSDJ nullsleep is like...the godfather of it haha:/ i dunno, but yeah hes syncronised 2 GBs, I think hes using more than 2 carts tho, might be wrong:/

    x

  • Is he running two synced copies of LSDJ here?

  • He's using LSDJ only in this clip. And as far as I know, I don't think he's ever seriously used Nanoloop (to record, perform, etc). His music doesn't have that Nanoloop sound.

  • is he using both nanoloop and lsdj here?

  • Someone can tell me the title of the song at 2:07? THX ;)

  • "Salvation for a Broken Heart"

    (no official recording available, unfortunately)

  • THX 4 speed answer :) Do you know on which album I can found it? I have search about this song on nullsleep's website, but i didnt found it :(

  • sorry, there is no recording of this song that I am aware of. You won't find it on any album.

  • That's a real shame. It's a fantastic track.

  • I saved it as a flash file and converted it to MP3, you might wanna try that, it's an easy and efficient method. I cut out the beginning noises too.

It's so worth it for the song.

  • Yea Jeremiah is well good

  • 2:10 is wen it gets good.

  • nullsleep is the king of lsdj or nanoloops, whatevs hes using these days:)

i love thsi song so much, proper flow.
