  • Dani Filth FTW!!!

  • If you like this check out chrysler42ify. ....metalcore vocalist looking.for a band

  • Thanks for the video dude, it's been very helpful. Been practicing for 10 days and am pleasantly surprised. What I've gotten is mid range growls? (similar to Conqueror - War.Cult.Supremacy). I can do those all day with no water and no throat pain. The growls I'm having a bit of diffculty with. I can do nothing but maintain one pitch, words = growl cracking = constipated walrus. Also water is not helping at all, but pork roast is. Is eating stuff like that safe?

  • @Kale1800 Anything that gives you mucus is good, (mucus in the back of the throat) and drink water!!!! No soda or acidic liquids, it does help, you just don't notice it. Let me hear a sample of your vocals and I'll tell you what's going on.

  • @DAISER6 My camera has possibly the worst audio quality ever but I'll upload something in ~12 hours.

  • @Kale1800 Awesome, I'll check it out when it's up!

  • @DAISER6 Sorry I didn't upload anything; was busy with a couple of job interviews...but it's probably no longer necessary anyways; think I figured out the problem. The low growls I was trying before were using the vocals chords not the diaphragm, lucky I found that out sooner rather than later. Also for the mid growls I discovered I was actually using false vocal chords.

  • @Kale1800 Lawl, everything you do that produces a noise is using your vocal chords. Your diaphragm has no capability of producing any such noise. It merely supports your breathing. The whole "it comes from the diaphragm is widely misinterpreted". I still suggest that you upload a video so I can make sure you're doing it right. Better safe than sorry!

  • @DAISER6 Also you gotta stop tightening your neck every time you say anything, while it wont necessarily hurt you short term, long term it's bad and it doesn't help your vocals at all.

  • @ixsetf Really now? I've never heard of that? What happens when you tighten your neck muscles? :O

  • @DAISER6 I'm not an expert but my understanding is that makes your throat thinner and causes your vocal chords to hit each other too hard and they slowly get damaged.

  • @ixsetf Hmmm I shall keep this in mind! Thank-you!

  • I got my low bree squeals first

  • Great tut but u need to get ur facts right slipknot first off have 3 vocalists none of them lost there voice just each album they use different growls and shit Corey still screams growls and sings like a fucking demon still also try singing in a tight lmask ur vocals will also change stay sic maggots of the workd

  • @MrXxxdarknessxxx His voice deteriorated for a portion of his career, and he didn't scream or shout as much. I'm not dissing on the guy but his technique is rather dangerous for beginners to pick up.

  • quit burping

  • @ncp1999 Damn how'd you find out my super secret technique :P

  • @DAISER6 i just thought about how i can do it

  • 2:18 Very motivating dude! :P

  • I suck at false chord but i have pretty brutal gutturals any tips?

  • @XxboxandmetalX Work on sigh-ing, sigh and then push it out with more force, that's how you make thefalse chord growl. Then just keep practicing that to songs and voila!

  • DAISER6 I have a question! So, I can do the screaming from the lower part of my throat and I'vebeen screaming for a month and a half. I practice everyday. When I put dani filth's song on really loud and put on headphones so I can hear it over my screaming, I noticed that my screaming which comes from the lower part of my throat is not as high in some parts unless I use the top part of my throat. Is that right because whne I scream high from there (even though it hurts a bit) it sounds like dani.

  • @angelicbaby92 Be warned Dani filth's vocals are extremely damaging and very hard to master (imo) You definitely want to use the higher portion of your throat, and it's kind of like an opera note he uses not so much a scream, it's like a hybridization of the two. Hard to explain. If it hurts you're not doing it corrrectly, don't strain your throat, take a break from doing vocals and work your way up (loudness) start really soft and then get progressively louder. Make sure you're breathing right!

  • @DAISER6 Yup! I get what you're saying. I lost my voice one day for screaming for five freaking hours, but I got it back and now I just scream for two a day instead. It doesn't hurt as much as it used to but it's definitely more straining than just screaming and gutturals. I'm just going to go really slow, training my throat day by day. I can easily reach the notes, but I just need stamina. i know what you're saying with the half opera and screamo. Took me a while to find the sound

  • @angelicbaby92 Yeah don't scream for five hours haha, not straight at least. And if it works for you then go for it, just be careful along the path!

