Probably the least listened to Zeppelin track that should be heard exponentially more. I'm not sure, but a lot of what Page is doing in the overdub sounds like it's improvised. If that's the case, rare, indeed, considering how much of a perfectionist in the studio Page was.
Thank You! (again) for another relaxing evening, with my glass of wine, listening to one of my favorite Led Zeppelin songs... They STILL amaze me today, and I've been listening to them since the 70's - noone will EVER compare...
Indeed, but it went by in a blink of an eye. And now there all old and one day closer to.... all the music in the world changes noting at all, nothing.
I've been a led zeppelin fan since I was fourteen, now I'm 21 and I just heard this song last night coming home from work. This song made me feel better.
Many photos I have never seen!...the true essence of the band appears to shine through...(like I know what that is!) anyhow, tremendous guitar & sound......one for the headphones.....or maybe......
GREAT! I love Zeppelin but even Jimmy will admit this song is a rework of Since I've Been Loving You. I think Jimmy once said, "Its the only time Zeppelin repeated itself." Never-the-less, great music!
I get the feeling that this song and all the others on 'Presence' are sort of a genre of their own made by Zeppelin. Billiant songs and got to be the best band of all time, along with the best guitarist.
It's sounds exactly like Jeff Buckley: Lover You Should've Come Over, several other songs. Its so easy to hear Robert Plant's influence on Jeff. And though Jeff was an even greater singer... I think he owed much of his early development to the great Robert Plant. They are the best (and best-looking) singers of all-time haha!
Do you guys know whats on the table in the pictures from THis album prescence. if not think what page was into and them look at the photos with the lady on the kids head and the ob.........
pure brilliance. i remember playing this in my car on the way to my cottage. and for some reason id NEVER heard this song, or at least couldnt remember hearing it. and i remember just pressing repeat and listening to it the full 3 hours there, and the full 3 hours back. everytime i hear this now i think of the joy and relaxation of being up north with nature. purely brilliant music.
What a great experience---it's just beautiful. Led Zeppelin only gets better as it becomes part of your experience in life. Life only becomes more nostalgic. This song has a pace that's of another time, of another place, for that matter of another universe.
I remember requesting Tea for One on the local classic rock station thinking they would never play it due to its length. They proved me wrong and I melted into the bluesy morning.
This is an orgasm. Every Led Zeppelin song is a different intensity of orgasm, as if Jimmy Page himself was engaging in sexual intercourse with you in your favorite way.
as raunchy as it sounds, your conclusion is totally accurate in my opinion...theres a lot of emotion in this song, as in other Led Zeppelin songs, like "Ten Years Gone" and "Babe Im Gonna Leave You"
But see thats how it is now a days people are rembering what they did and what they still influince now a days and i personly am loving seeing people look back and see what led-zeppelin did and is still doing they are just simply amazing... amazing.
I grew up loving Zeppelin, listening to every album over and over, wearing out those vinyl albums to the point were all you heard were scratches and...I never really knew this song until just recently. Holy Sh!@ I absolutely love this song now. WTF - How did I miss this one after all these years. It gives me chills listening to it - great feel to this song. Great to listen to in the car on long drives at night. I got the whole family in the car listening to it. They love it also.
@mgpvii LOL...there there...."Presence" is kinda obscure...alot of bad Karma around that album....Plant had a car accident etc....GREAT album...I remember it not being well received by true Zep fans back in the day....even me, initially...it definitely grows on you....
@Sweetjudiblueyes Hahah...thanks for the consolation. I was beginning to think I that maybe I wasn't the true Zep fan that I thought I was back in the day. I believe Presence had the only song were Robert Plant cursed - "I've got friends who will give me F*&K all" - must have been from the bad Karma as you mentioned.

