Amazing singing--I have been wanting to hear Jerome Hines since reading his book, "Great Singers on Great Singing" years ago. It's so wonderful to hear many of the fine singers he interviewed on YoutTube. Thank you for uploading this video.
It's a great performance, but I really dislike his adding of the extra "O, moy bohze!" at the end. I'm aware of Hines' religious views, but I really wish he wouldn't force them on an audience. One of the things that makes Boris' death so tragic and bleak, IMO, is that it should be left up to the audience to determine if he achieved redemption. Being spoon-fed that is aggravating. But cheers to the singing, at least.
Mr. Hines had a grand voice. This scene is very moving, and he gives his very best. He is right up there with Chaliapin, Mark Reizen, Ivan Petrov, and Ezio Pinza, other great interpreters of this difficult role.

Huge, macabre, olympian, terrifying, yet always in tune. Wow! A Sure Favorite! Thanks, Yevgeny!