  • @DAISER6 but I can reach the higher notes that dani can and I can do it really loud too like him. I can do it even higher sometimes because I'm a girl. I just have to train my throat to have stamina. It actually doesn't hurt like that day I lost my voice. LOL. I just wanted to see if I was doing it right because people say not to use your throat but I don't see any other way to make that sound. Thanks for the help!

  • Cradle of Filth is amazing!!!

  • Gutter rolls aren't bad... I do them, and haven't had any problems. That's how I do low vocal covers. I've done one for Amon Amarth, now I'm doing one for Nile, and I use the same technique. I know it screws your throat up, but I don't think I'm running into those problems any time soon. But thanks for this video, anyway, man, cuz I'm trying to do death metal vocals in as many ways as possible.

  • @SuperNotNoob I checked your covers, and sorry to break your bubble, your not growling. The whole "grunt" thing is pretty lame, and trust me, there's no purpose in learning it. Check out a buy named "blixish" he has the best growl tutorials on YT imo.

A simple tip for you is to lower your adams apple while growling, make sure that it stays low or semi low, and the growl should be loud, not whispered.

  • @XQriousX ik, i did terribly on that... i should just remove that video, cuz im redoing it anyway... everybody THINKS im whispering during that, wen rlly, i think my camera's mic gain wuz just turned to "low"... but i wuz pretty quiet, even then, so, like i sed, im gunna redo it...

  • @SuperNotNoob I'm not talking about that.

I would say that the very TECHNIQUE you're using is flawed tbh.

I'm not bashing you, I had a hell trying to learn the stuff, but trust me, I can do the sound you did in the video, and I know that you can do it slightly better than the camera registered. I still suggest that you switch fundamental technique, trust me, it's totally worth it.

  • @XQriousX i hav absolutely no clue wat u mean by "fundamental technique" (curse my limited vocabulary), but, uhh... yeah, im working on my growling... and i kinda NEED to, considering the fact that i'm my bands backup vocals...

  • @SuperNotNoob What I mean is that the very way you're doing vocals could be improved if you let go of the technique you're currently using and start from an entierly different approach. As I said before, try blixish's tutorials, they're great. What you're doing now is gutturals, and those are made by the upper part of your throat, while growling comes frome a lower spot.

  • @SuperNotNoob As long as it doesn't hurt your throat and isn't "whispered" you're fine. I listened to your screaming demo.... and you're not doing guttural techniques from what I can tell, I don't know what QriousX is saying but, you're not doing guttturals.

  • @DAISER6 well, wen i did that i wuz doin sumthin else... if u look at my Amon Amarth vocal cover im whispering AND doin gutturals

  • @DAISER6 Perhaps not but it definately comes from the top of his throat (much like the gutturals) as far as I can tell. By lowering the larynx one can ensure that the sound comes from the base of your throat.

  • @XQriousX Ehhh. For all intensive purposes it's best to tell them that it comes from the bottom till they get the techniques down. But I agree. :P

  • Thanks!!! it works!!!

  • With drinking water do i have to drink water to dinner, breakfeast and stuff or just before after i will practise?

  • @shotgunrain123 No, but you still should, water is beneficial to your health as opposed to soft drinks and stuff. You need to drink water while you're practicing vocals to keep them moist.

  • 1:05 wtf is wrong with you, your a fucking psycho

  • hellyeah. your opening "screaming/growling" reminds me of illdisposed singer :D

  • I knew it was Dani Filth! I Knew It!!!

  • listen to devourment. your vocals remind me some of there shit

  • @KingsZepsters HAha baby killer. I've heard ofthem before, they're pretty awesome! Thanks for the compliment.

  • Using these kinds of vocals in Metalcore? Wouldn't that make it so much awesome? :D

  • @rakeria Eh not really, it wouldn't improve that much seeing as metalcore rides the "one note breakdown dick". Until the scene kids are exterminated from the core music, the core music will always remain fairly shitty.