But I want to make it clear, I still love Presence. I listen to it a lot. Especially the song Achilles Last Stand. One of the best songs Led Zeppelin ever made. One of the best songs ever made by a band! Presence is worth buying just for that song. But then the other songs are an extra bonus. Not too big on Royal Orleans though. And Candy Store Rock has some cool guitar but it's not my thing. But then Tea For One is awesome.
At first (fucking 100 years ago when I first heard this song) I liked the intro but that was about it. Now it's great from start to finish! Especially the guitar solo.

This song is very underated. Since everybody is talking about favirte Zeppelin songs here are a few. In the Light, Rain Song, Ten Years Gone, and in the evening are great underrated songs.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
These are all covers not Led Zepplin's own original music. Awesome none the less but The mighty Led Zep mostly did covers of the delta blues of the American South.
Count the albums and the individual songs within them and even a dullard like yourself should be able to work out that Zeppelin did not "mostly do covers". Simple maths really!!!
Having said all that, Presence might be my favorite album. It's sandwiched by two great experimental albums in Physical Graffiti & In Through the Outdoor plus it has Nobody's Fault but Mine, For your Life, and my favorite song ever, Achilles Last Stand.
Plus you can feel the emotion in any of their tracks from this album and when you consider the time frame they put this all together in, this might be one of the greatest albums in the history of rock, underrated though it certainly is.
Presence was definitely the wheelchair album. Zeppelin was going through so much shit when they recorded it.
Plant had just had his car crash and because of the time constraints on the studio (The Rolling Stones needed it to record Black & Blue (the poster for which hangs in my dorm next to my Zeppelin poster ironically)) they recorded the whole album in 2 1/2 weeks (17 days!). Fortunately, since they didnt tour for year after, little song exposure for Presence = no awful covers by others.
Although I believe Tea For One blows the dress off of Since I've Been Loving You, at least as far as the melancholy goes. They just kept getting better and better all the way up to Bonzo's horrible mistake.
This is not rewriting!!! Just another E-minor! Like I'm Gonna Crawl of In Through The Out Door! Thanks God they did those 3! Those showes Jimmy at his best, I mean his guitar playing doesn't get better then in these songs! Listen to his crying guitar, emotions just transferred in a perfect way!
Hey you have a funny name but defenetly great taste!:)
I think incredible is not enough to express the song. I love every second of it, but what Jimmy does in the solo?? I feel like Im in a different beautiful world, dreaming around, chills running up and down on my spine. I don't understand how a man can posess such a sole and talent as well!
Thanks so much posting it. I'm so glad I'm not the only one "feel this way". I would be only happier if I would find a live performance of it (by LZ).
Page and Plant did it live a couple of times with a Japanese classical band backing them up on Tokiyo in the mid 90's. It was amazing and there used to be a vid of it on Youtube but alas it is now gone..................
first time i heard it in a cover-version from "Joe Bonamassa" and it blew me away...i dont know that ZEP wrote it. Can anyone explain to me what he is singing?(Sorry for spelling)thx
Some fresh hippie lettuce or a good alcohol buzz & a nice surround sound system & it doesn`t get much better except for achilles last stand. I don`t understand Plant wanting to tour w/A.Krauss instead of Page & Jones.
first time I heard this on the radio, had to call the station and ask if it was Zep 'cause I don't recall it from any of their albums, and trust me, I have them all, kind of embarrising seeing that I am Zep if my all time fav band
RKR, it's off 'Presence', (the one after 'Physical Graffiti,) IMO a patchy and disappointing album relative to all its predecessors. It's got the amazing 'Achilles Last Stand' and the excellent 'Nobody's Fault But Mine'. But apart from those two, and this one, 'Presence' really doesn't cut the mustard.
Led zep II is their best. u can't help but bang ur head to every song. presence is more of an eastern influence and crap. straying too far from the heavy metal
i agree that led zep II is the more metal album (and i am a metal fan...) but presence was the wheelchair album and it brings more emotion to the songs and the lyrics are great, such as this song.
but they were also doing something different with their music in this album, which i really like.
plus if you listened to For Your Life live at O2 that was pretty heavy.
and wait, the final statement.......
ALS AND NFBM IS ON THAT ABLUM! How could you not love those songs! (but my fav is FYL...)
well, you obviously know what you're talking about, paintball guy. i suppose you should give me a lecture on how the rolling stones best song is satisfaction, or how the beatles are the best band ever? {sarcasm}

