Prince played a series of concerts in Europe which were filmed for the SIGN O THE TIMES movie. However, most of the footage was grainy and unsuitable for a motion picture release. So he recreated the concert footage at Paisly Park studios and filmed it there, basically lip-syncing to the audio recordings from the tour. Only a few minutes (probably crowd shots) of actual film shot in Holland and elsewhere are in the final product.

No overdubbs, they just replay the concert in playback. But soundtrack was originally recorded live, of course.

Poor Boni Boyer! Her heart couldn't take being on stage with Prince all the time giving out this much energy. Sheila E. had a lung blowout because of the constant non-stop energy of Prince's concerts. The Lovesexy tour was a killer for both of them! Talk about giving your all!