  • @DAISER6 One note breakdown ain't all that bad. (on the other hand, I'm a open like a whore to music)

Hurr, yeah. by scene I hope you really mean faggish nuisances and not people with black hair lol. That would just be wrong <.<

  • @rakeria Thy art is murder can successfully do a one note breakdown, but after awhile they all sound the same, and makes distinguishing the songs difficult, plus the skill level they take to play is low. But alas, to each his own. And no, hair colour has no effect on whether you're scene or not. It's all about the music you listen to, why, and how you dress/persona.

  • @DAISER6 Glad you have a reason to hate it mate. Some just hate because other say it's gay. Anyway, thanks for the tutorial! I'll put your knowledge that you taught to good use. :P

  • @rakeria Ah yeah man glad I helped!

  • hey i do pig squeal rly loud when im bored at school , and my friend told me that inhales are bad and exhales are good but i dont know the differences to tell the truth i get confused can you help me??

  • @mayox1234567 Inhales is when you breathe in and scream. Exhales is like shouting or regular screaming, You're PUSHING OUTWARD. But it's not just a reg scream, there's a technique behind it. Exhales are better and less damaging if done properly. YOu can still do [ig squeals if you learn exhaling, because exhales can also pig squeal.

  • thanks for tutorial. need all the help i can get. did you ever make the more in depth video?

  • hey man can u give me some tips?

  • @jordanslagle

isn't that what this video is about...?

  • Do you have to be AT LEAST 16? Because I heard in a website, someone typed that you should become 16 to make black metal vocals.

  • @odysseasX Preferred to be after puberty haha

  • @DAISER6 Damn....

  • @DAISER6 Haha, not anymore! I learned a technique for death and now I practice for black! Fook yeah!

  • @odysseasX What do you mean by this? Personally I would suggest doing htis once your voice has matured, and not to d it while your vocal chords are developing, because not only could it mess them up, you'll learn the technique wrong, you'll start to use lower chords to hit the highs, and low low chords to hit the lows, the after your voice changes you'll either a. have to relearn how to do it. or b. you'll do it the same way and get different results.

  • @DAISER6 Haha dude anytime your growl or make almost any sound with your mouth, it's using your vocal chords xD and yeah I know but black metal and death metal low techniques are the same. :P The highs are the ones that are different.

  • @DAISER6 The highs are the EXACT same as the lows. This is coming from someone who has been screaming for nearly 4 years now. The highs are just higher in pitch, thats it.

  • @Scowmoo Yeah, I mean I know that I move it up on my throat just a tad, it's not a big difference but there's no change in technique or added pressure, i's all the same.

  • @DAISER6 Ok good. xD

  • dude you are such a faggot. grow a pair of nuts and suck a dick.

    goofball.

    ;)

  • @jeezjacob ;) Okay, I'll suck yours :)

  • @DAISER6 i did not see that coming best cumback ever XD

  • @hatersgetABlackeye68 Haha I don't care to post comebacks on youtube. I simply lawl and shrug it off. :)

  • Fans of the death growls should check my channel out, my latest cover is up.

  • Comment removed

  • @OGTwxtor Uhh what? Haha this was made when I was a freshman. I see you like dubstep, Borgore interest you any?

  • @DAISER6 haha no dude, I just meant death metal or whatever is pretty strange...it's cool that you've worked on that skill tho

  • @OGTwxtor Ha yeah thanks man! I like death metal, but I like a lot of other shit like, Hip Hop, and dubstep as well. :D I don't particularly like these lil scene/emo kids that clusterto it at my school. They're annoying as fuck.

  • @DAISER6 I can imagine. Lucky I don't live anywhere near them XD Hey, I like Bring Me the Horizon, but what are they? (genre-wise I mean)

  • @OGTwxtor First album was deathcore, second was metalcore, third is like avant garde (experimental). They've changed sounds each album. And ah where do you live :O

  • @DAISER6 My mommy said...lol JK XD CT

  • @OGTwxtor Haha ah that's pretty far from where I live, which would be texas. So Hot

  • @DAISER6 lived there once. it was OK haha. a lot of Army guys come from there

  • @OGTwxtor Yeah, it's ridiculous down here, since I've never lived anywhere else I don't know whether I like the culture of people or not. :S

  • @DAISER6 haha well I don't like where I live that much. too many rich snobs running around...

