@jimarti59 I think new technology- in particular, the multi-track recording- killed off most of the bands. If you think about it, a musician that's proficient in all instrumentation can record a whole session by themselves. Even Mint Condition, though they perform as a band, don't record as a band- check their album credits.

Also, a lot of Black musicians had a desire to go mainstream to make more money and get more exposure. The downside is that many of them sacrificed their sound to do it.

Finding an ACTUAL BAND willing to perform with a rapper is a hard thing to do unless they have a big history with each other like the Roots. Hip Hop isn't Funk, Hip Hop isn't POP, Hip Hop isn't Rock, Hip Hop isn't Jazz, Hip Hop is a mix of EVERYTHING. Don't get gansta rap confused with Hip Hop either.