You slowed me down to a snails pace. You made
Me feel pain and anguish; I just turned around the

Fortunately, since they didnt tour for year after, little song exposure for Presence = no awful covers by others.

since i've been loving you is a better song then this one imo

Although I believe Tea For One blows the dress off of Since I've Been Loving You, at least as far as the melancholy goes. They just kept getting better and better all the way up to Bonzo's horrible mistake.

This was zeppelin's only attempt to rewrite one of their previous tunes. Since I've Been Loving You.
tardwhisperer 3 years ago

Every word you wrote is true... Yeah, they never performed it live in full... This is one of my biggest losses...

Page and Plant did it live a couple of times with a Japanese classical band backing them up on Tokiyo in the mid 90's. It was amazing and there used to be a vid of it on Youtube but alas it is now gone..................

do you have that video by any chance? Would die to see it!

first time i heard it in a cover-version from "Joe Bonamassa" and it blew me away...i dont know that ZEP wrote it. Can anyone explain to me what he is singing?(Sorry for spelling)thx
kleofaz 3 years ago
Actually the lyrics are pretty straight-forward. They're about loneliness and homesickness. Check out the lyrics on the Internet!

Some fresh hippie lettuce or a good alcohol buzz & a nice surround sound system & it doesn`t get much better except for achilles last stand. I don`t understand Plant wanting to tour w/A.Krauss instead of Page & Jones.

Very like a remake of 'Since I've been loving you'. Self-derivative but it means I like the song!

first time I heard this on the radio, had to call the station and ask if it was Zep 'cause I don't recall it from any of their albums, and trust me, I have them all, kind of embarrising seeing that I am Zep if my all time fav band
RKR1919 4 years ago
RKR, it's off 'Presence', (the one after 'Physical Graffiti,) IMO a patchy and disappointing album relative to all its predecessors. It's got the amazing 'Achilles Last Stand' and the excellent 'Nobody's Fault But Mine'. But apart from those two, and this one, 'Presence' really doesn't cut the mustard.
zxychesatz349 4 years ago
dude, what about For Your Life, Royal Orleans, Candy Store Rock? What about Hots On For Nowhere?
Presence is their best.
MiniJimmyBoy 3 years ago 2
It's hard to find a Zeppelin fan who recognizes that fact.
tardwhisperer 3 years ago
Led zep II is their best. u can't help but bang ur head to every song. presence is more of an eastern influence and crap. straying too far from the heavy metal
jb4427 3 years ago
i agree that led zep II is the more metal album (and i am a metal fan...) but presence was the wheelchair album and it brings more emotion to the songs and the lyrics are great, such as this song.
but they were also doing something different with their music in this album, which i really like.
plus if you listened to For Your Life live at O2 that was pretty heavy.
and wait, the final statement.......
ALS AND NFBM IS ON THAT ABLUM! How could you not love those songs! (but my fav is FYL...)

good point. but my favorite actually has to be houses of the holy. they got hard rock (The Ocean) acoustic(othfa) and even reggae (dyer maker)
jb4427 3 years ago
I think Led Zep IV is their best, followed by I and II.
paintballguy127 3 years ago
typical. lemme guess, ur favorite song is stairway?
jb4427 3 years ago
No, my fav's are Black Dog and When the Levee Breaks. While yes, Stairway's a good song, it's way overplayed.
paintballguy127 3 years ago
well, you obviously know what you're talking about, paintball guy. i suppose you should give me a lecture on how the rolling stones best song is satisfaction, or how the beatles are the best band ever? {sarcasm}