  • @OGTwxtor Ah yeah man well you know what they say, if you can't beat them might as well join them! I would never go country though hahaha.

  • @DAISER6 haha well it has it's pros and cons...

  • @OGTwxtor Really such as?

  • @DAISER6 haha like the nature, the quietness, the ability to run for miles on the same winding road, and I live near the beach so there's that too, also longboarding

  • @OGTwxtor Oh haha I was talking about culture not like environment, I like the country environment when I'm trying to relax, but I like the city environment when I'm trying to be energetic and have a social life.

  • hahahaha nice hahahaha

  • seen your new ones there good but you shouldn't scream like that look at the band i killed everyone song auto cannibal or god forgives i don't those are the sorta screams you should start trying sound alot better and don't toll on your throat but your pretty good

  • @7dayspking It's the same vocal technique hahahahaha :P and I'll check out the vid bro

  • @DAISER6 same technique but diffrent screams all together they come out alot diffrently they are alot lower and they don't clench there throat quite as much as you do when screaming i recon you could do them

  • @7dayspking Hahaha actually, I'm not using my highest of highs, my actually high screams sound like Dani Filth's Shrieks xD

  • @DAISER6 i heard on your cover i was refering to your cover just your screams sounded like you were killing your throat

  • @7dayspking YEah I understand an haha, Idk man, It doesn't feel like it man, I've been doing screams for 4 years, and I've never felt any pain. :S

  • @DAISER6 yea i know your screams sound alot like eat a helicopter but in their song shot in the hand with a nail gun they have a pretty extreme ending in the breakdown with great vocals you are good at vocals everyone has there own style

  • @7dayspking Haha thank-you man! I'll check out the song nowwww.

  • @DAISER6 thats alright

  • @7dayspking Ah I remember this song! I listened to it awhile ago, like a year xD hahahaha thanks for the input, I'll definitely mess around with my technique, I'm constantly changing it, I just need tofind something im comfortable with and one thsat i like. You know? But now it's back to Hip Hop, my cheer up music. :)

  • ok your pig squeals low ones pretty good high ones probebly arn't arent inhales but your not breathing out enough air sounds like job for a cowboy a bit medium ones are alright but your lows are good

  • @7dayspking Ah have you seen my latest videos? This one is pretty old :O Thanks for the input tho!

  • @DAISER6 by the way check out my deathmetal vs deathcore a fair battle video i noticed that you don't seem biased about either neither am i anything with great vocals i'll listen to check it out added it because sick of seing all the ones giving deathmetal people shit and all the ones calling deathcore gay or scene so i added it making a part 2

  • but your screams are terrible but i hate screams so thats ok

  • m8 nice try a pig squeal you could possibly be in a bands your not the best but your pretty good

  • Holy shit

  • YOU ARE LIKE PHIL BOZEMANS CHILD

  • @IanCooked Lawl, thanks, you should see my other videos. Like the recent ones.

  • is it healthy for someone my age (14) to scream and plan on screaming for the rest of his life?

i don't really care if it is, just curious. I just wanna know if my voice is gonna sound like crap when i'm older

and i started a year ago.

  • @TheKornfan101 Well I've been screaming since my freshman year in High school, and I'm a senior now, I don't see much of a difference in my voice, it gets a little "crackly" afterwards but not too bad. I don't know anyone who's screamed their entire life, except Dani Filth and his technique is really ridiculous, he's had surgery done on his throat several times, like singing, screaming will cause your voice to deteriorate. :S

  • @DAISER6 yeh but you take forever to get the point thts just my breakdown of it

  • @jhein10501 Yeah, this was like when I was a freshma in high school soooooooo I talked a ton. :P

  • lol i can you show you in a comment how to do dm vocals better then him its all about the way you shape your lips and where your tongue is for lows, if u wanta really deep growl have your tongue on your the roof of your mouth and your lips shaped like a o, use your diaphram and push tht air up at the same time kinda of flex your muscles on your neck is the best way i can explain tht part and if u do it right you should feel your neck and part of your chest vibrate

