  • I practice heel down because I dont feel like I have control with my heel up. I have been playing this way for 25 years. Do you think it possible to get speed and power playing heel down. I have started practicing my feet more than ever but I want to make sure I am spending my time wisely

  • @331paradiddle Hi, that's a very personal question. What may work for me may not work for you but I recommend you to develop the heel up technique. 90% of my playing is with heel up. I only use heel down when I'm feathering the bass drum or playing in low volume situations. Almost all of my favorite drummers also play heel up. Check this clip, Weckl discusses a little bit about heel up/down playing: 'youtube.com/watch?v=KTOVLkp-nOI'

  • i would like to see foot motion in that double bass stroke

  • @TurboSiri Most of the different foot motions that I have are in this video: youtube.com/watch?v=nMC05kLCW7I

  • @1982Rafael thx, ok fast slide?

  • @TurboSiri Sometimes I slide the foot but not always: youtube.com/watch?v=SKFAiGdrWqw

  • fuck man, good stuff....now that iv seen someone do it so easily like this, i know iv gotta get to the same level as fast as i can lol. thanks

  • BEING A ONE HAND& ONE FOOT DRUMMY AS I AM NOW FOR ME THE KILLER EXERCISE WASTRIPLET ON RIGHT HAND THEN FOOT REPEAT AND THE ONE I AM WORKING ONTO NOW IS IMO[means nothing ofoarce] single stroke roll between my right foot and right hand repeat .WOW YOU HAVE SOME SERIOUS SPEED LATER IN THE VIDEO your hand speed reminds me of Mike Mangini YEAH I ENJOYED THAT THANKS

  • @kynancecove Hey thanks! I'm practicing alternated single strokes between hands/foot too. Dave Weckl and Vinnie Colaiuta mastered the roll.

  • What is the drum on your far left (above the hat)? Thanks.

  • @babapook it is called a Tamborim. It is used in brazilian music (samba)

  • simple but good ideas :] great !

  • @Szajdi Thank you!

  • but wait.. how are you hitting base so fast.. your leg only goin half as slow..???? i hate havin to figure this stuff out.. ppl make it look so complicated :'(

  • @Lun4rSoul The leg raises only once because I use the rebound to hit the second stroke.

  • @1982Rafael but thats the thing.. i still dont get it.. nobody teaches me these things.

  • @Lun4rSoul Check this video I made: youtube.com/watch?v=SKFAiGdrWqw&feature=related

  • LOL 3:36 thats awesome

  • you have no idea how much you've helped my drumming.

  • @theplanet1985 That's great! Thanks!

  • i have some cool single pedal ideas to check out my latest vid, there is a foot view

  • machoooo

  • Desenvolver novas técnicas vai além do que simplesmente aprender a tocar. Show Rafinha! Abs.

  • Pesquisa faz parte do desenvolvimento do músico, tentar combinações diferentes de idéias musicais pra tentar fazer algo novo, abraço!

  • that is some amazing heel-toe work...how did you get that kind of control and speed?...besides practice of course

  • Thanks! John Bonham was the one that made me develop the single foot technique, then I started watching Dennis Chambers, Dave Weckl, Simon Phillips, Jojo Mayer and they have an excellent single pedal technique.

It is lots of inspiration with lots of practice.

  • 5/5 bro .. great video

  • Thank you!

  • you should make a video of just your feet man. impressive.

  • is he doing heel tow on a normal pedal or does he have a double mallet pedal?

  • I'm playing a single pedal here.

  • didnt you read the title of the video ?

  • yes, i did read the title. And they do make double mallet single pedals. Therefore, it would still count as a single pedal. hence "single pedal".

  • DanceClubMassacare0: You are probably talking about the Duallist pedal.

I play with a DW 5000 single pedal.

  • yea, thats what i was thinking of. Have you ever used that? Is it any good?

  • I've never played one, it seems to be an interesting pedal for effects but I would not replace a double pedal with a Duallist. There is even a 3-beater version of the Duallist...

  • Wow amazing drum work, you got a fast right foot man. Excellent! I gave you 5 stars for this. I wish could go this fast.

    Keep it up!

  • why you dont try to put some mufflers??

  • I have a new drum room so I'll try to get a better sound! (I don't like mufflers)

  • Great exercises. Thanks, it will help a lot of folks.

  • You're welcome!

  • thank you thank you thank you thats how it done my friend

  • NICE!!! your right foot is strong and fast!!! bravo

  • wat a great acoustic enviornment hahahahaha cement makes drums sound amazing hahahha

  • Considering that the sound is captured by a Sony Digital Camera, I also think that the sound is good.

I've changed a bit the sound of my video called Random Acts of Rhythm, in HD with Adobe Premiere. It sounds even better.

  • you should consider puting up wooden walls cause it will make it sound better wood reflects sound better

  • Yeah but it is a very small room, there is Styrofoam on the walls, not cement...

  • did you get that form mike johnstion!

  • No, most of if I got from my dad and by watching Tony Williams and Vinnie Colaiuta.

  • but useing only 1 on this makes it sweet

  • thts gay, get double bass pedals, its alot more fun

  • I have a double bass pedal and it is a nice shortcut to play doubles but there are situations where you will need to play fast doubles while playing something else with your left foot.

  • i enjoy playing doubles too, though its been only for a month now that ive been able to play them at a good speed

  • Cool! I recommend working on dynamics and accuracy with a metronome.

  • how long has it taken you to develop this?

  • I'm still developing my technique but I think it took about 3 years to get a nice control/speed.

  • John Bonham heard a band play 16th note beats on the bass drum then he learned it himself. Later he found out they where using two bass drums(:

  • Yeah, it was Carmine Appice playing with two bass drums. Bonham started practicing and developed the technique with a single bass pedal.

  • Mando bem, to cheio de ideias agora!

  • hey whats up im marcoses little cousin'

  • What kind of spring tensio do you use and how far back to you set your beater?

  • The spring tension is very loose and I haven't changed the beater distance, it is the DW 5000 factory setting. Check my other pedal videos to see the distance from the drumhead.

  • Great work. You utilize alot of things I've been working with, and you've given me some ideas. Thanks!!

  • That's great, thanks!

I'll upload more videos next week.

  • Nice strong foot you got there. Are you playing heel - toe? You always throw those cool beats in with your jams. Great job!

  • Thanks, I'm not using the heel toe technique, I'm just using the rebound from the first stroke. I raise my leg to get the first stroke and I work with the rebound on the second stroke. I've posted a Video Response to this video that demonstrates the technique that I'm using.

  • so doubles on the single pedal makes the drummer look a badass mofo? nice lesson keep em coming

  • Hahaha thanks.

I've developed my single foot when I did not have a double pedal and I tried to simulate two bass drum patterns with it.

  • damn...what technique do you use to get that fast with your foot? your like Derek Roddy..

  • Thank you! I've posted a Video Response to this video, check it out.

  • That snare sounds great dude. Nice chops!

  • Thank you!

The snare is a Mapex Brass Black Panther 14"x5.5" with a Evans HD Dry on the batter side and a Hazy 300 on the resonant side, tuned high.
