This is the classic bag floating technique and has a number of problems such as step change in water conditions where you pour water into the bag (instead of drop-by-drop dilution in the ideal case) and requires constant supervision. I would not do it if I paid 200 plus dollars for a doughnut coral. Check out Doradon acclimation system for a more effective procedure.
earthling1984, could you make a video on how to get rid of aquarium algae if you ever get any? I'm trying to get rid of mine...You can make a video on how to prevent algae, that would help as well!
GREAT tank :) its nice to see someone caring about their salt water tanks (just started looking at all your videos)
btw do you have a (dachshund)AkA (Doxen)
But keep the work up i can not wait to see this tank flourish...I loved taking care of the tanks in Aquatic physics..><~ all the other kids never understood what cleaning and keeping the tank..just wanted a easy Senior class...in what turned out not to be lol..BUT Good luck :)
@earthling1984 aww..it sounds so much like my doxen..Must be the deep chest thing i suppose Good luck on the tank and hope your clowns take well to everything (they like to bite once they make it their home)
you shold get a dimonnd python im geting one i will make some vidios soon on my pets i have1lizard 11 leaf insects and 3 or 2 marsh frogs dimonds ar nice yelow and black
if i may, the method i use works great for me, i just use a toothpick or fork and puncture around 3-4 holes through the bag and let the bag float on top of my aquarium, slowly you can see the water from the bag and aquarium mixing, seems to work for me pretty good :)
@chunkylover817 it is a bad idea to add store water to your tank. But that probably would work in terms of acclimating the new fish, it would take a very long time to completely mix.
@MrBrianBusy no, you can't. For freshwater fish you may be able to get away with this, but with saltwater creatures, you really need to acclimate them to the water, not just the temperature.
Is it okay if you leave the bag of fish from the store inside your tank for some time before letting them in instead of doing this? (In order to get the temperature even)
@Aekiru yes, some people float the bag first to get the temperature even... i just open the bag and put in a very small amount of water and start the process. this will get the temperature acclimated the same way, and you are basically 'killing two birds with one stone' and saving time. Adding 1/8th water right away isn't going to change the bag temp very much at all, so it is fine to just start right away I would say.
@CBW0314 I've never heard of acclimating turtles, I think you are ok without acclimating them. I think the general rule is you need to acclimate anything that 'breathes' underwater. I'm not sure if corals/anemones/sponges breathe, but you get the point.
@fingerfreak yeah, the bastard at the end was like, look at me, hey im over here, hey you, im here, bark bark, im over here, film me damnit, look at me!
@fingerfreak I use Drs Foster & Smith puppy food, think it is chicken and rice or something. check out the drsfostersmith website, I like their products.

Could you poke pin holes in the bag and let the water from each diffuse?
maarakailet1 4 months ago
@maarakailet1 then you are mixing a lot of store water into your water. I wouldn't recommend this, nor do I know how long it would take.
earthling1984 4 months ago
@earthling1984 Aw, ok. I just thought that might me a slower ie. "gentler" way. But yeah, I guess if the store has disease ect. it would be bad.

Couldn't you just sit the bag in the tank for 20 minutes and be fine? It's fine for my fish, don't really know much about coral.