  • @jhein10501 Which is exactly what I said in the video. :P

  • lol

  • i would to hate to be in an argument with him:O

  • @KillerShadow74 Hahaha why? :P

  • @DAISER6 hmm well consedering he can death growl and all i can do is scream XD i think he would win>:O O.o

  • @KillerShadow74 Hahah yeah because my death growl would summon the demons of hell to scorn your soul allowing me to defeat you in th most grim fashion >:) Sorry if that doesnt make sense.... Party last night fucked me up xD

  • you look so stupid when you did the high scream lol

  • @mystery1229 Thanks? Haha Most people do look stupid when they scream, music videos lie! That's all staged pretty much, their mouths and the shapes of it would not produce the sound that the song actually has most of the time. XD

  • It's weird, for some reason after my recent visit to Disneyland, my vocals have gone to shit. What would cause something like that? Smoggy air or something else? Got any advice for getting my vocals back?

  • @tshred666 Well the more days you go without doing vocal practice the "weirder" and "distorted" they seem. So you just have to take it slowly if you went a long time without doing them say a 1 and a half or so, just do lows then highs and yeh you should be fine.

  • lmao " a bunch of theese inhaling guys ..... they die" dude that was funny for some reason to me

  • What is this!, A cookie monster Sex Tape???

  • @kammetje1 Hahahaha :)

  • any possible ways to get the breakdown tone of PArkway Drive-A cold day in hell (breakdown)vocals?

  • @gianniswildchild Yeah that's pretty easy just work on lows and get them really really low and gurgly then when you want to do his style "loosen up" your throat and give it a more "airy" kind of style. Less low/gurgling more voice Is what i mean.

  • dude i cant do fry screaming after doing a false chord scream....my throat gets sore...

which one is better fry or false chord that i can stick to....

  • @alphamaydus Well in my opinion false is better if you do it correctly, it has a more brutal sound, it has a better range, and it is just more appealing to me. You throat shouldnt get sore from false screaming so maybe you're pushing th air out too fast or constricting your throat too much.

  • it sound lika dinosaur peeg.

  • how do you know if your doing it wrong? cuz after i did it my throught started to hurt does that mean im not doing it right?

  • @bittyboo57 Upload a video of you doing it, straight no effects and no mic, If you constrict your throat too much or push the air out too hard it'll mess your throat up and your vocals will be lacking. It should be a comfortable level, ot too soft and not too hard. Lows should not be done using the highs technique, Vocal fry is somewhat based off the high technique and the scream slightly softer or constrict their throat less in order to not damage it.

  • dude i didnt listen to u about the whole drink water thing and now i hav brochitis.....i shood hav listened

  • @richie543ify Well you should drink water just because it'snot acidic like tea and coke and etc. But you wouldn't get bronchitis from drinking those while screaming... I dont think?

  • @DAISER6 i dont drink soda i drink juice....and thats all i drank , i didnt drink much water

  • @richie543ify What kind of juice? Some are more acidic than others but I'd suggest water, luke warm not cold. (Some what warmish hot ish is best for you but it 'tastes' or most people arent used to drinking warm water so it's weird at first)

  • @DAISER6 ive found a cure...i just drank hot water and i feel alot better...thanks for trying to help me u rock

  • @richie543ify No problem man!

  • How to do this? You'll need the following things

    1. No taste in music

    2. No understanding of instrumentation

    3. A hatred for life

    4. A hatred for real music

    Yeah.

  • @ThroughRock 1. I Love all kinds of music therefore all the kinds of music I love are horrible? So all of music is horrible? 2. What do I not understand? How do you know I do not understand this? This isn't a guide to instrumentation. 3. I love my life. PROJECTION! (psychology term) 4. I love all kinds of music therefore it is quite impossible for me to hate it. Love-Hate relationships pertaining to music don't exist in my world. You're a twit with a lack luster ability to formulate insults.

  • I can do highs, but not lows.

  • @wyattsban Oh yeah man, um highs are amazing if you can get those down dont worry you cant lows down easily,. Just do what I said in the vid about sigh-ing and work with it, lows are fun because you can play around with the technique to get the sound you want, DONT PUSH TOO HARD.

