Hi Mike, I'm using XLR cable for my DMX lights... When i link them all up i have a 4 channel controller i set them all to there own DMX channel and they don't do what i want them to do... some flash and change colour and some just stay on the same colour... Would you know why?
I wanted the same info for similar lights but they have 4 buttons instead of the 10 switches any thoughts on how to get them on DMX?? I believe they are LP64's
MM, what would you recommend for a cheap lighting solution? I was wanting to buy the Electro 196's until they jacked the 4-pack price to $480. I found one of Chauvet's LED PAR cans for $100 apiece, but I'd like to stay as cheap and still have a set of 8 for flood lighting and for band use. You're my hero, please help me. Haha.
I have different brands led of parcans and have fiddled around with master/slave and want to run dmx from laptop. All my questions answered in 9:20. Many Thanx.
@djmattwilson The problem isn't the resistance so much as terminating, which was the original question. However, as for XLR cables, it is going to depend on more than just the restistance, it depends on their length, awg (thickness), shielding and twisting. Brian S Redd has a pretty good video about the differences entitled: DMX Cable Vs Microphone Cable - What's The Difference? But it boils down to checking the specs.
I use XLR cable for my DMX cable, but it's braided shield, and twisted pair, and 22awg (gauge). It's sold as "low noise mic cable" and I make my own cable lengths because it's far cheaper than buying and because I have the ability to do so.
Using regular XLR cables however, is still going to 'run' the system, but the longer the cables are without twisted pair and shielding, the more noise, or interference you're going to get, meaning the more your lights will spaz out on their own.
@bporp If you have the ability to solder, then it's extremely easy and cost effective to build your own termination piece. It is an XLR connecter, with a 120 ohm 1/4 W resistor soldered between pins 2 and 3 (1 is the shield, which is used as a common). This info comes directly from Chauvet, published in their manuals. The one I'm looking at now is my LEDRain 38C, on page 13, under Cable Connectors. Hope that helps!
It depends what color you want but #10 nees to be off if your not using DMX control and I sorry I dont Have an ADJ light so I am not sure I would like to try a few though ! thanks mikey Mike
@vinfun Not sure about your #1, but the technical answer for #2 is No. For Master/Slave to work, the programming of the light itself has to be the same, because all it's doing is sending a signal to the subsequent lights saying "This is what I'm doing." If the programming is different, then the signal gets translated into something different, (ie red=strobe, green=blue) BUT- if both lights can be set to 3ch RGB mode, then all the signals are going to be the same.
Its possable you could have siginals bounce off the end and make four lights act up! I have used it and not used it and I cant tell to much differance but I hate having trouble so if it helps in any way I going to use it when I can I here it is best to use for long DMX runs over 50' But If you have one use it! thanks DJ Mikey Mike

@bporp you can plug in an XLR cable, as the resistance in the cable is suitable. (120ohm)

Nice video, helped me loads. Thanks alot. There isn't many places on the Internet that covers the complete basics of master slave on the Internet.
Cheers!

1. I couldnt get the setting for the first fixture when we r set on Master Slave - Sound Active.
2. Will these settings work for a pair of ADJ P64 LED fixtures too?
