The BIG if is IF Andrew is healththy. I will say this..with NO IFS. Dwight Howard IS healthy and will play ON the court. I love Andrew but he can't do much for the Lakers when he is in rehab often. I don't get that excited when I really take the time to think about Dwight. His skills are still fairly raw and he may never have a good shooting touch though he does have excellent overall numbers. Excellence IS a habit like Shaq O'Neal stated. A. B. has been excellent for 1/2 of one season.

I always saw Bynum as a Hakeem type player and Howard a Shaq type player. One is more technically sound and the other is just brutally dominant. Although I'm not saying either is as good as the latter, Howard is too small to reach Shaq's dominance and Bynum's ceiling lowered drastically because of injury.
they are both good, but i would rather have a healthy bynum in my team. dwight cannot shoot at all, bynum can with >50%. dwight's free throw is so inconsistent, meaning better take him out or not let him have the ball the last minute.
defensively, dwight is quicker(hands, legs, reaction time) so he is good to guard anyone, at least temporarily. but andrew is match up to him when guarding bigger guys.

As someone who has watched a lot of Howard and Bynum, I mean A LOT, I have to say this debate is ridiculous. Howard does not get the respect he deserves as one of the most dominant big men of ALL time. He is putting up numbers that have NEVER, yes, NEVER been matched before. Bynum is an effective big man, with a lot of upside, but lets not be ridiculous. This is not even close. Hence why the Lakers (my second favorite team), would drop Bynum in a second to get Howard in Free Agency.

Dwight is way better than Bynum, but Dwight has the problem, that he is very limited offensively...He is a good defender, that dominated with rebounds and blocks, but on O all he can do is push through people and dunk it.
Robin Lopez is better than Bynum. Lopez is going to be a great center. He is 100 times better defender than Bynum. Bynum sucks. Why is there even a comparison with him and Dwight Howard out there? That's just dumb. Compare Dwight to Duncan or Bogut.
Both players are limited offensively. That's the problem with these kids who never went to college. In high school they didn't have to utilize their mid-range game, and now they're below average at shots 5-10 feet out. Both are very valuable players, but they aren't anywhere near a Ewing, Olajuwon, or Duncan. Shaq in his prime is the only exception where he never had to utilize his mid-range game and still go for 30 a night.
I'd take a Bynum over Howard any day, yeah he's been injured but those injuries are just fluke injuries, Bynum is a way better post player, better 1 on 1 defender, just as good of a rebounder. Howard gets more rebounds cuz he has a lot less competion on his team for rebounds.
Bynum is clearly one of the most underrated centers. I think he's one of the best out there. He can defend, he can rebound, hell he can even shoot. He's gonna do great!

Not really, Dwight is FAR from his peaking point. Dwight right now is a freak of nature, relying on easy tip dunks, put back dunks and a high octane physical advantage than about almost every other center in the league. But his offense is watered down, not polished at all. He still needs A LOT of work down low, and passing off double teams. Once he hits that point, he would be considered the most dominant player in his generation.
Bynum has A LOT to prove, you'll notice i acknowledged that he's young, but i just don't think he's that good. Playing with a top 3 in NBA PF makes life easier.

Al Jefferson got hurt last year, knee injuries right is the current injury that slows down the mobility of any big man from leg strentgh to possible explosion on verticle leaps (Oden's had this problem for the past 2 years, Yao is out, Stoudemire had to adjust, It slowed down Bynum's progression). Both players are limited offensively. That's the problem with these kids who never went to college. In high school they didn't have to utilize their mid-range game, and now they're below average at shots 5-10 feet out. Both are very valuable players, but they aren't anywhere near a Ewing, Olajuwon, or Duncan. Shaq in his prime is the only exception where he never had to utilize his mid-range game and still go for 30 a night.

I'd take a Bynum over Howard any day, yeah he's been injured but those injuries are just fluke injuries, Bynum is a way better post player, better 1 on 1 defender, just as good of a rebounder. Howard gets more rebounds cuz he has a lot less competion on his team for rebounds.

Not really, Dwight is FAR from his peaking point. Dwight right now is a freak of nature, relying on easy tip dunks, put back dunks and a high octane physical advantage than about almost every other center in the league. But his offense is watered down, not polished at all. He still needs A LOT of work down low, and passing off double teams. Once he hits that point, he would be considered the most dominant player in his generation.

Bynum has A LOT to prove, you'll notice i acknowledged that he's young, but i just don't think he's that good. Playing with a top 3 in NBA PF makes life easier.
I agree about Howard, as someone who went to 20+ Magic games last season i loved watching Dwight, but he's nowhere near the level he can/should be. But still a FAR better player than Bynum.

Yes, it does make life easier, but unfortunatly stat wise it will not give him the benefit of the doubt for a break out year, it's just not going to happen on a team with loaded talent. Before Gasol's arrival back on the team Bynum was averaging like 22pts, 10-11rbs and a block a game, and a better efficientcy rating than Howard. If Yao Ming was 100% healthy, quite honestly Bynum nor Howard would even be in this conversation.

Al Jefferson got hurt last year, knee injuries right is the current injury that slows down the mobility of any big man from leg strentgh to possible explosion on verticle leaps (Oden's had this problem for the past 2 years, Yao is out, Stoudemire had to adjust, It slowed down Bynum's progression). I was gonna say the same thing. He get's not press time what so ever compared to Dwight. Ppl don't praise Bynum like they do Dwight.
Mark this though, something may trigger Bynum in the finals cause NOBODY is talking about him at all. I'm not saying he will be dominate, but he may be a wild card in this series. What a scary asset to have when U are already loaded with talent!!

This is no contest at all. You shouldn't even be comparing these two players. What a joke! LOL Dwight Howard is 5 times better than Andrew Bynum. I didn't even know who Andrew Bynum was until the beginning of this year even though he played on the famous L.A. Lakers LOL

Howard vs Bynum. Howard anytime, anyplace. Hes more consistant, better defender and offender as well. Not only that, hes a clean player. Bynum plays so dirty.

this league is weak isnt it? I mean look at the 80's and 90's and the game was tough and great to watch, now its full of Eurotrash infuenced flopping, weak ass techs and flagrants. Imagine how much MJ would have dominated this league in his prime? he would have shot like 20 free throws a game...damn this league good, but sad to see how much it has dropped

man i agree 100%....i think i watch it out of habbit but it is not the league of yesteryear...i think david stern and stu jackson have messed with the officiating too much and now these guys call flagrants on every play and the instant replays are killing me, just ref the game.

Dwight is definitely ahead of Bynum right now...but Bynum's post moves are much better developed compared to Dwight's...
If Dwight can get down his footwork and fundamentals then he'll be unstoppable..

I would want both of these guys on my team. Dwight Howard plays with a lot of energy and racks up stats. Andrew Bynum is long, quick, and strong. Drew also has more post moves than Dwight. You can't go wrong with either one.

These two actually play like real centers, shot blocking, dunking, post play. Too many 7 footers roaming around the 3 point line these days.
