...and what a performance from Philip Baker Hall. He plays the man haunted by his past so well! Kudos to Pt Anderson too. He must of still been in his 20's when he made this, yet still commands his cast with great maturity. I love PTA!!
@landmanfilms You mean the bell? it goes like dong-dong, yeah i know what you mean its in boogie nights where dirk gets beat up and jack horner beats up that one kid
I really wonder what sort of control PTA had with this picture. It's obvious that there were some hands in the pot, because he had some issues getting his way -- especially with the film's title. Plus, the matchbook scene with the flashback is really not PTA's style. It's a little too much like Filmmaking 101.
good luck finding it on NetFlix, ive looked everywhere for it and the video stores.. This movie is up there with Magnolia, Casino, Goodfellas.. Instant Classic..
Awesome film! You're right. I'm so glad that I didn't see the trailer ahead of time. Loved "Bookman" in this. P.T. Anderson is one heck of director, too!

This film has NEVER been on TV....it's a smart film and well-acted.....watch for the cameo by Philip Seymour Hoffman as the drunk on the craps table.