  • @DAISER6 Yeah, I try to do lows and it sounds very very quiet.

  • @thagr8c0rnh0li0 Try adjusting the shape of your mouth and focus on getting gurgles, the sound will come with it after that.

  • lol NOFX

  • Cradle of filth!!!!!!!!! Fuck yeah!!!!!! I'm a huge fan of them!!! But I'm disappointed cause I've been a fan for 5 years and I didn't know dani filth had to get surgery for his voice!! I'm ashamed :( I didn't know this but I don't care he still sounds AWSOME!!!!

  • @MM1fanfreak Yeah I love Cradle of Filth too, they get a lot of hate for some unknown reason, probably because of their fan base. Oh well, which album do you enjoy the best?

  • @DAISER6 i love all of their albums. their new albums are not the best except the "Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa" they really rocked on that album. The album almost sounds like "Damnation and a day." ALMOST! not all of it though. which ones do u like?

  • @MM1fanfreak Midian, I haven't heard Thorn, or Dark, I love all of heir stuff too, I prefer when dani uses a range of vocals instead of just blistering highs.

  • @DAISER6 i LOVE MIDIAN is one of my fav. ALBUMS! because it's just so dark. Have you herd cruelty and the beast? That album is almost like mididan to me. it's awsome!

  • @MM1fanfreak Yes I have heard it, Bathory Aria ftw! It's the song that got me into them, I used to listen to that song over and over. I need Darkly Darkly venus, either thator some technical death metal/ technical deathcore album, any suggestions?

  • @DAISER6 no, sorry. Do you have any suggestions for more metal bands? And one more thing, if you start listening to darkly darkly venus aversa, i recommend the song "Lillith Imaculate" -it's awsome. Also listen to "Forgive me father (i have sinned)" i don't really like that song cause it's not them but it has an AMAZING guitar solo! hope you like it.

  • @MM1fanfreak What kind of metal bands, personally I like technical deathcore (My fave band of all time is Thy art is murder-The Adversary album), Dimmu borgir, Necrophagist, Signal the firing squad. I can name off more but Imma keep it at that so i dont overwhelm you with songs and bands hahaha

  • @DAISER6 thanx. i'm going to listen to the bands. i'm hoping i'll like them. and do u like marilyn manosn? he's awsome but it's not metal.

  • @MM1fanfreak I've never gotten into his stuff but Ill check him out,I was looking for some good music by him recently just to have because at want point i did like him, and I have seen him in interviews, and like his general character, he's very down to earth and modest imo.

  • there is no way you practice up to 5 hours a day!

  • @siccooper No I typically do, it's not like 5 hours accumlative, it's morely over a 5 hour period, I give myself a ton of breaks. And usually only go for a minute or a song length.

  • is it normal for a 16 year old to sound like a 40 year old man wen using deep voice....cuz thats how i sound ....not wen i use my regular voice tho, my reg voice sounds like a teen

  • @richie543ify Um how does this relate to metal? Haha um Idk when I do my deep voice it sounds like rap songs that edit their voices really low. I don't know dude, you shouldn't worry about how normal something is because everyone's voice is different. And I don't think it will affect your metal vocals.

  • not gonna lie, this is fucking sick

  • @666vilecreatures420 Thanks, I've been messing around with techniques for awhile and finally have the right ones, my death metal low technique is correct as mentioned in this video but something I didn't realize was I was pushing out too hard. And you do not want to do that. You should just be able to hear the 'gurgles'

  • @DAISER6 I do all exhales, I feel ya on the screams thign tho, I'm better at gutterals/growls but when i high scream my growls aren't as good.

  • HOLY SHIT I ALMOST GOT IT I THINK. But it feels weird.

  • Well I got the pig squeal inhale. And I'm frying my lungs. But I want to learn how to do this.

  • @GothVampireQueen It's not hard, just don't push out the air too hard, and don't tighten your throat too much. Also if you're a girl (basing this judgement from your name haha) then it's going to sound slightly differentthan a guy's lows.

  • @DAISER6 Aww. I want to be just as beast as the guys. But I think I'm making it harder than it is.
